Introduction route 112 runs from St Kilda/Victoria Docklands, through the City, and terminates at the corner of Gilbert Road and Regent Street in West Preston. A desire for an extension of Tram Route 112 has been an issue for the community for many years. Darebin City Council has advocated on the issue for decades.

A survey was undertaken to gauge community attitudes towards the extension of Tram Route 112 along Gilbert Rd and Edwardes St to Reservoir Station. The survey explored the frequency of intended , most important benefits of the project, willingness to replace car with tram travel and preferred form of public . This report summarises the findings from the survey.

Methodology The survey was distributed to 8200 households using Council’s delivery system with prepaid return options. The sample was drawn from GIS and delivered within a 800m boundary around the proposed route (Map appendix 1). The questionnaire had information about the proposal, 8 questions and a demographic section (Survey questionnaire appendix 2)

In total 1714 hard copy surveys were returned and a further 168 were completed on line. The total number of surveys completed was 1884 providing an unusually high response rate of 23%

3 Demographics

Age The analysis of the age groups of people participating in the survey shows that people aged under 35 are under represented people in the aged 46 and over are over represented. This survey was distributed to households and younger people are commonly under represented in surveys of this nature.

Which one of the following age groups do you belong to? No Percent under 18 18 1.0 18 - 35 years 339 18.6 36 - 45 years 355 19.5 46 - 60 years 452 24.8 61 - 75 years 380 20.9 76 years or more 275 15.1 Total 1819 100.0 Missing 65 1884

Disability The survey showed that roughly 16% of the respondents identified as having a disability. The 2003 Ageing Disability and Carers survey reveal that roughly 20% of the Darebin Population has some form of disability.

The understanding of “having a disability’ in this survey could mean a vast range of interpretations and poses some difficulty in portraying the respondents as a unique group. This must be kept in mind when the survey data is cross analysed with the groups of respondents who said that they had a disability. In short, the data includes analysis of the respondents loosely grouped around “having a disability’ but caution should be exercised in the interpretation of these results and trends that it may reveal.

Findings

Question 1: If the Tram 112 was extended along Gilbert Rd and Edwardes St to Reservoir Station, please indicate the benefits (if any) that it would bring to you personally.

The results show that the most valuable benefits include “more frequent ” and “closer public transport options” which was selected by three quarters of the respondents. However, “connection to Edwardes St shops”, “faster access to the city”, “connection to the train” and “better access to local shopping” were also selected by more than half of the respondents.

Analysis of the same set of responses, but broken down between respondents with and without Healthcare cards, over and under 60 years of age and by car ownership shows some differences.

• Respondents with Healthcare cards value the better access to health services the tram extension would bring.

• Respondents without a car particularly valued better access to health services and also valued more frequent public transport options and better access to local shops and Edwardes St shops.

• Respondents with disabilities and respondents aged over 60 particularly identified the benefit of having better access to health services .People with disabilities also identified the benefit of increased access to local services, to the city and to the train.

14 Question 2: If the project went ahead, do you think you would be more likely to catch the tram?

Two thirds (1182 respondents) said that they were much more likely to catch the tram if the project went ahead. Ninety percent were much more likely and more likely combined to catch the tram if the project went ahead.

The following analysis looks at the difference between different response groups and whether they were much more likely or more likely to use the tram if the project went ahead.

• Respondents without a car and those aged over 60 are much more likely to use the tram if the project went ahead. • Respondents with a disability showed a slightly higher likelihood of being much more likely to use the tram than respondents without a disability if the project went ahead.

- Encourage people to come to Edwardes Lake Park and use the facilities (Picnic/BBQ/ walking around lake). - People can use the tram if train is busy on peak hour. - Extension of tram would provide the safest transport option to city at night with no need to wait around at a . - For residents north of Regent St, the connecting bus service currently charges Zone 2 prices, whereas Reservoir Station (further - This is a long needed extension to the 112 Route. - Allow greater use of Edwardes Lake - What considerations have been given to those who prefer car transport? - Could this money not have been spent to seek a solution to the absolute disgraceful intersection @ Reservoir ? - How will reduced traffic flow down the top end o (Currently) only drive, have 3 young children. Make the change very quickly please. Love the idea. (Translation from possible Croation/Serbian text) 'Dear Sir/Madam, take the whole street. Very strong support for transport.' (Last line illegible) .As long as it doesn't increase rates .It will congest the street in Edwardes Street .It concerns me that Spring Street will receive more traffic due to drivers avoiding trams by changing route .It is of benefit to the elderly and disabled

24 > Very much needed to improve the tram network to northern part of the inner city as well as the train services. The stations looks like 18th century ones. > Reservoir still lacks the safety walking on the streets and introducing tram closer to Edwardes street and to the Reservoir train station helps. > More Senior Citizens in this area and would be beneficial for them to use tram service to Edwardes St shopping. 1) Would the proposed tram be 1 line or 2 lines in both directions? 2) How often would they run? 3) Would development of a tram line cause more in this area? 4) What would be the time frame to complete the project? 1. Consideration needs to be given to the effect on heavy vehicles accessing the light industry at the Western end of Edwardes St. 2. Stopping the tram at Henty St may be better and employing between Reservoir station, Henty St and North/West Reservoir. 1. Going down Henty and Spratling is ridiculous. 2. Tram should stay on Gilbert to the roundabout/T-intersection with Edwardes St at Lake. 3. Ideally, tram should stop at that point. It is sensible/logical end. 4. Going down Edwardes t is pointless as there is a bus connection right at the intersection(in both directions). 5. By having a bus and tram down Edwardes we'll end up having to justify both means of transport usage to make them worthwhile. 6. Tram down Edwardes would create too much unnecessary traffic congestion. 7. Ditto re Henty and Spratling. They are small/narrow suburban streets. Why create such congestion when Gilbert Rd is more than capable of handling tram logistics??? 1. Others will probably find it useful. Depends on location of home and personal circumstances. 2. But may cause traffic jams on Edwardes Rd which is narrow. 3. I live in North Reservoir. Find bus service within the area inadequate. Perhaps 1. Smaller buses (more economical) 2. Run later in the day 3. expensive - paying zone 2 fare even travelling within N. Reservoir (or have I been misinformed). 1. This proposal should have gone ahead many years ago! 2. Please consider extending the St Georges Rd tram along to Murray Rd - great access to Preston Market & shops! 1. This will be a disaster to the environment of Edwardes Park. 2. Edwardes St will become too busy, congested. 3. Very bad idea. 4. Small buses, more frequency is the way to go. 50 years overdue. 53 years ago we purchased a block Nocton St as we were told the tram was to continue up to the Lake. The centre of Gilbert Road was left unmade for the line to be put through I would like to see the tram appear before my parting. 55 years ago I was told the tram was going to the Lake in 6 months, still waiting. This proposal would be better but I won’t hold my breath. 64 years ago it would have been wonderful. I am concerned about the congestion in Reservoir Shopping Centre, especially with the semi's coming to and from Visy Board. A brilliant initiative and it will open up western reservoir to the main reservoir strip. I think this will provide an economic boost to the main reservoir strip around the station A great benefit for all who live along Gilbert Road near the Lake. A great idea A great idea for access to Reservoir West Primary, Edwardes Lake, industry in West Reservoir and creating a useful connection to Reservoir station. This proposal reminds me of the great idea of extending the old 42 tram line, to hub of Box Hill (109). A great idea. It should have continued to the lake when first built. A great benefit to our shopping precinct, creating more employment opportunities for all. A great opportunity to link the Reservoir activity centre to the lake A long overdue promise. I have waited now for 60 years for action not just talk. A tram for people elderly like me is so much more practical, not having to change from tram to bus to train. This is a very god proposal. It completes transport in the area in a sensible and commonsense manner. About ------time this project was implemented. I don't know who's ----- idea it was to end 112 tram route at Regent St when Reservoir Junction train station is so near About 50 years too late for me About time About time! About time! About time! It is a great idea except for those who live near Edwardes St. Connects Edwardes St to City. Great for the elderly in the area, school kids and the whole community. Also a

25 greener option than driving. About time! It will make access to schools etc easier and safer for the kids as they get bigger. PLEASE go ahead! About time! This should have occurred 100 years ago! About time!! About time!! About time, the quicker the better! According to the concept drawing it would only be one lane for cars, at top end of Edwardes St - would that make it congested? And also down Spratling St - would that also be congested - being a street - not a main road. Otherwise - very happy with the extension. Great work. Adds more value to my house After waiting 56 years for the tram extension, it would be most helpful, when we moved in, in 1954 the excavation was already done for the tram but some bright spark decided there are not enough houses in the area and they filled it in. Great future in sight. All for it. All too late as the roads are not wide enough - all cars would not be able to get out of their driveways. A lot of traffic comes from Hughes Pde to use Gilbert rd in the morning, this cannot be restricted as it will just create another bottleneck at the lake. Although considerably more costly, has any thought been given to an alternative extension route - turn left at Edwardes St (Gilbert Rd) and travel along Banbury Rd, Massey Av to Mahoneys Rd, where the East- West bus runs. Although I am filling out this survey both my (early 20s)children study in the city/where my husband works. This tram extension would impact on us as a family in many ways. We would all benefit from not having to use a car at all for city visits. I go into the city for training/shopping or for entertainment and would be far more likely to use this very convenient service. Although I mainly use my car, I believe strongly that it is an essential piece of public transport infrastructure that needs to be in place. Although personally it wouldn't effect me at this time - healthy enough to walk to train and tram when I use them, there are many older people near me who don't drive and have mentioned on a number of occasions the 'promised extension of the tram' which has so far not eventuated. So this would help immensely those people as well as young families. The other benefit is it would enable people to come by public transport out to Edwardes Lake. I would use tram to go to my new position at NMIT and so save fuel, better for the environment. This would probably be the case for many others. An amenity that is long overdue. An excellent idea. I look forward to the maiden voyage. Best Wishes! An extension is long overdue An extension to the Edwardes park , which would be less expensive, would also be most beneficial. Any extension to tram lines would provide us greater access to our community. This is a fantastic idea which I hope comes to fruition. Any improvements to public transport options are a positive outcome for all members of the community. About time - public transport extensions are decades overdue. Any proposition is only as good as its service. As a local resident of reservoir we would both love to see this proposal go ahead as it will greatly benefit both our lives and the local community. Please keep us informed of any further information. As a long term resident, my family and I wished this project went ahead years ago, as it would have been beneficial in our day to day lives. However we're glad that this survey has given us a chance to provide our feedback and opinion. We hope to see the tram route extended to Edwardes Street in the near future. Many thanks. As a parent it would be beneficial to have a tram closer than Regent Street. It would be great if the tram is extended. As a parent of two young children, this option would allow them easier access to public transport to travel to secondary school. It would also minimise reliance on cars to travel to work, and weekend activities, i.e. football at the MCG. I feel very frustrated that it's so difficult to get a car park at Reservoir station (this has made me drive instead of using public transport).

26 I am very excited about this proposal and wholeheartedly support it. As a person with a disability it would expand my community participation and provide me with a better quality of life. As a regular user of the 112 tram I would first like to see an ability to put more trams on this route in peak hour. Extending the tram service to Reservoir station would increase the number of passengers on a service that often can't pick up passengers from St. Georges Road/Brunswick Street because the trams are packed. But more importantly I would hate to see the wonderful character of Edwardes Street Village ruined by trams. Edwardes Street is already a very busy precinct with cars. Of higher priority would be fixing the High Street/Cheddar Road/Broadway intersection railway crossing. As a resident of 60 years in Regent St I would love to see a super stop As a resident of Reservoir, I do NOT believe that we need the tram line extended from Gilbert Road to Reservoir. There is an adequate bus service that can take passenger from Gilbert Road to Reservoir, which runs 7 days per week until 9pm each day... This is an increase in service levels than what there was a couple of years ago when this same argument cropped up. Do residents forget this? How many people are expected to use the extended tram line if it goes to Reservoir? Maybe a study needs to be undertaken to see. Will those whinging for the tram line extension actually use it?? From my experience, whingers never do. Gilbert Road to Reservoir shops / station is only a short drive and a nice walk... shouldn't we encourage more walking in the suburbs? If the tram extension does go ahead, what are residents going to whinge for next?? Will the want to tram to go to Epping, Northland or somewhere else? Overall, the public transport in Reservoir is pretty good. There are plans to increase services levels of the route 558 bus next year and that will make a huge difference too if that goes ahead. Also too, the Route 561 bus is also going extended towards Coburg, so giving people living on the Edwards Street side of Reservoir more travel option and to new areas they have not been able to get to before. I disagree with the comments in this weeks local paper (Wednesday 6th October) 'I think the people in this city have earnt it'-- comment by **********. How have people here earnt a tram line extension?? Am mentioned earlier, Reservoir has a good public transport system... If anything we need extended service levels to bus routes 549, 550 and 551, which service Northland, La Trobe and Ivanhoe. Maybe council could lobby for these services that would generate more patronage, as they are services in need. As a resident, it is already difficult and sometimes dangerous reversing out onto the street due to traffic. The proposal will only make this worse with the tram. I have no need for the tram extension as the bus serves this purpose well. Thankyou. As a student with a part time job, it would be closer to my home and so more efficient time management for me. GREAT IDEA! As a very frequent tram user, this extension would be extremely beneficial as it would not only lessen my walking time to the tram when going to the Northcote or the city, but also encourage me to use the shops at Edwardes St more regularly. From people in the area I have heard that this tram has been spoken about for a very long time but never delivered, it would mean to so much people in the area, especially the elderly. As above As an aging member of the community who may not drive in future years it is very important. It will also give greater access to Edwardes Lake parklands for people on the existing tram line. As an alternative or option the extension could be done firstly to Henty Street and when this is complete to Reservoir Station. It seems the Labor Govt simply doesn't know how to spend money wisely by Myki ticketing, colour rescheming for trams and trains, dismantle Docklands. As I get older my ability to drive longer distances from my home decreases. Also I am losing confidence driving as far as the city. Cost of petrol, parking ect are also a factor. I take into consideration when I support this proposal. I would not have to think about these as much when I consider taking the tram into the city. As I grow older (very few people grow younger :-) ), I foresee that this service will be a godsend. As I live between the end of the tram line and Edwardes Lake, the proposal would make travelling to the city much easier and also travelling by train, with the tram meeting up with the train in Reservoir. As I live in Edwardes St I strongly oppose tram tracks in Edwardes St. The tram should end at the top of Gilbert Rd (before the lake) and connect with existing bus service. The tram would

27 make traffic worse and increase noise levels. As it is, the trams are somewhat tardy. Extending the route 112 needs to be accompanied by more trams. As Reservoir has a large proportion of elderly citizens, having the tramline extended would decrease the walking distance for the tram for many of us. As someone who lives on Gilbert Road with sometimes extreme congestion, traffic noise and difficulty in egressing in my driveway, tram extension on an already narrow Gilbert Road does not seem feasible to me. As the bus services end at 9pm, it would be safer getting home late being less walking distance. As the North is such a growth area this should definitely occur so that more people can access public transport. It also provides a very different route to the current train route on the Epping line. As we are located in Reservoir near the lake- it is a long walk either tram or train I think we have needed this extension of the tram for some time. Good luck - time to make Martin Ferguson stand up! At the moment the traffic in the morning and evening makes it hard to get out of the driveways, will the tram help or make it harder to get out? I live about half way between Regent and the lake and it is hard to get out at these times. The bus line is useless, runs when it feels like it and pull up between stop across driveway etc. Maybe a small shuttle bus running down Spring and up Gilbert would be the answer of the other way. Bad Idea. The traffic near Edwardes St near the shops is already congested enough, where are the cars supposed to go?? Will those of us off Edwards St still be able to turn into our street? Not much room in Edwardes to place a tramline, we already have problems and only 1 car lane, how is this supposed to improve any of these issues? Does this mean those of us who live off Edwardes St will no longer be able to turn into our own street? Been in reservoir area since 1052 and never needed to use Gilbert Rd Tram, as not that side of rail line, have plenty of other transport to travel with ease. No family member used either but probably could help people living other side of train if needed. Progress may help them. Been waiting a long time for the connection to Reservoir Edwardes St shops I would frequent them more. Been waiting over 50 years for this extension. Good Luck! Been waiting years for this Before I was 6 years old this talk of tram extension has been going on. After eight years wait, I can not get on a tram or train anymore, no help at all on a tram, don't get time to sit down. So no no from me, give me the bus. Then how do we get to Preston market? Being a senior citizen, trams are much more accessible and seem safer than either buses or trains. We always use public transport when going to the city and usually drive to the tram stop to catch the tram. The new route would mean we can walk to the tram stop making life easier. Benefit for tram to go to Edwardes Lakes. Can't see a benefit in going along Henty St or Edwardes St, makes no sense at all, only causing more problems at peak hour. Better change bus zone on Gilbert Rd to zone 1/2 instead of zone 2 and increase the frequency. Both my husband and I have lived in Reservoir for over 41 years. During this time we have been wanting better access to public transport for years. I'm 73 years old and like many other locals don't drive and would find this tram extension very useful especially city hospital visits/appt. I'm sure the younger residents would also find it most beneficial for everyday commuting. I.e. school and work. Four years ago I collected over 2000 signatures in a petition for this very cause which shows the strong support from the locals. I only hope that this comes to fruition and I have the opportunity of using it. Thank you. Brilliant idea - this would change things for us immeasurably, leaving us much less isolated (we live near Edwardes Lake). Brilliant plan. This will make Edwardes Lake more accessible. It would bring more customers to Edwardes Street shopping and would be excellent for local business. Bring it on! By this service we can save our time and money and can get more easy access to public transport. Can council please update the route112 page on the Council website showing PDF files of Plans to show us residents how it will be made.

28 Can't see where there would be room for a tram line in Edwardes Street as it is now. Closing off a lane would be too much traffic it is sad enough this proposal is not of benefit to our street/road. As this would cause more teenagers to be out at late at night which causes drunken behaviour, it is bad enough now. There is buses already going from Regent Street to Reservoir Station, TRAM IS NOT NEEDED! WE OPPOSE TO THIS!. Comments made throughout survey! - Ensure tram remains part of Zone 1! - More likely to catch, especially if there were train delays and trams were more frequent. Concern about traffic congestion during peak & non-peak hours Congratulations it's a great idea and we are looking forward to become a reality. Consideration would need to be made re the Spring St, Edwardes St and rail crossing intersection. This proposal would compound an already impossible vehicle/pedestrian intersection. Considering this area is much more densely populated now, i.e. units ( several) on an ordinary house block we are desperate for better public transport. I full support the extension of the tram track to train station , we need more trams going east to west across the city. Continuing the tram line down the remainder of Gilbert Road will only increase traffic congestion further. Installing a tram line down Edwardes Street will only make a greater traffic problem - less on street parking and the current parking will not be sufficient. We have a bus service that is efficient and well used. What will happen to this service? Currently I am unable to turn into my street or park outside my home due to others parking in and around my street (Crompton St)-nightmare. I feel that this tram will cause more chaos and people will park their cars around these areas to tram it into town. How about permit/ or zone parking so we can get in and out of our drive ways and park outside our homes? Speed humps to stop hoons tearing through our streets. Currently I only use the car for shopping. With the tram I will be able to get to Edwardes St shops without the car. Great idea, make it happen! Currently I walk 15 min to catch the tram and 20 min to catch the train. I could, realistically, sell my car and purely use public transport. No matter the weather, I could be far more into public transport as its convenience would be up ten times. Currently myself and my wife have to walk from the end of the line to our home. When my wife is working late I fear for her safety. This will very much improve! Great idea! Currently on mat leave with baby and pram - would find it difficult to get on tram with pram, but if with my husband going along to a cafe or something would use it. Visitors from interstate to our house could also use it. Disability - have a son with muscular dystrophy and in a wheelchair Do it ASAP! DO IT! Do not support the tramline extension at the expense of the car lane. Car used for convenience and time saving - no benefit in losing car lane for unreliable timetables. Doesn't really effect me as I live on the other side of the Reservoir station Don't catch buses so tram would be good. Don't know why it wasn't done years ago!! Drive the No 112 and No 86 trams, don't really want to travel on a tram when off duty. Could effect motor cycle parking in Edwardes St. Easier to get to my job. Better to get connected for when I go out with friends and family. Edwardes Street is already congested enough due to traffic coming to a standstill when trains arrive at station due to crossing of passengers and not much time for cars to turn and also due to traffic coming to a stand still at rail crossing- the congestion would be worse for cars, local shoppers, local traders. Edwardes St has already been stuffed up enough with bicycle lanes and central medians. Adding tram tracks to this mess will virtually make the street impassable for cars. I would have no use what so ever for a tram on Edwardes St. The concept drawing is misleading as it only shows the wide end of Edwardes St, where the shops are. The residential area of Edwardes St is to narrow for 2 sets of tram tracks, the street surface will get cut up like the lower end of Gilbert Rd is now, and there will be massive disruption to traffic while this line is being built add to this the noise factor of a tram line up Edwardes St. To me the Reservoir train station is all the public transport I need. Edwardes St is already is heavily congested area with limited car park spaces. The tram

29 proposed adds no value or benefit to the area because we have a train at the top of Edwardes St and buses which run continuously down and up Edwardes St. There is plenty and sufficient transport options for this street. Edwardes St is already TOO busy and dangerous for pedestrians. I firmly believe an extension of tram services to Edwardes St would be valuable, but along Edwardes St I have serious doubts about. Edwardes St is far to narrow to have a tram running thru it. Edwardes St is not wide enough for the traffic it has. Henty St may be a better option. Edwardes St not suitable. Will cause traffic problems. Entirely logical that the tram should terminate at an activity centre/train station. EVEN IF THE TRAM COULD TERMINATE AT EDWARDS LAKE, IT WOULD BE VERY BENEFICIAL TO PEOPLE IT SEEMS TO ME THAT THE GOVERNMENT WOULD BE MORE LIKELY TO APPROVE THIS OPTION Everyone is talking about this project for a very long time, but nothing has happened, so we hope this project will eventually be completed to every citizen of this area. Extend the route along Banbury Rd Massey Ave to end at Mahoneys Rd would be great. Thankyou. Extending route 112 tram along Gilbert Rd and Edwardes St to Reservoir Railway station would be very beneficial. Extending to the lake would be fine, but down Edward St would cause too much traffic problems. Edwardes St is cluttered enough as it is. Fairly amazing! It is REALLY a perfect plan! Great! Fantastic - can't wait. Please make them pram friendly tram stops. 'FANTASTIC' about time a proposal is being looked at. Fantastic for our local community. It will connect Regent and Reservoir and will be a great boon to the environment due to reduction in car use. Great for people who are older or experience ambulatory problems. Fantastic idea look forward to the extension it will help a lot. Fantastic!! Far city Feasibility studies are guesses about the future. No more costly feasibility studies. Just do it! First, Edwardes St it to narrow to accommodate the tram, second, people catching the tram in Edwardes St to the city they are better off to catch a train which would be there faster. I would strongly agree to extend it to Henty ST, that's ok. Firstly it will be a great relief for parents who drive their children to school, especially in traffic times. They will all benefit from this proposal. Secondly, people will feel safer if transport was closely available to them. Thirdly, I used to pick up my daughter from Regent tram stop and most days questioned WHY that was the last stop and stupidly wasn't extended to Edwardes Lake where we live around the corner. THIS IS THE BEST EXTENSION PROPOSED EVER! For me to access maternal & child health services at Regent, I must either time my departure to catch the 553 bus (which is only every 30 minutes), or I walk the 20 minutes. For me to access my local mothers group meetings, I must either: (a) catch the bus from View Street to Regent>get on the tram and disembark at Cramer Street or (b) I must walk the whole distance which is 40 minutes. Option (a) is not so helpful as I have to get on and off a bus and on and off a tram with a pram! Thus I walk 40 minutes each way once a week. As the 553 bus is only every 30 minutes, it rarely happens that there is a bus just about ready to depart when the 112 tram terminates at Regent. If you would like to travel with children, having closer access to the tram would be so helpful. The 553 bus route is OK but at every 30 minutes only it does reduce your options and/or extend your journey time needlessly. We might often catch the bus to the Reservoir shopping area, but then end up having to walk back as it's faster than waiting for the next bus. Walking everywhere is fine, don't get me wrong, but if you've got a 2yo, being able to jump on the tram instead of waiting for a bus would be marvellous. There are many young children living south of Edwardes Lake who would probably get out and about more on the tram as it provides a smoother, faster connection to activities around Melbourne. For the life of me I do not understand why the extension is not already in place? It is a yes for all the community and better education opportunities. From where I am situated it is hard for me to use public transport. Because I'm 1 km from the

30 train station and 1km from tram station. Give me more direct connection to the city. Currently I have to drive to train station to do so. With a tram close to my home it will greatly benefit me in the range I can travel for job seeking and education. Please have the extension labelled Zone 1 Go for it! Good for elderly people Good idea, I have a business address in the Reservoir Shopping Centre. I think it will help a lot of people get to see me. I applauded investment in the infrastructure. What about the large trucks that use Edwardes St? Good luck Good luck and God Bless. Keep up the great work you're doing for the community. Good luck! I’ve been writing now for about 55 years for this to happen. Good to see this back on the agenda at last - considering some people have been waiting since the 1930's for the extension to happen !?! It would help make Reservoir more accessible and 'cosmopolitan'. It is ridiculous to have to walk 20-30 minutes home if one catches a tram in Brunswick St. It would also benefit visitors to Edwardes Lake, etc. Great concept that would improve access and transport options around Regent village, as well as likely to encourage positive development in the area with shops/cafes/restaurants. great idea Great idea Great idea ... about b***** time!! Great idea and given the increase in the units and townhouse development in the area this resulting in more people transportation improvements is a must - tram ext. would compliment and maximise the infrastructure use. Great idea as now if having to catch it need to drive to Regent St first and find parking. If tram was extended could walk to the tram then catch, way more convenient. Great idea to link various stopping hubs by various means. We are very fortunate to have a visionary leading in the City of Darebin with Mr Fontana! Great idea! Go ahead and get it done! Great idea, easier to catch the tram - I feel a safer form of transport as it would be closer to my home as I find it difficult to walk long distances. Great idea for the elderly and people of all ages. Great idea, hope you succeed. great idea, makes sense to extend the tram and make the connection with the station Great idea. Have been wanting this for a long time. Excited by proposal! Great Idea. Should have happened years ago. Great initiative! Great initiative. Well done! The shopping strip will get more business and will encourage a better range of shops b/c of more foot traffic Great proposal. Would definitely benefit the community. Greater public transport access to Edwardes Lake for festival and sporting, e.g. 'Little' and 'big' athletics would be great for teenagers and young people without cars. Increasing access to local shops for elderly people and people with disabilities within Reservoir is a great benefit. Increasing independence for young people and reducing the number of 'Mum's taxi' trips great for environment and mum's sanity. Have a daughter starting high school in 2012 and the extension to the tram line would be very beneficial, it would also help the elderly get to shops, medical appoints, faster and easier. Have a lot of Doctors appointments in Victoria Parade City and forced to use car to get to Gilbert Road. Bought first house in Epstien Street in November 1959 and was told that soon the tram from Gilbert Road will finish at Reservoir Station. It has now been 51 years. Have been waiting for it for 40 years. Just do it! Have been waiting for tram extension for approx. 60 years. Have been wanting this for 60 years. Have two pensioners and one Melbourne Uni student at this address and have filled in for all of al. Other pensioner is a 73yo male on blind pension. Having 4 children due to start high school in the northern suburbs over the next few years, this extension would enable them to access high school easily and more independently.

31 Having lived here for 40 years, this proposal should have been put forward years ago. We are pensioners and our main shopping is at Reservoir. Whether it be for medical, personal or other it would be a great advantage to have the tram route extended. Having turned 86 I don't expect to be driving much longer and will need to rely on public transport more. I come to live in Gilbert Road over 60 years ago and was told the tram was to be extended up to the Lake. Sadly that didn't happen. When the road was made the centre was left to accommodate trams. Help to keep the car at home most of the time Here we go again. I am fifty two years old whenever there is another election we cop the same b***s*** that never happens (THE GILBERT ROAD TRAM EXTENSION) Hope it actually goes ahead. Hope this goes ahead! Hopefully after 30 to 40 years of promising to extend tram line it will finally be done. It's about time and Preston/Reservoir residents need this to be done. Hopefully this will go ahead as I have been living in Reservoir for 30 years and there was always talk but no action. Personally I think it would be beneficial to the area. How about a slightly different route - to end of Gilbert Rd - at the lake - and then up Edwardes St to Reservoir Station. How is it going to work along Edwardes Street being so narrow and busy with shopping precinct and parking. How much traffic jams would be caused along Edwardes St. It would be a disaster at the intersection of Spring and Edwardes St How on earth is the infrastructure going to cope with the dramatic change. How is a tram going to travel up such narrow streets. How is Edwardes St going to cope with limited vehicle access and bicycle lane changes. Maybe we should be looking at the Reservoir station intersection of High St/Spring St/Edwardes/Broadway. That intersection has been a problem for many years and no solution yet. How will traffic congestion along that part of Gilbert rd be alleviated? What traffic management will be put in place? I do not want the tram stop right in from of my house- how do I avoid this happening ? I am pensioner and having people in front of my house drinking and yelling and swearing would be very frightening and my worst nightmare. How will the landscape change and look like? How would the traffic change along the proposed path? Will there be 2 trams (i.e.: 2 way) down Spratling Street? Will the parking situation change down Spratling Street? Especially during footie season? I already catch a train to work everyday, so my car use wouldn't change. Having an option to catch a tram to work would be great, more so when something goes wrong with the trains. I am a ex serviceman and lived in the area for 58 years our street is off Gilbert Rd and at my age I find it draining to walk to Regent St. I am not thinking of myself at this time. I may not be around to see this proposal but thinking of the next generation. Thankyou. I am a pensioner this will help me when I am unable to use my car. (Respondent has disabled daughter) - 'This extension will help her get to Thomastown easier'. I am concerned about the parking and the amount of traffic along the proposed route. Traffic along Gilbert Rd and Edwardes St is a growing problem during peak hours. This causes issues Best and Leamington Sts. Parking on Gilbert and Henty St would also be issue. I am elderly and do not use public transport, but I feel the tram extension would be a good idea and beneficial to many people. I am extremely happy for a proposed project! I am handicapped now and can't get on a tram, but remember when I could. An excellent idea. Anything that aids communication, especially suburban, is constructive ... little ones (kids as I remember) love trams. But, being practical, it is a good idea. Go for it! I am housebound due to ill health. The tram extension is a good idea. I am in favour of extending the tram line along Gilbert Road to Henty Street as Gilbert Road is wide enough to take the traffic. Edwardes Street is not wide enough and at present has one parking lane and one car lane each way and at times is congested. If you cut out the parking lane the shops will suffer. The pretty concept picture cuts the widest part of Edwardes Street down to one lane shared by cars and bicycles I note and a further few yards west the street narrows. I have lived in Edwardes Street for 63 years and the tram project has been mooted even longer than that. GILBERT ROAD - YES EDWARDES STREET - NO

32 I am normally a bike rider but sometimes use public transport. If the tram line met at Reservoir Station this could be extremely beneficial to me and my family, especially the teenagers in the family who don't drive. I am strongly in favour of the extension of the 112 tram service along Edwardes St. I am a resident of Edwardes Street, and currently walk from Best Street to Reservoir Station every day to commute to work by train from Reservoir Station. The extension of the tram to Edwardes Street would give me faster and more convenient access to Reservoir Station, and also a second transport option to the city via the 112 route which, where it currently terminates, is too far for me to walk. I am strongly in favour of the proposed extension for a number of reasons. I manage a property that houses young people aged between 18 to 25 years. The property is located between Edwardes and Henty Streets, a 5 minute walk from Gilbert Road. We often have to drive the young men to the station or West Preston tram stop so they can get to Tafe and some of their appointments on time. If the tram was extended they would be able to regain some of their lost independence. Further I would find it extremely beneficial as I reside in the city of Phillip, and would not be able to catch the tram directly to and from work. This is an area that is growing economically and changing in terms of it's dynamics. It would be foolish not completing such a beneficial project for this growing community. I am strongly in favour of this extension, because it is about time that Reservoir got some attention, as we feel it has long been neglected, especially in regards to mobility and public transport options. Numerous other tram lines in Melbourne have been extended over the years, and it is only fair that Route 112 follows suit. Our population has increased markedly, both younger and elderly. Buses are scarce and inconvenient, and this would be great in helping to ease some of the overcrowding on trains. For a long time, already from Reservoir it is impossible to find a seat on the train during busy peak time. Many of our residents work in the CBD every day. It is not right that residents living in Bundoora and the outer Easter suburbs such as Mont Albert should be the only ones to have more public transport options. We really would love to see something really useful like this project being done with our money that we pay to the government and council. Rates in Darebin are amongst the dearest, so we deserve some reward. It will also provide a much needed economic boost, as our homes would increase in value dramatically, just because of a tram line!! It's a great thing for Darebin, a great thing for Melbourne and a great thing for our people!!! I am strongly in favour of this project. This has been talked about for the last 40 years. Let's make it happen! I am strongly in favour of this proposal and believe it would be extremely beneficial to all of the community! I am unable to see benefit of tram line in Edwardes St. It is very difficult to find parking for shopping now - If tram line in it would decrease the amount of people to shop in Edwardes Street and banking facilities in service road - Spring Street. I am very excited about this project; I would be more inclined to use the tram in the evenings as I feel safer on the tram at night compared to a train. It would be more convenient to get to locations such as Brunswick, Fitzroy (cafe precinct), St Vincent's hospital and Ear & Eye hospital outpatient appointments. Access to the terminus, i.e. St Kilda beach, would be more accessible. Will definitely make leaving the car at home easier. Thank you! I am very strongly in favour of this proposal, it will make my life easier and comfortable for a lot of people. Personally, it will benefit my children travelling to school. I hope it will happen and in the very near future. I and my local fellow public transport users are very excited about this new proposal. It will also be useful to the visitors who stay at the local Melbourne Tourist Park (Elizabeth Street Coburg) and future residents of the redevelopment of the Kodak factory site. I approached the Council approximately 23 years ago, when we moved to Edwardes Park area to ascertain feasibility of extending the tram line. At that stage, the Council was unable to commit to the advocacy of the extension. We use the tram daily/weekly to attend school and work and social occasions. We walk 1.5 km from home and often think of a tram route extension as being a great social conduct. Friends who live along the existing tram route use the tram regularly and comment on the capacity of the tram to move many people in good time and the social connectedness it embodies. I congratulate the Council on being proactive and feel confident that Council will argue vigorously on behalf of their ratepayers. I believe extending the tram route 112 would be very beneficial to all young students and the elderly alike. I feel much safer travelling on trams than trains.

33 I believe in this proposal as it will be more beneficial to those that do not have access to a private car. I believe it would be a good idea. It would benefit a lot of different aged people and it is much safer to travel on a tram. And bring you closer to your destination. Well done council, you have a tick from me. I believe that extending 112 tram route should have been done many years ago. It would be very beneficial for me and for my mum. I really hope the proposal goes ahead in the sometime future I believe that the extension further than Henty street would cause more traffic congestion. Edwards St in itself is not a wide street and neither is Spratling St. As there is no indication of any street widening to accommodate the trams how would this directly affect residents with parking and access to their properties?? Would the tram line affect any access to surrounding streets?? These are questions that need to be clearly answered before any agreement done by myself and my family. I believe the proposal is a necessary way to build infrastructure in Reservoir/West Preston area. The current 'last stop means we have to walk 15 minutes to catch the tram - a real deterrent. The population in our area is increasing, bus routes are completely infrequent and impractical. The tram is safe and reliable and my preferred form of transport. We will not have to drive as much and commenting into the city will become much easier for my whole family/household. A brilliant idea!. I believe this is a great idea and can't wait to have better access to trams. I believe this project is well over due. I have and many others would greatly benefit as well as the Edwardes lake will attract more visit for family days and bring a greater contribution to Reservoir Resident even the Northern parts of Melbourne to have easy access to the city to become a part of Melbourne Community and again employment opportunity in the city and most parts of Melbourne. I believe this would also add a greater sense of security to late night commuters. Will this lower my chances of being assaulted? I believe trams are much safer when travelling at night. Trams are more reliable than trains. I hardly ever go into the city in the evenings or at weekends as it's too much hassle getting these and back on the train so the extension would be fantastic. I believe there are benefits in extending the route along Gilbert Rd to terminate at Edwardes Lake intersection of Edwardes St, but oppose the tram travelling along Edwardes St and termination at Reservoir station. I think the proposal would ruin the shopping centre precinct. If the tram is to extend beyond Gilbert Rd, I would prefer a route West then North, to travel along Radford Rd to cater for the lack of public transport in that area. The tram could terminate at Mayoneys Rd or even extend to the NW Epping Growth corridor. I cannot believe that it has not been built yet. Very much overdue. How can anyone have a problem with a tram line that gives you better access to shops, train station, and a beautiful park. I commute by train every day and it takes over an hour. I am told that the tram is much quicker, but by someone who lives closer to the Regent St end than I am (I am further north). I currently do not catch the train as I work out of hours and do not feel safe. So I drive, and pay for parking. I hate to do so but I can't justify being hassled on the train. I have always wished there was another option and tis would be perfect. Tram travel is much safer than the train. I currently drive my car to regent St-park it-then catch the tram. I did not gave a great benefit any more. I was living in View St before, now on the other side of Chaleyer St. I am taking the 86 from Plenty Road, but my bank is still in Spring St and my chemist in Gilbert Rd and View St. I would like to see it extend, where so many people live there, especially elderly. I will have the chance to get up to Edwardes Lake, after my shopping and still waiting that they open a shop with some food and drinks. I do not drive, and there are no connections for me to get to the trains or tram currently without walking for 1km. This is terrible for me in the heat and in the cold. I am legally blind and I feel unsafe having to cross all the side streets to get to public transport which takes me to the city. I also like the idea of being able to get onto the tram and enjoy Edwardes lake park and have a walk and a bbq with my family. Currently it is difficult for me to get there. I want to feel a part of the community but the current transport options in this area do not provide this. I do not see any benefit at all building a tram along Edwardes Street. The main train station is right around the corner. Why waste money and create noise for residents?!

34 I do not think there is an adequate cost/benefit and there already exists adequate transport coverage in the area. I do prefer trams - but I have trouble getting on & off with my walker or crutches; unable to walk that distance. The bus is often jammed tight with walkers or crutches or walking sticks. Old people are not catered for. At least the entrance is easier to get on and off. 60 years are the trams were promised to be done but never went ahead. I do wonder how it will affect traffic and parking along both Gilbert Road and Edwardes St. I don't agree with the proposal to extend the tram up Edwardes St. I agree with the tram terminating at Henty St. The houses along Spratling St and Edwardes St would lose their parking outside their homes. I don't know why the tram suddenly ends at Regent Street. The road is still the same width all the way up to Henty Street. The tram extension would benefit so many people. I don't think it will ever happen as they have been talking about it for over 70 years and as yet nothing has happened. I don't think you would be able to put a double line in either Gilbert Road or Edwardes Street as they are too narrow with cars parked on the side. I have been waiting over 70 years and don't think I will see it happen in my time. I don't use bus I take the car instead. I don't use public transport currently, I would use it on Edwardes St tram now and again. and my child would use it daily, Do it!!! I don't use this tram line regularly as I drive to work in Heidelberg. However I catch the tram to the city once or twice a month. I would appreciate a stop closer to my house than now at Regent Street. I have never seen a bus link up to trams at terminals when I get off there. I dreamed about it since 1955, as a resident of Reservoir. I feel strongly for the 112 tram line to be extended as proposed for following reasons 1. to Edwardes Lake for families using public transport. 2. Access to Reservoir/Edwardes St/Broadway shopping centres. 3. Access to Reservoir train station I feel that this would be a great addition to the northern region, making the city more accessible for residence in the Reservoir area. I feel this is an obvious and over due extension to P/T in this area That will greatly benefit the are insofar as providing greater access to P/T and flow through of people for business on the line. I have been a rate payer for 59 years and this is just rubbish. I have been catching the tram for the last twelve years and am very much in favour of an extension. It would also give local residents more frequent access to local shopping as the local bus runs infrequently (every half hour). I have been desperate for this to happen, I work shift work and getting home late evening (9- 10pm) means now I will be able to get off the tram and only a short walk to my home. (Currently 20-30 minute walk from drop off point.) So I will feel safer using the tram instead of car and it will be cheaper on petrol and so I am excited this could be happening. I have been in Preston area for over 70 years and when I returned to live in West Preston, and there was a lot of land past Murray road not built on, there had been efforts to get the tram line extended past Regent Street. They have a bus service that perhaps could be improved. There were not the cars around years ago when it would have been of more use. Edwardes St- Too narrow. I have been living in Reservoir for 40 years and my husband lived all his life here and he told me ever since I have know him that they have been talk about extending the line down to the lake long before I knew him so I hope they do something soon. I have been living in reservoir since 1959, I would like to see some improvement. I have been living in the area for 57 years. When we built our home here we were promised the tram up Gilbert Road. Originally they left the centre road unmade to accommodate the tram. I have been reading comments of aged local residents in Leader newspaper. This proposal has been discussed for decades and would be most welcome if it eventuates. Bus options on weekends are quite dismal. I have been told this has been on the cards for 10 years. The bus service is crap. Please go ahead with the extension asap. Thankyou. I have been waiting 50 years for this I have been waiting 56 years for the tram. I have lived in Bia Ora Rd Reservoir for 60 years, would like to see the tram up to Edwardes St.

35 Thankyou. I have lived in Henty St for over fifty-five years, and the residents have been crying for a tram to Henty St all that time. Most of the older residents have passed away or left the area, excuse me my disillusionment. I think a tram to Reservoir would be a great step forward. I have lived in Reservoir for 33 years and this idea has been suggested and nothing done about it, hoping something can be done about it. I have lived in Reservoir for 35 years, when we purchased our property, I was told that the tram line would be extended to Edwardes St, and 35 Years later we are waiting. Do we still have to wait? I have lived in Reservoir for many years and have often felt that a tram link between Reservoir station and Gilbert Rd was ESSENTIAL. I am fed-up with this being DISCUSSED and can ensure the council that this is an issue which will determine my vote, and that of my family's, at future local elections. I have lived in Reservoir my whole life it would be the best thing that the council has ever done other than fixing the lake. I have lived in the area for many years and always believed that the original intention was for the Gilbert Rd tram line to be extended to connect with the Reservoir station. It just seems to be common sense to me. I have lived in this area all my life, this extension of the tram line has been talked about for many years. It would be beneficial to many residents should it go ahead. I have no option to use 553 bus - tram would be great - no getting o a bus to get tram to city or Hospital. Will tram to Edwardes St happen in my day? I doubt it. I have no reason to use the tram, however, I believe the extension should go ahead at least to Edwardes Lake. I'd be interested to know if it were possible the tram could be extended into Northwest Reservoir towards Mahoneys Road and whether the public would be better served by this. I have two young children and use a double stroller when we go out. The only way we could use the tram service would be if platforms stops and the newer, lower trams were provided. I have wished for this extension and would be thrilled to see it go ahead. I have young children at home who will eventually get to high school. The tram extension will also be extremely beneficial to them as they would only have to use one form of public transport only. I hope that this is not another no action election promise! It has been promised for the past 40 years, and never built. If the government & Planners are serious about the extension & its obvious benefits, it would go ahead and complete the missing link. This would benefit our growing populations need for efficient infrastructure. The extension is the missing link to connect the northern corridor to the CBD, Docklands, Southbank & St Kilda, Botanic Gardens, etc. It is good for tourism, & access to education & heath/hospital services. It will reduce the number of cars congesting our inner city roads. Increase use of public transport. Improve business in the above mentioned locations, as well as local business in Reservoir & Preston. The extension is vital for the commercial success of not only the Local Community & Businesses, but also new developments where a lot of public & private money is being spent. Namely the CBD, Docklands, Southbank, St Kilda, Epping, Preston Market, etc etc. In summary, this small tram extension, is a giant leap in need for all Melbourne travellers (including tourists & people with movement disabilities) and a benefit for most Melbournians. For the 'short sighted', it’s a small extension. For those with 'extended vision' into Melbourne’s needs, it’s a highly efficient & focused use of tax payer’s money, due simply to the tram extensions far reaching effects. Just go ahead and build it!!!!!!!!!!!!! I hope this goes ahead, it would be very good for Reservoir. I hope this project goes ahead, as we find very hard to rely on public transport living in Reservoir. Buses do not run often and are not reliable. I hope this proposal doesn't get thrown in the rubbish like all the same past proposals in the previous 70 years. This should become a swinging electorate for anything to get off the ground especially this tram extension, been a safe labour seat means nothing when nothing gets done of any substance in the electorate. I just feel it is a safer option to catch the tram, and they are much more reliable. Perhaps there could be some space available for car parking. (for those that need to drive to get there, or even off street parking) I just think it's great. My family lives at Gilbert rd and I always have to catch train and then walk

36 20 mins to get there (I live in Reservoir). Tram would be great! I kept the map. The only way to get to CLINIC 279 by public transport from Ruthven/Reservoir (279 Gilbert Rd). I know at my age now I will not live to see the extension happen as it has been talked about since the 1950's when young people started moving into Reservoir. When the tram line was extended a very short distance from one side of Regent St to the other (where it now finishes) it was supposed to continue further along Gilbert Rd then but it didn't. All it did was kill the thriving shopping centre that was there at the time as people could no longer park near the shops. I like the idea of tram access to Edwardes Street shop but tram stop/terminal at Edwardes St may cause traffic chaos for motorists in that area. I live close enough to Regent St/Gilbert Rd that this makes little difference for city bound travel. I might use the tram to get to Edwards St shops - I currently drive to Preston Markets. I live in Carrington Road, I would love to catch the tram to the station, as I hate leaving my car at the station and it is too far and dangerous to walk home from the station. I live in Vale St reservoir and only short walk to tram. I live near current terminus. I think extension is a good idea, however, I think extension/better public transport is long overdue for people living in the vicinity of Banbury Rd/Massey Ave. I live near the current terminus at Regent St. I would still catch the tram there. I can however see the benefit of at least taking it to Edwardes street. This has been in the pipeline as long as I can remember, extending it to Reservoir station would give people greater opportunity to use public transport. I live on Spratling St - not too keen on tram running past my house - noise level, however would be overall beneficial and I would use the service. I often catch bus in Leamington St to Reservoir Station or shopping, as I am a mile and 1/4 in the old from station and shops. Extend of Tram would be very helpful from city to Reservoir Lake. After bus leaves top of Edwardes St, on way home and down Leamington ST, I often catch it outside Bowling Club to go to Regent St, to catch to city in the afternoon. I am in favour of extension of TRAM. I often frequent Brunswick/Smith St, so it would save me having to catch more than one mode of public transport. I only wish this had been determined years ago it would have been beneficial to all concerned. Thank you. I personally think that I would be of great benefit to the suburb. Excellent to see that it offers a connection to Reservoir station. It also marks the where Zone 1 ends and Zone 2 begins. Excellent access to Edward street shops, potentially making the suburb a lot more attractive in the future, should shops renovate on Edward Street. Connection to the Edwards Lake which could result in future business opportunities. I personally would probably not need to use it, but I am all in favour of public transport - not everyone has car or can afford a car and we need to respect that. Furthermore, I want the option of being able to use it too, if I wish to do so. I personally like the idea of extending the tram line. This also helps my son to travel [to the] city. I predict it won't go ahead in near future: A. Costly B. Benefits too few C. Safe seat D. Common sense will not prevail I remember the attempt to have the tram track extended back in the 1960's. Unfortunately even though the concept was good and the Council appeared to agree and had the kerbing and two strips of road surface prepared adjacent to the left and right kerbs leaving and area in the centre of the road unmade and just waiting for tram tracks to be laid, however this didn't occur and the Council were required after a considerable amount of time to complete the construction of the unmade surface. My main concern at that time was that the proposal as I understood it was to have the tram track terminated at the intersection of Gilbert Rd and Edwardes St and I thought it may have caused congestion. Congratulations to the Council and to those responsible for the preparation of this excellent proposal of the extension that has so many pluses that you would think approval from those who control the purse strings would be forthcoming. The problem I see is that there is only six tram stops between Regent St and the terminus located at the corner of Edwardes St/Spring St to pick up or drop off passengers, hope our financial and engineering staff at the Darebin Council is able to convince the Federal/State governments and transport Group involved; that the message contained in this

37 proposal is far more important than any discussion that may be raising relating to say the limited that would be raised in such a short distance. GOOD LUCK - YES I AGREE WITH THE PROPOSAL. I strongly urge you to consider the proposal. My partner and I are planning to start a family very soon and access to a tram as a means of transport to the local shops and for other things is highly appealing to me and to most others in the community as a safer travel option. I support the tram going up Gilbert RD. I think it is then ridiculous to take the tram up to Reservoir station. The tram should run through Edwards Lake Park and onto Banbury Rd and then north into North Reservoir. Alternatively, the tram should run up Mc Fadzean Ave to Hughes Pde. In the future, it could even cross the ring road and go up Edgars Rd. Again, I repeat that taking the tram to reservoir station is a waste of transport money. I take that exact route to the train station everyday, the works to the roads involved would cause nothing but problems for me . Reservoir station is extremely busy as is. The station would be more frustrating and busy than it already is. No benefit whatsoever! I think an extension of the high street tram to Reservoir Station would be more beneficial for business. I think it benefits individuals and the local community as a whole. It would allow residents along Gilbert Road to access the Edwardes St shops more easily and frequently. I currently work in Collins St, city and it would be an extremely viable alternative to catch the tram to work rather than the train (there is currently a 30 minute walk to the tram). It is also a great transport option for younger people who like to socialise in the North Fitzroy/Fitzroy area. I am very much in favour of this proposal, both personally and for the West Preston/Regent/Reservoir communities. I think it is a brilliant proposal to link the residents living between West Preston and Reservoir and making travel by tram a more viable option. I think it is a good plan I think it is a great idea and a lot of reservoir locals would be using this service. I think it is a great idea! Been waiting for the extension for years. I think it is an excellent idea that would give me and my family greater access to other suburbs in the Northern area. I think it is fantastic and allows the residents of the north/western area greater access to the northern/western areas of Melbourne. Why can't there be an East/West tram route along Bell St connection tram routes 86, 112, 2 & 19? I think it will be a real benefit to Reservoir as a suburb. I will shop there with no more car, and be able to go to the city. My partner will catch the tram every day, while now he only does if the weather is warm because it is still a good walk away. I think it will give people more choices to GET OUT whether it is to socialise, work, or to shop. You can go to Edwardes lake and adjoining parks without taking your car or you can go right into the city stopping at any other suburbs(especially Preston) for the market and tafe. As I become older I will probably imagine that I would use it more to get out and socialise and feel safe using the tram. I am close to the train but I don't feel safe in the train. Good luck and I look forward to the start of the tram extension I think it would be a fantastic step forward for the transport system and a lot of residents would use the extended service. I think it would be a great improvement to the area. I think it would be a much safer option for young people travelling home late at night. I think trams are much safer to travel on these days and nights. I think it would be fabulous, give a greater option to those not close to the tram or train station. I hope it goes ahead. I think it would be of great assistance to many people who return home from work late at night. I think it would be very good for the local people to be able to catch a tram through to the city, and also catch a tram to the shops in Edwardes St and Broadway and the train station. I think it would cause more congestion along Gilbert Road which has already had lanes taken away by those stupid things in the middle of the road which serve no purpose. I think it’s a fantastic idea for people to get to the shops and the station. I do live on the other side of Broadway. I think it's a great idea. I live half way up Edwardes St and I would use it to get to the station and the city & Brunswick St. I really hope it goes ahead. Viva la tram!!

38 I think it’s a wonderful plan and really hope it goes ahead. I am often loaded up with shopping and have to walk with it from Regent or wait for bus after coming from city, sometimes you just miss a bus and its cold or a wet day. I've seen parents waiting for school children, it would also cut down use of their cars because a lot live off Gilbert Road turning at the top end - so yes I am all in favour of it going ahead. I think that if the proposal went ahead it would be extremely beneficial for all the community. This proposal has been in the agenda for many years. Can the government finally stop playing politics and finally put this proposal forward that would benefit all the community. I think that the idea of extending the tram line is a very good idea. It will help to children to get home quicker and safer. Because at the moment children have to walk home the rest of the way from Regent St. I think that the proposal is many years overdue. Great idea, it will make access to the tram closer for my daughter to travel to school. I think that this proposal is a very god one as it is beneficial for students, workers and the general public. Frankly, it is long overdue and we look forward to its completion. My family and I will benefit from this immensely. I think that's a wonderful thought to extend the tramline. I am strongly in favour of this. I think the extension of the 112 route tram to reservoir station would be very beneficial, provide more revenue therefore patronage of the tram route and would provide a easily accessible link to train services on the Epping line (i.e. reservoir station), great idea. Should have been done many years earlier!! P.S. Only slight drawback certain bus services might need to be compensated for lack of patronage. P.S.2 Great move 'Please go ahead with the idea'. I think the extra tram line will cause more traffic issues in that area which is already congested and with so many problems to this area concerning traffic it would be even more chaotic. I think the project is not really beneficial or essential & only waste tax payer money I think the proposal is an excellent idea - however there should be more information provided such as what are the plans for Edwardes Street shops? - One way, pedestrian mall, street parking etc??? I think the proposal will make Edwardes St more congested. Not much changes to my lifestyle/need. I think the proposed tram extension is a truly brilliant idea. Reservoir is a fast changing community, with elderly and young families a tram would make shopping for our elderly and access to the lake and surrounding park land easier. Faster access to universities and the northern Hospital. The only thing that could make the connection to the railway station walk be past the station underground. I think the proposal of a tram route up until the end of Edwardes Street is a great idea and it may even encourage more people to take the tram rather than drive to Reservoir village. I think the tram extension is a great idea, it makes it more beneficial and gives you more options in travel. It is a great idea, well done. I think the tram going to Edwardes Lake would be good. But NOT along Edwardes St as the traffic on Edwardes St is congested enough. I think the tram should go along Gilbert Road and finish at the Lake' not the other routes and finish at the station. I think the tram would be great I could go out more often and feel safer than the trains. I think this is a great proposal. I have never used the bus connection at Regent street even though it would reduce my walk home because bus and tram connection can be quite time consuming. It would be very handy to stay on the tram, and run a few errands up at Edwardes street before continuing my journey home. When going into the city, I usually catch the train because it's a quicker walk, but if the tram were closer (as it will be under this proposal) I would definitely catch the tram because of the regularity of trams. I prefer to catch trams because they seem less crowded and I don't need to use the Journey Planner because they are so regular. I think this proposal is a fantastic idea. I think this proposed tram extension is not only logical (as it uses already existing space along Edwardes St) but necessary for Reservoir as it is fast becoming a suburb of young residents and families. Plus the elderly residents would need to use the tram. I used to live in Preston West, where the tram started, and I noticed a lot of older citizens using the tram for church, hospital in city etc. I also used the Regent St bus once - the bus times were so infrequent and sporadic (not to mention rare), I gave up!

39 I think this should have been done years ago. I prefer catching the tram opposed to trains which are always delayed. Great also for me if I'm in town and can’t drive, I can catch a tram and be home safely. This project also puts more value on our homes too!. I think this tram is a very good idea. Would be very helpful. I think this would be a great help to folk in this area whom either have small children or for the elderly. I think this would be a great idea, it create greater accessibility to train and Edwardes street shops, it will also bring more people to the area who are wishing to be close to public transport and therefore more prosperity to the area for me and my children. I think this would be an incredibly beneficial move to improve the Reservoir community. I value the bus service from Regent Street to Edwards Street, but it is not a regular enough service for me to rely on. I depend on meeting a connecting bus at Reservoir Railway Station to get to and from work at La Trobe University, so a tram into Reservoir would be fantastic. The bus is far too irregular. I think it would also improve the aesthetic feel of Edwards Street, which is too congested with traffic. It would be a good thing if the presence of a tram could encourage traffic away from Edwards Street. I think this would be great for access to city and work, great fro school options for our family. I think this would also greatly enhance the shopping precinct on Edwardes Street. I think this would be very beneficial for a lot of people in the area. I personally feel much safer in a tram than a train . As the district is becoming more populated the transport system needs to cater for the increase and provide more efficient public transport , we need to lessen the amount of cars on road. I thought the extension was just to go to the end of Gilbert rd, either end at Henty St on the lake. I do not think it practical to go along Spratling St and Edwardes St the buses fit in well with the traffic there. It would be very beneficial to have the tram to the end of Gilbert Rd for more people to enjoy the lovely lake. I travel by train to Melbourne Uni with my 2 year old daughter who attends childcare in the city. I'm not sure that the tram going to the Reservoir shops is the best option. Why not have it reaching a catchment further west where there is currently no train or tram. Trams are too slow and I need to get on with a pram in peak hour, on a double concession card. I use my car to get to Regent St and get the tram to work in St Vincent Private Hospital 5 days a week. This extension is of great value to me and my family 100% I was a tram driver in the 50-60's and even then they were talking to extend the service and now I think is about b***** time I was born in 1927 at ** York Street Preston 3072. The tram was our only transport. My father built the house which still stands and you may be interested to know this fight for a tram in Gilbert Road was also going on then and that is a long time again when Edwardes Lake held boat races and the rowing club was on the other side. We walked there to see it all happen I would be thrilled to see a Road tram extension right around the fight about the extension was supposed to be between the tramways and council I think?. I was very excited when I found this questionnaire in my letterbox. Every time I drive down Gilbert Road to Regent Street, I think how much easier life would be with the extension of the tram line. It would link up with buses and trains at Reservoir Station/community shopping hub of Edwardes Street/Broadway. Therefore an easy connection onto university and out to the northern suburbs. It would be wonderful for the community. I wish the proposal will come true I work in the city and often need another form of transport other then the train when the train is delayed / cancelled or too full. The tram extension would enable me to have the option of just getting on the tram and getting straight to the city & getting home. I also have family & friends in Fitzroy that don't drive so they would be able to visit Reservoir without relying on myself to drive them. The addition of the tram extension would see Reservoir more marketable with property Sales & Rentals. I would be seriously concerned about traffic congestion in Reservoir village adding to the existing problems with High St/ Spring St rail crossing I would discontinue driving to work and catch the tram on a regular basis. I work shift work and don't catch the train as I feel it is not safe when I finish work at 11pm. I would feel much better catching the tram at night. I would feel more comfortable using public transport at night if the tram line was extended. I would feel more included in community with tram line passing by my street. I would feel much

40 better about letting my child catch the tram to school which would give me much more flexibility in the type of employment I can get. I would feel safe on a tram I would feel safer travelling on a tram than other forms of public transport. I would like this project to go ahead as soon as possible that it is very convenient to catch the tram to go shopping and also to the city. Kind Regards. I would like this project to start as quickly as possible. I would like to have a train stop at Edwardes street because it is easier to walk. I would like to see the tram finish at Henty St. I would like to see the tram line to extend all the way to Edwardes Lake. I don't necessarily think it needs to go all the way to Reservoir station. I think the extension would be a great advantage to Reservoir Residents. I would like to see the tram route continue down to the end of Gilbert Rd and Edward St I would like your proposal of extending the tram route 112 along Gilbert Rd to go ahead very much, as it would offer lots of benefits to my whole family. I would not be in favour of the extension if it adversely affected the parking on Edward's St. I would only agree to the tram line being extended to the end of Gilbert rd (at 7 Eleven). - Traffic along Edwardes St would be a nightmare with a tram line. How do you propose to even fit tram tracks here anyway? - This is clearly a design set to fail. It is the intention of the Council to receive an overall negative response to the survey in order for the project not to go ahead. I would prefer that the route was changed so that it did not travel along Henty & Spratling Streets I would prefer the tram extended along Gilbert Rd, Edwardes St, Banbury Rd, Massey Ave and Hughes Pde with terminus at Mahoneys Rd OR along Gilbert Rd, Edwardes St, Best St, Mc Fadzean Ave and Hughes Pde with the terminus at Mahoneys Rd. PS - some or part of the above routes were planned circa 1922 when the Merrilands was subdivided so I strongly recommend the above routes. I would really like the proposal to go through. I would see this as an extremely positive development for the area and community I would still require the 553 Bus along Henty St. I, ********* *************, think this is a great idea, it will make it easier for my parents that have no car. Easy for them to come to my house. They live in Regent Street, I live in Edwardes Street. I'd like to see the extension start in the near future, without delay. If current proposal is not viable second option could be to bring tram at least to Henty Street If it went to Edwards Lake it would be more beneficial to residents along that route. If it went along Edwardes St, it would cause more of a traffic jam than normal. If not approved, maybe just an extension to the corner of Henty St and Gilbert Rd only If project is only partially done I believe the extension to the lake would be great and beneficial. If the 112 tram line is extended it will make it a lot easier for me to travel by public transport since I use a walker to get around. Sometimes I get tired and I find it hard to walk long distances. If the tram went as far as Henty St, for me that would bring people to the Lake and football fields. If this new Proposal goes ahead, my family and I will be using the extended 112 Tram Route exclusively, every day, to go to work in the City and to go shopping in Reservoir. In order to get to work, I need to drive my car to the West Preston Tram Stop, park the car in a side street, walk to the tram stop, and board a tram into the City. In the same side street that I park my car each morning, I observe many other office-goers also parking their cars, walking to the same West Preston Tram Stop, and a City-bound tram. The Proposal to extend the 112 Tram Route will allow Reservoir residents to walk to new Proposed Tram Stops, located closer to home, and eliminate the need to drive to and occupy residential side streets with parked cars in order to reach the inconveniently-positioned West Preston Tram Stop. Additionally, at the end of every work day, when every West Preston-bound tram reaches its final stop (at the corner of Regent Street and Gilbert Road), countless passengers must deboard the tram and continue walking along Gilbert Road in order to get home. The Proposal

41 to extend the 112 Tram Route will also solve the problem of people having to deboard the tram at the last West Preston Tram Stop, and continue walking very long distances the rest of the way home. Having the 112 Tram Route terminate at West Preston is highly inconvenient, poorly-planned, not well-located, and not easily within reach. The 112 Tram Route is in desperate need of an extension, and has been for DECADES. If this proposal is to go ahead more trams are required to accommodate the increase in volume of passengers during the peak periods. Also suggest using the larger trams during peak periods because the smaller trams fill up prior to hitting St. Georges Rd currently. If too narrow to run the 112 tram line on Edwardes street, at least extend to the end of Gilbert Road where 7/11 is. That will be very helpful for people who live near by. Thanks. If tram route 112 extension is approved I would almost eliminate the use of my car, therefore won't contribute to the traffic & help environment. We urgently need this approved due to the population increase in the area. A service like this would be greatly beneficial to the area. We have an election coming up soon & should make use of the opportunity to get this proposal through and vote for the appropriate party that will approve this. If tram was extended up to Edwards St, would mean elderly citizens could have more freedom of tram travel and not need the bus, which would make a 'Huge' difference in our community (and environment). If you miss a bus at Regent Street after tram stopping, it could be 1/2 an hour wait. If you miss on Saturday or Sunday, could be 1 hour wait. Less travel time would be a result. Either you work more overtime or you get more leisure time at home. I'll be very excited if this proposal is approved. I'm 83, don't drive and need to catch 2 buses just to get to my wife's nursing home near Edwardes St. This would help me greatly, as I do this trip twice a day. I've been living in Reservoir since 1974 and we're been told about this project - endlessly. All my friends my age have almost given up - but it would help us so much to have some REAL transport finally. I have to rely on my daughter to drive me just to the bank - if it's raining - waiting for 2 buses isn't easy. This way it would be perfect - 1 trip and I'm in Edwardes St. I'm in favour of the tram extension, think it's a great idea. Not sure how much room there is for the tram to travel down Henty and Edwardes Street though! Love it though. Please do it! Even if the tram stops at Henty Street, we need it. I'm not sure if this has already been mentioned but can you keep the zones the same because I've seen some people buying Zone 1 & 2 I'm starting high school and this idea will help me to get to school faster and will be much easier. I'm very pleased this being considered at long last. I drive to Coburg everyday to catch the tram. I have some residential concerns about traffic flow mainly along Edwardes St as it seems narrower than Gilbert Rd. I personally prefer to catch a tram to work and home each day as they are safer than trains especially in the evenings when you arrive at dark stations. The tram also seem to come more frequently even though they take twice as long to get back to Regent St. A suggestion: given the 40 mins tram ride from Collins St to Regent St could be a express tram be considered for a leg of the journey? eg. Brunswick St or St Georges rd or indeed just a shuttle service that runs backwards and forwards b/w certain points this could reduce the trip length for people who like me travel from the city to terminus and have to endure every stop all the way home - very tiring. Also sufficient car parking is necessary as the stations in area have limited parking possibly consider a . Important that there is more access to public transport for everyone. My job is in Essendon, so public transport is not a practical option. Improve quality of transport in area. Improve suburb. In 1951 when we purchased our block of land in Reservoir, one of the reasons was that the Gilbert Rd tram would soon be extended to Edwardes Lake. In an area of aging population, easy access to Reservoir shops and services by tram is a much a safer and more convenient option than having to use buses. In my opinion this is a great proposal. All the residents in The City of Darebin will benefit from this project. Just do it. Thanks. In my opinion tram 112 extensions from Gilbert Rd to Edwardes St is long overdue. In my opinion we don't need a tram in Gilbert rd. I believe the buses are adequate. 'In my opinion, the last bit of extension to Reservoir is not good, because we will get two transport options from one point only. It would be better to make a left hand turn at Edwardes

42 Lake Park and a final stop at the end (near Visy Board) because then you service a business district, see my red lines' (respondent has indicated new route on survey map) 'and spread the options or left into Henty and then right into Newlands Road.' In the 70's and 80's they were thinking of extending the tram line to Henty Street. It was a good thing but it never happened. This is a good thing, if it happens, O.K. Instead of Edwardes St which is already too congested - Henty St would be a more suitable route. Instead of introducing a new mode of transport, why not unify the current zone 1 (reservoir train stn) with the proposed route and abolish the need for a two zone ticketing system? The current bus service works well with the exception of the 'disconnect' between zone 1 and 2 ticketing from Regent St and anything north there of. 'RE-ENGINEER' NOT 'RE-INVENT' Is the proposal for Reservoir Transport? It appears to me it is more practical for the tram to turn right into Regent St and stop at Spring St as first preference. Or west of the train line, either within walking distance of Regent Station. It can only be beneficial to the whole community, so why not! It can't happen too soon - waiting since 1937. It could cause traffic congestion in Edwardes St and parking problems near shops. It has been suggested many times before but probably won't happen as usual IT IS A FANTASIT IDEA - PLEASE PROCEED WITH IT It is a good idea to extend the tram line to the end of Gilbert road but, not to Edwardes Street because there is always heavy traffic on that stretch of road. It is a great idea and benefit for the community. It is a great idea and should be introduced for the benefit of the general public. The project has been talked about for years with the government lacking initiative to proceed. It is about time something was done for pensioners, to get to Northern Hospital. It is an excellent idea to extend the tram line. It would bring public transport closer to where I live and would make other suburbs of Melbourne more accessible. You might want to improve street lighting too as it is frightening to have to walk home in the dark after getting off either trains or trams. It is essential that this proposal go ahead. For one, it will increase the safety of people - especially women, travelling alone and after dark. And secondly, it’s just not contemporary to be living this close to the city and still have to walk 1/2 an hour to the closest train station and 1 hour to the closest tram stop!!! It is great for the old and young mums. It is long overdue. It is much needed and don't know why it can't go all the way!. It is also much safer than a train carriage or station. It is such a good idea. I hope it goes ahead. It is very good to see this project finally getting the recognition it deserves. Well done! It makes sense to extend it, the residents of Reservoir have missed out for a long time on this. It seems like a waste of tax payer’s money and would be a large hassle to drivers on Gilbert rd and Edwardes St. Instead the council could make the intersection next to Reservoir station safer as there are frequent car accidents there and pedestrians being hit by cars. Also the traffic light on the intersection between High St and Cheddar Rd makes driver wait for up to 10- 15 minutes. It should have been done a long time ago It should have been done years ago. Also it would benefit all the school kids who catch the tram from Regent St. It was a promise broken years ago. It will allow the elderly to engage more in the community without having to change modes of transport. Travelling evening and Sundays (no bus) will be safer. It will be fantastic It will be helpful in access to some areas along the proposed route It will cause major difficulties and inconvenience when driving out of my driveway. It is already difficult and dangerous now as it is. There will be too much noise. It will cause insecurity due to increased number of people on and off tram who are maybe drunk, drugged or unfavourable people in our street. It is already difficult to sleep at night with the traffic and it will be even

43 more levels of noise. It will cause pedestrian accidents. The money could better used in fixing Reservoir station intersection. If the bus frequency is not enough in busy hours, add more busses. It will create less pollution. It will help a lot of aged persons. It will benefit the whole community. It will make us use the tram more often It will provide better access and a direct route to Edwardes Lake. It would add to infrastructure which in turn would/could increase property prices and in turn that might bring in a more desirable group of residents e.g. as happened in Clifton Hill/Northcote It would allow me to catch the tram more early to get to the city for work or to the train station. The current bus route is too far to walk to. It would be a miracle if it goes ahead, we have waited forever for this to go ahead. It would be an excellent extension; in fact it would change my quality of life dramatically by giving me, my husband and son access to work and education opportunities that are currently only accessible by a combination of car and, occasionally, train. Reducing car use is a major desire for me and my family, and if the 112 tram went to Reservoir station that would happen. It would be better if the tram was to go straight down Gilbert Rd to the lake and then onto Edwardes St instead of going down Spratling Street. It would provide greater access to residents on Banbury Rd and also from the west of Edwardes St. It would be convenient and very helpful. Thankyou It would be fantastic, we have been waiting 40 years! I walked 1 hour for four years just to catch the tram so I could go to work. It would be fantastic. Would prefer trams over trains every time. As I'm getting older I think trams are a lot safer than trains, plus more direct to where you want to go. It would be good infrastructure/ town planning. I most definitely support it as it makes the vastly unopened north of Melbourne a step closer to 'easy access'. It would be good to see 'Reservoir' on a tram service - make it feel closer to city. It would be great for house prices for those who live on the north end of Gilbert (not me) It would be great to access local businesses and it will bring customers to businesses. I would catch the tram to work everyday if the new tramline went ahead! 'Great Idea!' It would be more beneficial for the tram line to meet up with Plenty road. And more trains/trams running across the city to connect existing trains and trams. It would be much less stressful than driving the car and trying to find a park in the city when attending medical appointments. It would be one of the greatest things to happen in Reservoir. It is long overdue. It would be really beneficial because everybody will get one more option with train service. As metro is not as reliable as compare to past, new tram project seems that would be really successful. It would be so much easier for the community if the tram came to Reservoir Station. It would be very helpful and help us being older residents, in my view it will help us all. It would create more traffic It would give the public another option to the CBD should the Epping trains suffer disruption. Any improvement to public transport is a benefit to all. It would give us more convenience to go to the city, especially on weekends. It would improve public transport in West Reservoir and easier to move around - a long time overdue It would improve traffic flow through Regent/Gilbert intersections because trams would not be backed up waiting to access the single line at last stop of the terminus It would make more sense to go up Banbury Road and along to Keon Park Station Via Mahoneys Road. Edwardes Street and Reservoir Station are already far too congested. It would mean a lot to our family. It takes approx 15 minutes to walk to tram stop. My teenage children use the trams frequently but the bus rarely connects. It adds 30 minutes to the trip. The new tram extension would save us time and we would use it even more. A great idea. It would offer more options to residents living between Edwards St Banbury Rd/Massey Ave, Mahoney's Rd and Radford Rd where not many public transport options exist (apart from an unreliable (zone 2) bus service. It would waste money and cause more traffic snarls. It wouldn't benefit us much as we drive and live close to Edwardes St anyway, but I'm sure

44 others living along Gilbert Rd and Edwardes St would use the tram to access Reservoir Village, Broadway shops and the station. It's a fantastic idea that would greatly benefit the community. Please go ahead. You have the community's support. It's a good project It's a great idea! I wish you go on with the project Thankyou. It's a long time coming, it was promised years ago It's about time a Labor Gov't started looking after an area that has been strong supporter of it's party at the poles!! Its about time it happened It's about time live just moved in and thought it was going ahead already. It's about time route 112 gets extended. It's about time this issue was looked at again. It's about time! You have been talking about this for too many years. This should go ahead and we need to move with the times and increasing population of the area. This would also encourage more people to use this service, which is better for the environment also! It’s about time!! It's about time!! Please do it for the commuters of Reservoir and surroundings! It's about time!! Will help my ageing parents who live nearby also, more peace of mind for me & closer for my son to access high school. It’s about time. This development will also bring life back to Edwardes St and local business It's about time. We've waited a long time for this. It’s been a long time coming. Please do it It's been a long time coming. So bring it on now. It's most welcomed by many people. It's hard enough to in and out of my drive way because of the traffic, trams will be a night mare. Make it harder- Much Harder. It's important for the elderly to have better access to shopping at Reservoir. It's long overdue. I have been waiting for 46 years. It's pure stupidity you don't know how to spend money on much more beneficial project It's really strange that the Gilbert tram 112 stops at Regent St. It should stop at a railway station, i.e. Reservoir station, to allow people the opportunity to catch the train to Epping/city. This extension is a gateway for travellers travelling. It also connects Gilbert Rd to Reservoir station to get to Epping hospital and medical facilities. I'm really happy that Darebin Council listens/supports its residents and is finally taking resident's feedback and making great changes. It’s the perfect 'end' or 'start' point for a tram line. The current end or start point is ridiculous. Also, the last thing the residents of this area need is more bus pollutants at street level, trams are the preferred option. Cheers. It's very convenient to me because I'm an old person, to catch the tram close to my place to go shopping. Hope this project is finalised as soon as possible. Kind Regards. I've heard from people who have lived her longer than me that this idea has been around for decades. I think it would be great for elderly people and these like myself who can't afford a car to have a more convenient tram service. Just do it!! Just that it's been a long time coming. Just to get it going, everything is better than our train service. Life will be much easier with better transport facilities Link between train and tram will mean less use of cars & buses on the road & also open up the opportunity for those less able and elderly to be more independent. Live on Gilbert Road. Would create more noise and traffic/parking in street rules. Living just off Edwardes St the tram line extension would be of no great benefit to me, nevertheless it is a great idea and would give me an option of using the tram to get to Carlton/St Kilda even. I'm in strong favour of this going ahead. Long long overdue - action would be great Long overdue Long overdue

45 Long overdue! Long overdue! Long overdue! Long time coming. Many promises but no action Looking forward to having more choice for shopping. Love the idea of having the tram extending along Gilbert Rd. This will help the next generation children, to school, work ect....Strongly in favour. Make it happen as soon as possible. Dream come true! Many people living in and around Reservoir would have a safer way to travel than by train, and Reservoir would receive positive attention. Many residents have been waiting for years for the trams down Gilbert Road and Edwardes Street to be extended. We need it very much. I have to walk too far to get to the shops in Edwardes Street, and it would help me so much to get into the city, as I live off Henty Street Reservoir. Congratulations councils if you do it! May sound good but Edward St is not wide enough, also main road for Visyboard trucks Medical appoints in the city More beneficial to the environment long term. More car parking facilities would need to be considered, if haven't already. Bring back short trip tickets, so new proposal doesn't get abused. More for employees to get to work in or out of Reservoir. More public transport much better for a whole community. More public transport less cars on the road then less pollution. More tram travellers less cars on the road and busses less pollution! Most favourable for the proposal. Most of my friends live in reservoir and they don't go out because walking long distances of 80 and 90 is no fun. We don't like taking taxis. We do not feel safe being old and only travelling short trips we are made to feel guilty ( not by all drivers) but at least half. We were promised this tram line for over 50 years no it would be wonderful for older people and young mums with children. Much easier to get to health services, doctor, hospital and relatives and friends. I am very much in favour of the project. Much easier to my children to get to high school. Easier to get to train station and Edward St. Shops. Would make sense. Much easier to stay on tram rather than changing tram to bus. Buses only run every half hour and trams would be more frequent and run later and more at evening and weekends than buses. Would open up area to more public transport users from all over Melbourne area rather isolated presently. Much more convenient access to all amenities, reduce traffic (car) congestion. MUST BE CAR PARKING NO PARKING AT REGENT ST TERMINUS WHICH IS A TURN OFF. MUST GO AHEAD! My daughter and I have recently moved into the area. She is using this line and is extremely impressed. Both she and I work at St Vincent’s, and the extension would benefit us greatly. My family purchase home in Henty St 40 years ago with the idea of this tram route proposal to benefit transport options to us. It is long overdue and greatly needed. We would no longer need to drive and park our cars at the train station or at the Regent St tram stop. Thank you. My family would benefit greatly with the extension! My daughters will use public transport to go into the city as they approach their teenage years. My father bought this block of land in the 1920's he was told then we would have the tram in Mc Fadzean Ave and a town hall. T. M. Bourke was the rogue who sold it to him. My main interest is in easier access to Edwards Lake but I also have friends in Reservoir near the station. I don't have a car but live in easy walk to the tram line. Preston station is a bit further and, because of the trains' frequency, I tend to my friends. I also walk to the lake park because the tram only goes a few stops and then it is still a bit of a walk. The exercise of walking is good, but limits my mobility with the weather and what I can carry when visiting or to use the park e.g. for picnics. Also, I feel safer travelling on the train in the evenings, rather than walking. My main issue is the proposed route. Why in the world would you turn the tram right into Henty

46 and then left into Spratling? This is bureaucratic stupidity. It should run directly down to the bottom of Gilbert Road and turn left at Edwardes Street!!!!!!!!!! My most common form of short commuting is bicycle. I do use the 112 tram perhaps several times a month to go to the city. If the tram line extension were to mean less cars on the road, I am supportive of it. My older neighbours advise that a plan to extend the tramline has been talked about for 30+ years. Currently, for me to access the tram, it is easiest for me to walk 20 minutes down to Regent Street, as the 553 bus service only operates every 30 minutes. Although this walk is manageable, it does somewhat reduce the number of trips I might make on the tram as I travel with a small child who must be taken in a pram as they cannot walk that distance at pace. He is more than capable of walking to Gilbert Road at pace so we would more easily be able to jump on the tram for more regular outings to the Melbourne Museum/NGV Kids Corner etc. I will soon be returning to full-time work in the city and my options are either: timing my departure to go by bus to Reservoir Station to catch a train OR walking 20 minutes to get the tram. Both of these options will extend my commute to the city significantly, particularly on the return journey when the 553 bus runs infrequently in the evening. I'm also unsure of the cost implication of catching the bus (Zone 1 or Zone 2?). South of Edwardes Lake and between Regent Street is a bit of a dead zone as far as transport is concerned. My one concern is the provision of adequate parking in the Edwardes St Reservoir vicinity, particularly for disabled/aged persons. Walking a distance to the shops for those who drive would act as a deterrent and people would shop elsewhere. My only concern is how would this affect traffic flow through Edwardes Street as at the moment it can become a bottle neck especially at peak hour. My only concern would be the congestion it will cause on Edwardes Street. My Partner has not got a care, and walks to Coburg or reservoir shopping centres everyday as there is only two buses in morning and two in the afternoon 4 30 pm. He has to stay in Coburg all day or walk home, he has disability and by the tram stopping at Edward's lake he would only be around the corner from home. My wife and I regularly catch the 112 tram. However, as the nearest tram stop (Edwards/Regent Sts terminus) is some distance from our home we drive our car to the tram and park it in the residential streets close to the stop. If the 112 line was extended we would catch the tram more frequently without the need to use our car. Also, if the tram line was extended to Reservoir railway station this would allow us to take public transport to local shops (e.g. Preston Markets/Epping Plaza) rather than driving our car. As such, we strongly endorse the 112 extension. Myself, my partner, my friends and other locals I have spoken with about the proposal are all in favour of the tram line extension. The connection to Edwardes lake, Reservoir shops and station would be hugely beneficial to the area, for the community and business. A fantastic idea!. nil no No more excuses, just go ahead and complete the inevitable at today's costs. This is an essential investment for all travellers including tourists. A considerable amount of public and private money has been spent on projects in Southbank, Docklands and the city. This extension will benefit the financial viability of these projects as well as Reservoir, Regent, Preston, Epping, St Kilda, etc. No, it all sound great if the proposal goes ahead. Noisy - if this proposal went ahead, dual glass windows should be offered to households affected free of charge. None. Normally I support any improvement in public transport. Edwardes St is so crowed with car traffic that I can't see a tram in the middle of the road being beneficial. As a local resident I am forced to drive on Edwardes St almost daily to gain safe access to High Street so making it a mall with no cars, which I suspect will happen is very inconvenient. Be careful how you proceed with this, it could be more inconvenient than convenient for local residents. Not before time. Not having to use taxis Now that train stations are unmanned and there is no guard in the last carriage, trams and buses are the preferred options of women travellers. Cameras are no comfort - a human

47 driver is - and one that's accessible. Trams are great and Reservoir is growing. All my older neighbours are gone and there are 4 or 5 units replacing their old house. More people more travellers. Of more benefit to those travelling on the tram system but a welcomed option if no trains are running due to unforseen problems. One concern is the increased traffic congestion which will result from trams taking up middle lanes all the way down Gilbert Road. I currently Live close to the corner of Gilbert road, I am concerned about the noise pollution caused by trams as they pass our street. I would only consider supporting this scheme if at the same time there was some effort and money put in to cleaning up and improving the Reservoir Village/Broadway shopping precinct, which is currently substandard compared to other precincts around Melbourne which are similar distances from the city. One of the most important benefits would be access to the city and education, especially for our son who once completes high school would need less dependence on us to get to any form of higher education he may choose to do. Only that I'm surprised it wasn't done years ago. Thank you. Our household is strongly in favour of this proposal, as it would be a great opportunity for us to leave the car at home to travel to work. We drive at the moment because the last tram stop is a little too far for us to walk to. Parents built here in the 1940's and were promised tram to end Gilbert rd back then! They continue to live here and we have moved here recently. For convenience for family life, work and perhaps even a more vibrant Edwards St shopping - please, please make the tram extension happen efficiently and effectively. People have waited long enough for something that should have been done a long long time ago! People who live near the Gilbert Road/Regent Street intersection need to know more about the effect this proposal would have on the existing bus service, which connect us with Preston High Street shops and Preston Market as well as with Reservoir. Would the bus service survive? Advocates of the proposal should be honest about this. Please build it. Please consider an option of terminating the tram directly outside the Reservoir station - there is room for that and could aid transfers. Please do it ASAP. We are getting old. We want to see it. Please do it! Please go ahead and bring it on Please go ahead for the project. We are really wanting the extension tram along Gilbert Road. Please go ahead with this proposal as it will be very beneficial to jump onto a tram for better access around Edwardes St and also reduce the usage of cars around. Please hurry up and do it! Please keep the public informed of your progress! Please make it happen! it would be fantastic for out suburb, it's future and the people who care. Please make this extension happen! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DO IT!!! Please seriously consider this proposal, as it would benefit our community greatly. Speaking to all the elderly residents, they say the council will never do it, to their disappointment. Please let the new and young generation enjoy the new extension. Why can't Reservoir be considered, like some of the better known leafy Eastern suburbs. Too long Reservoir has been considered a poorer suburb to many. I am strongly favour of this extension, but hope it doesn't fade away like so many of similar proposals of yesteryear. Please spend the money on young and homeless Please start the project as soon as possible. This proposal been talking for long long time. Please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please- you get the idea!! People here have been waiting 50 years for the proposed tramline extension. Possible further extensions to Hughes Pde. (as was original design) Possible future investment in Edwardes Park and Lake infrastructure (possible shop/cafe i.e.: Queens Park Moonee Pds) I believe Edwardes Park Lake is an under- utilised resource, and this is partly due to lack of easy, direct access to public transport to get there. There are

48 many people who have access to the Gilbert Rd Tram Line, who would benefit from the ability the extension could offer. I would love to see Edwardes Park Lake have the same community access and public profile of Coburg Lake and Queens Park (Moonee Ponds) by greater access provided by the tram extension, to provide for a possible cafe (as per Queen Park, Moonee Ponds) Project should have been done earlier, the area will benefit and attract more people to area and increase value to area, and will benefit shop owners, it will give them more business. Proposal ok. Public transport extension is always good. It encourages leaving car at home, good for the environment ect. However concern regarding loss of parking on Edwardes St. Would there be increased parking at the train station? Public transport options need to increase across Melbourne. This extension would be terrific!. QUESTIONS: Would this increase the congestion of the High Street/ Spring Street and Cheddar Road intersection? Would this decrease the parking spaces along Edwardes Street? Both would affect me as I live very close to these. Recovering stroke patient, who currently walks 25 mins to Regent St to catch the tram; this would greatly enhance my travel arrangements to medical appointments in Reservoir and West Preston. My family has always thought that at the very least, this tram route should be extended to Edwards Lake. Extending it to Reservoir would be a bonus in my view. (Respondent has Vet Affair Health Card) Reservoir cannot cope with the current traffic/intersection problems at Edwardes Street/Spring Street as it is. Darebin needs to push for the redevelopment of Reservoir Station intersection East and West before introducing another form of transport into the equation. Fix the existing problem first then think about offering extra to Darebin residents. Reservoir has an increasing number of over 50's - trams are safer, well lit and will provide greater opportunities to shop locally. Residents are well serviced along the northern corridor until Preston with a number of tram lines. However beyond Regent R.S. there is a gap in transport options. Heavy rail is efficient, but the Epping line is now very congested and full (until or if it happens the train line is re- extended) and more services provided there will be more pressure for patrons. The tram service is efficient, will alleviate congestion on the train system, runs longer hours and is safer. It is an extremely worthwhile project. Residents of Reservoir are mostly elderly and would find a tram extension to the shops most beneficial. Equally they would find it much easier if travelling to the city for medical, hospital appointments. Where as now people have to walk or take the bus to Regent St West Preston tram terminus. This requires elderly people to have to climb in and out of buses. Safer travelling on Tram Safety - getting home from the station in the dark. Tram safer than walking. Safety has been a big issue in my family causing me to drive children to school than take 3 public (3 different buses) to get to Northcote. Kids do not feel safe walking 30 mins to home especially if they came late from school and went home by tram in winter. Usually parents in my street collected children with car from tram/bus stops. If going home by bus kids had to wait 1/2 hour for buses to arrive, therefore taking 1 1/2 hours to come home from Northcote. Save me driving to Regent Street to get on tram where there is no place to park my car also. Should have been done 30 years ago. Should have been done 50 years ago. Should have been done a very very long time ago. We have lived in Reservoir for 30 years. Should have been done fifty odd years ago when Gilbert Rd was first made. Would be terrific Should have been done years ago! Should have done it a long time ago. Fantastic idea. It will help everyone, everyone will be very happy. Should have happened long time ago. Should this proposal be approved it will service our community greatly. All ages would benefit from this. I believe it is a safer method of transport. I am strongly in favour of this going ahead. Significant delays to Edwardes St vehicular traffic - on street parking restricted. 'Full day' parking for tram users unavailable. Is this the extension mooted in 1956?

49 Sounds great. Having alternatives to the train would be great. Also I feel a tram is a safer form of transport. Greater access to street, less hidden away. Sounds marvellous, but is the road wide enough? What a lot of work to demolish centre strips for pedestrian safety. Picture looks good. Spratling St is not wide enough for tram. Why not stay down Gilbert Rd to Edwardes St. Spratling Street and Edwardes Road are far too narrow and slow to include a tram track, however extending the Gilbert Road Tram into Edwardes Street on Henty Streets would be considered a very excellent proposal. START AS SOON AS POSSIBLE PLEASE Still need vehicle access from Edwardes St to High/Spring St. More parking at train station. Timetable that runs 7 days (unlike bus when it comes when it feels like it). Strongly in favour of the extension, Should have been done a long time ago, many times I have had to use my care to go to city or elsewhere because of lack of transport. This area is now heavily populated unlike a decade ago and is in need of this extension. There is plenty of parking behind most of the shops, if the tram line was extended you could have no care area in front of shops on Edwardes St and make it just a walkway. This would also force people to leave cars at home. Stop taking the public as a joke and spending our hard earn money and fix up the transport system. This should of been done very long time ago, but once again we must spend the taxpayers money on feedback surveys which they done 30 years ago. Stop talking about it JUST DO IT Strongest support possible for this long-overdue, much-needed project. Congratulations to everyone involved. It would greatly improve my quality of life and allow me to live in my Gilbert Rd home for much longer than I have been expecting - wonderful news! Please do it! Strongly in favour - for a long time!!! Yes, my mother is elderly and would require a tram that did not have steps; her heart does not allow her to climb them. This is critical. Also, this tram would seriously slow down traffic along Gilbert Rd, which has become a very dangerous affair and has kept my mother house bound for fear of being run over. (Respondent also has) 'One daughter, she is not dependant, but lives with mum when she is very sick.' Strongly oppose. Create more noise Harder to get out of driveway in car Dangerous for kids More people waiting for trams near my front fence More traffic build up Stupid idea - too much congestion! Suggest that intersection at Edwardes and Spring will be congested and isn't the situation to move and improve Cheddar, High,Spring intersection. Thank you for getting this survey underway. We have been advocating for something of this nature to be done for well over 40 years. Thank God something may happen before we kick - the - bucket! And there are many in the area who will be feeling much the same. Thanks for news. Been waiting for extension a long time. Hope it goes through. That is the great idea to build up the tram alone Gilbert Rd. It is more benefit and better than catch the bus to Reservoir and other shopping. That would be great for Reservoir. The 112 is one of the most exciting tram routes in the city. You start at the beach, go through Sth Melbourne, down one of Melbourne's finest streets (Collins), through some very trendy parts of the inner-city (Fitzroy and Fitzroy Nth), waft through the traffic sewer of St Georges Rd (but hey, it's the fastest way to the next bit) through the cute little Miller/Gilbert village then ending in Regent Village. The missing link is the beautiful Edwardes Park and the (slowly being gentrified) Edwardes St shopping precinct. I admit I'd use the tram probably only a few times a week, but every single time I'd be leaving the car at home. It sure would be topical to discuss the types of stops on Gilbert Rd and how it would be integrated with bike lanes, car parking and car lanes with the road becoming a significant feeder N/S with traffic avoiding the Edwardes/Broadway/Cheddar intersection. But I'm all in-favour for something to get me to my favourite cafe (Jackson Dodds) without the car! The actual route of the tram should be investigated - Henty & Leamington are alterative routes. The benefits of having good public transport options particularly when you have dependant children cannot be overstated. As a parent, daily outings would be much easier and much more enjoyable if we could catch the proposed extended 112 tram - it also teaches the children the values in using public transport. The extension is well overdue! The best project ever

50 The bus from Regent St runs half hourly and the bus north of Edwardes St run hourly, whereas the trams run at 8 min intervals. Many working people in my area drive to work but would much prefer the tram. My family settled in Bartlett Street in 1924 with the assurance that the tram would soon be extended to the lake. 86 years later we are still waiting. Many other suburban lines have been extended again and again. Especially the East Preston/Bundoora line and West Preston has been comparably ignored and forgotten. The bus link from Regent St is helpful at times, but runs too infrequently - my longest wait was 50 minutes. It also make sense to provide a link with the bus services at Reservoir station. The concept drawing is way out of proportion. Edwardes St is not as wide as the picture portrays. It might be congested. It also gets very busy along the shopping strip. Although it would be nice to see a tram instead of buses. Personally for me it makes no, as I have a kilometre to get to Edwards St. It would be good for others. The cost. Edwardes Lake will be finally upgraded after years of neglect, i.e. the children's playground! Otherwise no real need. The council have been saying this for the last 40 odd years and I will believe it when it happens The current bus service is very infrequent and I and most other people never use this service. There could be potential problems at the intersection of Gilbert Road and Henty Street. This is currently a very busy and dangerous roundabout intersection. Especially at peak hour. Traffic lights and road widening may be required in this area. The current termination of the tram stop at Gilbert rd has never made sense. This is a fantastic proposal, one which is well overdue. The development of the tram line is excellent. However, to take the benefits of such a project, a 'holistic' approach would be useful. For example; streamlined time tabling, improved frequency of services, and a transferable ticketing system. For example; the Metro card in New York City. The disruption of traffic to Gilbert Rd would be horrendous during the roadworks needed to extend the tram line and there are plenty of disruption at the moment with roadworks everywhere we go. Besides, the tram line doesn't need to be extended. The Edwardes St extension is too ambitious/ impractical. To terminate at Henty St is beneficial and more likely to succeed. The extended tram route will see us using the car less as we currently drive to Edwardes St for doctor appointments, library visits & the train station to get into the city. It will also save time as we currently walk over 10 mins to the end of the tram line. The extended tram route would also bring more families to the lake. Please do not remove car access to Edwardes Street. The extended tram service would increase the value of homes between Regent Village shops and Reservoir shops The extension is long overdue. It would eliminate our need to drive to current Regent St location and park in surrounding streets and risk of car theft and break in to steal items. The extension makes sense but that being said it fails to address the current problems with the 112 route, which is overcrowding, old infrastructure, inability to catch a tram during peak hour etc. Extending the tram line and super stops (despite the lack of low rise trams on this line) are all very nice but the system doesn't work now how will it work with an expected increased patronage? The extension of the Gilbert tram service will enable me not to own a car, a big plus. Regards The Extension of the route 112 would be extremely beneficial to me and my family. It would provide us all with better access to the community. I, along with the others in my household would use our cars much less, which is greater for the environment we live in. I would reduce my driving 5 days a week. I would have access to shops and other community outlets- library, medical centres. I think it will be great for the area and increase the economy in the area. I am strongly in favour of the extension of the 112 route!! The extension of the tram line to Reservoir station makes a good deal of sense as it would terminate at a . This could greatly assist people to access the health services I provide. The extension of the tram should go towards Banbury Rd, past Edwardes Lake. From the beginning of Henty St to the end of Edwardes St train station is about a 20 minute walk and there is transport already provided on this side (i.e bus, tram and train). On the other side of town towards Banbury Rd there is no train, tram, only bus. Most people will benefit more to Banbury Rd towards Mahoneys Rd. Give life to the other side of Reservoir. The extension of this tram line has been promised for the last forty years. It is about time that it

51 came to fruition. The extension plan will bring huge benefit to me. I work in city and study part-time too. Nowadays I have to get off from Reservoir Station then change to 553 bus. It is not convient at all. Especially at night, 553 only runs one per hour after 7 pm. This plan will bring more residents to the lake and make our local shopping at Edwardes St more quicker. It's the best thing we've been waiting for years. Thankyou. The extension seems logical and a sensible response to meet the needs of a growing population. We need less cars on the road and more accessible public transport options that allow people to become more mobile and less reliant on cars. The extension to the tram would be fabulous and a long awaited development in infrastructure in our local area. This would benefit many people. I would also like to see the bus that drives through residential street (Haig/Crispe) change it's route!!. Thanks for the opportunity. The extension will mean less waiting for buses which only run half hourly weekdays starting at 8am and hourly Saturday afternoon and Sundays. Currently I have to walk to tram from Edwardes St (20 Mins walk) to get tram to work. Many elderly people live near the lake and the extension would be so much better for them to get about. I do hope the proposal goes ahead. The extension would benefit all the older generation and busy younger people, especially those who haven't a car at their disposal. I would also ask for a glass shelter for the corner of Gilbert Rd and Bourke St. This would be a valuable asset to the local residents. Thank you. The extension would benefit both our household as well as my parents who live off Gilbert Road. It would mean we would use the tram to visit one another and also be a faster and easier option to local shopping. The extension of the tram is likely to cause more cars to want to use the back streets to avoid the intersection of Henty and Gilbert. I think this will result in more traffic on Wattle Gve and Locksley Ave which should be discouraged. Traffic management for the safety of the kids at Reservoir West Primary School needs to be considered. The extension will help students connect more frequently to the city and boost rental opportunity in this area. The Gilbert Rd Tram extension proposal is a great idea and I believe it would encourage the community to take advantage of more public transport options The idea of a tram extension is good, but I think that it should run along Spratling St, continue over Edwardes St into Griffiths St, along McFadzean to Hughs Pde; or Botha Ave to Hughes Pde. This would allow people not close to the station access to the tram. It seems a bit of overkill to have buses, trams and trains all terminate at Edwardes St. The linkage to the train and other bus services at Edwardes St would be extremely beneficial for the community. It would provide a massive boost to the Edwardes St shopping precinct and other services in the area such as the local library and ease of parklands (Edwardes Lake) access from Gilbert Road would also be a boost. The loss of parking on Edwards street and Gilbert road ( near 7-eleven) is of concern! The money would be better spent fixing the railway crossing at High St/Cheddar Rd The only concern is for residents in Spratling St and how it will affect them. Also how much of the playing fields will be taken to accommodate the tramlines, parking etc. The only concern is the heavy traffic may need to seek alternative route to Hume Highway, as it appears they travel to Spring St then to Mahoney's Road. Also remove traffic from Reservoir railway intersection. The only worry about the tram extension is the noise of it going past my house. The option of public transport via Carlton, the City and beyond, would relieve the choke of car usage via Spring Street. The plan should go ahead as it will benefit the local community with easier public transport options. The proposal is a top idea The Proposal to extend the route 112 tram line along Gilbert and Edwardes Street would be EXREMELY BENEFICAL to the general public and would provide: (1)ENORMOUS ASSISTANCE and CONVENIENCE to office workers and aged pensioners;(2) a HUGE SAVING OF TIME in the mornings by adding more Proposed Tram Stops; and (3) FEWER HASSLES by eliminating the need to deboard the tram at West Preston, walk to the bus stop, wait(sometimes 20 to 30 mins)for the bus, and board the bus to go to Reservoir. Also, I am an office worker who works typical office hours. In order to get to work, I use the tram exclusively to commute to and from the city, every morning and evening, Monday to Fridays. The tram line

52 extension Proposal means that the Proposed Tram Stops would be closer to my house and, consequently, I would no longer need to walk so far each morning to catch the tram to work commencing at West Preston. This would be tremendously convenient for me because it would reduce my door-to-door travel time by at least 20 minutes and getting to work would be much quicker. It also means that when I work back late from my office(in the evening after dark), I can safely catch a tram from the City to home knowing that my walk home at night, from the new Proposed Tram Stop, will only take me under 5 minutes-instead of my usual 20 minutes from the existing last tram stop in West Preston. Also, my mother(a single aged pensioner who relies heavily on public transport)frequents the chemist, bank and grocery stores located in Edwardes Street at least 2 or 3 times a week, and would also benefit enormously from the closer Proposed tram Stops. The residents of the City of Darebin have been waiting a very long time for the Route 112 Tram line to be extended, and it is A SERVICE THAT IS VITAL,VERY MUCH NEEDED AND LONG OVERDUE!!! The proposal will take commuters away from train usage. However it will serve Reservoir station well. It's a shame the trams can't integrate more safely with Reservoir station - like the buses do. I think people will use cars at the Edwardes St shops rather than the tram. Edwardes St, Reservoir Village landscaping will slow/reduce through traffic. The proposal would make a big difference to the lives of many, both young and old. It is a great idea and would help cut travelling times for all. It has been thought about for a long time and action on this proposal would make residents and travellers very happy and comfortable. The proposed route is currently serviced by a bus route. The number levels on the bus surely cannot justify spending the amount of money to build the infrastructure to support the trams, the number levels on the bus are so low that the bus only operates every half hour with hardly anyone on it. The other problem is that the 112 West Preston line only accommodates the older trams with 3-4 steps to get up into them, the newer trams with one step to access them, you only see once a month at that. If the argument is the ageing population then how will a tram with 3-4 steps assist them, when buses allow for step free access. The proposed tram line extension to Edwardes St is long overdue as it was promised to the land holders along this route when they first purchased land and built their homes 50-60 years ago. Many have since passed or lost their partners since settling here as young couples. The proposed tram line would considerably improve mobility especially of older people in the area and also improve Reservoir as a desirable place to live. I cannot think of any project that would enhance my suburb more. The quicker this proposal is passed and the route 12 extension begins, we as residents have heard all the talk for years (come on!)A little less conversation and a little more action Tram line stopping at Regent Street has always been ridiculous! The route should travel directly to Edwardes lake - this means fewer controlled intersections. The sooner the better, can't wait! The sooner the better. The sooner, the better The traffic at Edwardes St right now is always chaos coupled with an extension the tram on Edwardes St would create more trouble. An ideal plan would be extended to the end of Gilbert Road or at Edwardes Lake Park. The traffic down Gilbert rd has enough congestion, I feel the tram would be dangerous for people crossing the road. It would slow down traffic at busy times, with trams continuously stopping. The tram extension is an essential link that many Victorians will benefit from. It provides a key link for the northern corridor and the city, Docklands, Southbank and St Kilda. It will reduce cars on the road, stimulate business, increase use of public transport. The link will benefit tourists i.e., local, national & international. The tram extension is so long overdue. A good way to connect the tram to train services. The tram extension would be extremely beneficial for my wife and I to go to work. We work in the city. Currently we have to walk 20-25 minutes to Reservoir station to go to work. Tram will cut travel time and inconvenience. The tram extension would be great for Reservoir as there is poor public transport in the evenings and weekends. It would also increase the number of people visiting Edwardes Lake Park. I don't own a car but are considering buying one due to poor transport in the evenings and weekends. That end of Reservoir would really benefit from better and more frequent transport.

53 The tram has been about 50 years to me and it is needed so much to Reservoir always us tram and train. The tram line being extended would help me out greatly. The tram really should go at least to the length of Gilbert. I'm a bit concerned about congestion if it's extended right up Edwardes, to the shop - it's already a bad design up there; driving is awkward and parking horrible already. I live on Edwardes St - am also wondering about construction noise/times. The 112 tram is a great route and it just makes sense for it to reach the lake. Changing to a bus wouldn't be a problem IF THERE WERE BUSES TO CHANGE TO. They are SO infrequent and don't run nearly late enough. They should run until at least midnight. I work in South Melbourne and take public transport to work; a tram extension or an increase (significant increase) in bus services would be fantastic. (Respondent has indicated that husband is disabled) The tram route should be up Banbury Rd to Keon Park Station. Taking a tram through a already congested shopping centre is bonkers! Fix the Spring/Cheddar/High St crossing first!!. The tram should not affect the bike lanes on Edwardes St The tram would bring a safe and clean transport option. Being a parent, safe transport is important for my children. The tram would greatly benefit our lifestyle The trams are safer for women and would give me far more options regarding entertainment. At present I WILL NOT travel by train after dark. I WOULD use the tram instead. There are many elderly people in Reservoir, West of Spring Street, who can use the tram from Regent, but there would be more if the tram were extended to the station or up to the lake. My husband and I frequently drive the car to Regent Street to catch the tram to St Vincents Hospital for medical appointments and to an optometrist nearby. If/when my husband can no longer drive, this would be a big problem, as it is too far to walk. There are three people at home, all of us would use the extended tram much more. We really want this to happen! There has been talk about this extension for 40 yrs??. It's about time. There has been talk of extending the tram line to Edwardes Street since I was 4 years old and I’m now 67! Continuing existing line that ends at Regent Street to the end of Gilbert Road at Edwardes Street and the lake would be enough and wonderful, without disturbing the flow of traffic along Edwardes Street to the station It's also beneficial to travellers going south, to the city, not only from. There now is a lot of elderly folk in this area so it is very important that they feel free to travel and so be independent. There was talk that this tram extension was going to go ahead fifty years ago! When I was seven years old! There would need to be one stop between current last stop at Regent and the new terminus at Edwardes St. Think it is a great idea! Think it is a great idea, have lived in reservoir all my life and believe this would make getting to Edwardes street shops and the train more accessible to all, regardless of whether they have a car or not. Think it is a great thing for the community in area for this extension to go ahead. Think it should definitely go ahead, even if it only goes as far as the lake. Think that this has been proposed before. Would like to see it become an eventuality. Thankyou. This extension is long overdue. The current termination point of the tram at the corner of Regent St is utterly ridiculous and leads to nothing. Everyone would benefit from this extension, but particularly the elderly and students. The extension would also bring many economic benefits to Reservoir and particularly Edwards St shops. This extension of Route 112 would be a great asset to the area. It is just a pity it does not extend across the railway line and High St along Broadway & Boldrewood Pde to Plenty Rd as was suggested many years ago when I was a child. Please do not think I am not in favour of this proposal because I am. It will be extremely beneficial to all residents who rely on public transport who live in this area. This extension should have been done decades ago - originally we have to fight for roads and a footpath - even for sewerage to be connected. Over the years, the wages paid to the

54 'Mayor' of the city goes up and up - still nothing done - one has to be 'ethnic' oriented to get anything moving. I know this is a waste of my time to be writing this - just get on with the job of doing something for the future. This extension should have happened many years ago. Transport options past Edwards Lake are extremely limited. Reliance on car is heavy due to only other option of public transport being the bus, which in our area is infrequent. This extension should not effect any business at Regent St/Gilbert Rd. ie: Regent St should still be a main tram stop and meeting point. This extension would be of great advantage to the community and it should have been done 20 years ago This extension would help Reservior shops and residents, the buses are never as good as trams This extension has been discussed for decades and would be excellent for all if it was implemented. This extension would provide many options to commuters and provide better access to shops at Edwardes Street, and also access to public areas such as Edwardes Park and adjoining parklands. This Gilbert Rd tram extension to Reservoir station is long overdue. It's always been talked about, surveyed etc, but never proceeds. Just go ahead and build the tram extension. The extension is a key link for the Northern corridor and the city, Docklands and St Kilda. It will reduce cars on the road, improve business and increase use of public transport. It's a benefit for all Melbourne residents. The extension is vital for the commercial success of Reservoir, Docklands and Southbank and the city (CBD). This has been a long awaited project. My young kids will definitely benefit from this, especially going to school. This has been promised for 30 years. So now is the time. Right now, so let's do something for the next generation? now?? This idea has been around for 40 or so years, stop wasting public money with questionnaires and JUST DO SOMETHING!! STOP PROPOSING AND DO SOMETHING THAT ACTUALLY WILL BENEFIT THIS AREA!!! This is a change I would welcome because it would give access to Edwardes Lake Park via the tram. This is a fantastic idea this would help my elderly mother get around more and visit friends and family, thank you for the help. This is a fantastic proposal and would be greatly beneficial to all the residents in the area. I cannot wait for this to be realised!! This is a good idea and provides additional transport options for a very large suburb. It will help to modernise Reservoir, lift its profile and make it a very attractive option for people to come live, work and play. This is a great idea and it would be fantastic if the street was made to look a little better. This is a great idea that is long over due as it would link with the train station and people will use public transport a lot more because of it. This is a great idea! We hope the proposal goes ahead. This is a great opportunity for all residents to be able to use trams for 'our local' area. All medical, supermarkets, chemists are on Edwardes this is definitely beneficial for our community. This is a logical progression to the existing service. Another option would be just to extend the tram to Henty street on Gilbert road. this is much closer to link the services than existing and would also suffice This is a project that has been considered for over 60 years. This is a very much needed tram extension. It should have been done instead of stopping at Regent. Needed for quality, simple community daily life. Thank you very much. This is great project for Reservoir area. It must go ahead. This is long overdue - we need this tram link! For people with no car/ one car it's difficult to access train and tramline to city. This would help our family a lot to live in Reservoir with greater access to many services. This is long overdue! This is magnificent news if it goes ahead. We only have one car in our family and it would

55 make thinks 100% easier to get to the shops and train, to the lake on days I don't have a car to take the children and the same for my wife when I have the car. It’s also very hard to walk all these blocks in the tram in winter, but with the extension it will fall just outside my house. This is really responsible local and state Government. You are addressing community access to services while adding energy efficiency in the community. Thank you for considering this very worthwhile project and I trust you can cause it to happen. This is the most important issue facing our local community, in terms of required infrastructure. This is the project I was dreaming about for long time. I thought its never gonna happen. Thank you guys for this project. This needs to integrated with the road - rail grade separation at Reservoir station because trams will restrict traffic flow in Edwardes St. Tram ways must not be allowed to build a 'super stop' as there are too big and narrow the road too much. Forcing cars and bikes to share a single lane raises the stupidity of planning decisions to a new High. Get rid of bike lanes in Edwardes St and put them in Henty St, as this road has already been destroyed by roundabouts. There needs to be many more spaces for bikes to park for the day near the train the silly looking curved light poles are over priced if they are anything like those in new estates. Pedestrian flows between tram terminus and train station will need to be managed properly, Tram should be in zone one not two. Need to take dog leg out of Edwardes St. Need to stop idiots double parking in Edwardes St especially outside bank. Need to increase car parking in area due to loss of Edwardes St parking. This plan will give my children better access to work and educational opportunities in the future if it goes ahead. It's a great idea - please do it! This pocket of Reservoir has been so under facilitated in enabling residents to connect to the city and local area, considering its proximity to the city. The tram line is overdue and needs to be developed, along with an overpass of Reservoir station. This project has been offered for over 50 years. So I hope this is not just another offer and it goes through. Also the tram to Edwardes Lake would be more a priority first before the connection to Edwardes at train. So I may see this if I live to be 100!! I hope it does get done! Excellent project for all the community. This project is long over dur, it should be done and completed years ago because badly needed for sick and old people in any area not only Reservoir Preston this project is most important project in Northern Suburbs its State Government Election Promises and Duty. Thankyou. This project should have been introduced many years ago. This project would give me and my family much more access to the local community and friends and family. This proposal can't happen fast enough. This would distribute over loaded trains and would provide greater access to the city. It would add safety to travel and I won't have to drive. It would eliminate the parking congestion around Brunswick and Fitzroy Streets. Adds a sense of security if knowing I won't have to drive if I'm coming home after dark. Please make it quick. This proposal has been on your drawing plan for almost 10 years now. As from speaking to both young and old people, we are all in favour of this project. There have been so many signatures and letters sent to your Darebin office for this to go ahead. The issue seems to always come up when there is a council election. I don't know why there is a long wait for this to go ahead as all residents are in agreement on this project. This proposal has been talking for a long time. When it can be built to benefit the area of community. Still a question mark. I don't want to be waiting for another 20 years. Seeing nothing to be happened. We ask local government to do something really with state government and RACV. This proposal is a great idea, would benefit myself, two housemates, and all visiting friends. Not to mention all the other folk between regent St and Reservoir station. This proposal is good because if in place it will strongly benefit residents because we don't have much transport on this side of Reservoir. I am strongly in favour! This proposal needs to go ahead. We strongly support this. Great for transport options, fewer cars and also promoting Edwardes Lake and streets as destinations on tram line. A real benefit for Ed St shops and our community. This proposal probably doesn't effect me personally but I think it would be very beneficial for lots of people in the community. This proposal should have come years ago

56 This proposal sound very good, I've lived in Reservoir for 52 years and there has been talk on and off about extending the tram line to the lake - BUT NOTHING HAS COME OF IT. SO HOW FEASIBLE WOULD EXTENDING IT DOWN EDWARDES ST? MAYBE IN THE NEXT 50 YEARS. This proposal to extend the Route 112 tram is a very good decision because the 'Koala Childcare Centre' is nearest the Gilbert Rd, so very comfortable for all the people. Schools, parks, health club are nearest so this decision is very good in favour of the public. This proposal was put forward a number of times since late 60s and 70s. Let’s hope that this time it will go ahead!!! This proposal will give people an obvious second option for travel into the city and in doing so would take pressure off our stressed rail option. This proposal will have absolutely no impact on me and my travel behaviour. More importantly, the state government has no plans to extend the tram line and won't be influenced by your poxy survey proffered by way of advocacy. I wish you would focus on the things you actually can influence and spend my ratepayer dollars on these things, rather than wasting resources advocating for this to fill a Cr election promise. I remember reading this promise in the election materials, and I think this is a bit of a stunt for that the Cr/s to say they have tried. Please spend my money more wisely. This proposal would greatly improve our area and finally link it to the train station, which would encourage more people to use public transport and drive a lot less. This service is 50 years too late in being introduced, it has been urgently required. Politicians being what they are, I will believe it when it happens, because of our voting habits over the years we are taken for granted. This service must be universally accessible to be of the most benefit to users. This should have been in place 10 years ago. This tram extension access would be a great benefit to all Reservoir residents and members and would link Regent & Reservoir together and make it much easier for the pensioners. This is a wonderful idea to extend the tram and thank you. This tram line is a fantastic idea and I hope that it goes ahead. This was promised to us 50 years ago. This will help the environment; and if I don't have use of the car (e.g. my husband may have it) I have easier access to get to Edwardes St to do shopping This would be a complete waste of money. I can walk any of these distances involved here. The only tram that would be useful is a trolley bus which is able to use normal roads and bus stops. Such a bus could go to Northland, Preston Central and other places quite easily. The only drawback is having overhead electricity lines, which the wingers in this city would probably object to anyway. A trolley bus service should also go up to Doncaster via the freeway. More link ups later and the bus should be fitted with solar panels to make the bus more economical. This would be a great asset to residents in the area. We have been waiting for an extension to the tram line since the 1940's - my grandparent's day. In this 'modern' world, public transport is a must. We have to get people out of cars. Public transport also builds community. Thank- you. It would be a wonderful thing to achieve a tram line extension. This would be a great service both to travel to the city and also to Edwardes St shopping centre. I prefer to use public transport and this would be very encouraging. This would be a massive benefit to me and thus the world if this went ahead. I would catch the tram everyday to work in Fitzroy rather than drive. This would be greatly beneficial as there are wide sections of senior citizens and students that this would make transport to connecting other means of transport, very convenient and necessary. This would be my dream since 1956. Thanks. This would be the best transport improvement for Reservoir. Access to CBD is essential esp. for work. Great Idea. This would be very beneficial to our community and provide direct access to Edwards Lake from the city and be easier to use, rather than catching a bus then tram to get to city/St Kilda. Very good idea. This would be wonderful and is long overdue. My elderly friend is not able to use buses but can catch a tram. With this extension I would not need to drive to Regent St to pick her up and she would be more likely to visit.

57 This would have many benefits and couldn't happen sooner. It would also mean better access to Edwardes Lake for anyone to enjoy. This would help me as I sometimes bring my grandson to school This would make an enormous difference to the area in which I live. It would make public transport more accessible to me. Trams are more frequent and run much earlier and later than buses. This would be a great improvement. Currently I am a half hour walk to Reservoir Station. This tram service would be 10 minutes from where I live. This is an excellent proposal. This would provide a viable alternative to care travel and a better option than the train. To catch a tram would be fantastic To extend this tram route is necessary To link up with Edwardes Street and Reservoir station. It would be a good idea hope it goes ahead. Because I am 90 years old and live on this side of the line it is of no benefit to me but the people who live over that side it would be of great benefit. I sincerely hope the project goes ahead. To whom it may concern, If you were to put a tram there because of the elderly and myself the old trams they can't get up the steps, but the new trams are much better to get on and off. Train travel these days is a problem with the worry as an older person, I'm not as stable as in past years to be able to defend myself in an emergency. The increase in being attacked is not pleasant at my age and I would welcome the ability to have the availability of tram travel to my G.P. in West Preston. Tram extension should not be via Henty St; instead should run down Gilbert Rd and go right at Edwardes Lake round-about and continue down Edwardes St Tram is my preferred form of transport as it is direct to places I frequent in the city and neighbouring suburbs. 112 Trams run frequently and are always on time! 112 Tram can connect me to my volunteer employment in Brunswick. I've lived in Pine St for past 10 years awaiting this extension. What an asset it would be as the years pile on! (And a 20 min walk - impossible!) Thanks-you! Keep on the task! Tram safer than the train Tram stops would make more congestion. The traffic at peak hours is bumper to bumper now!! Much prefer the bus to go along Regent St as it did years ago, when passengers didn't have to go north before they could reach (1) the new Clinic (Wood St) (2) new shops north of Murray Road etc (half an hour for a couple of minutes) Tram would be just great. Depends on if it gets the go-ahead. I believe it's been on the agenda for years. Will we ever get a tram going up Edwardes Street Reservoir? Or is it another hope, or just word of mouth? Please let's hope it gets the YES to go ahead, for a tram up Edwardes Street to Reservoir Station. I'm all for it. Trams going along Edwardes Street would cause further congestion at the Edwardes-Spring Streets intersection - as a lot of heavy transport trucks and cars now use Edwardes Street. Unsure how a tram/tram stop would fit in with Edwards Street shops USE HENTY ST. INSTEAD OF EDWARDES ST. Use the train because tram steps are too high we need the newer trams with better access. Using tram to visit hospitals and appointments with out taking car. Most beneficial for all. Very beneficial for those living in West Preston and around Gilbert Rd Reservoir - access to train & shopping precinct. Very happy to hear about the plan! I hope it will go through! We are three of us in this household and we all would use the tram if extended! Please count it X3. Very happy, will make travel so much easier. Very strong in favour of this proposal and hope it happens in the very near future. Waiting for better access to public transport for much too long. Praise the extended to Edwardes St. Waiting for this project for the last 20 years. Hopefully it will be done. Was proposed about 40 years ago when Gilbert Rd was sealed the centre was left unsealed for tramway. There is a lot of car parking near Gilbert Rd & Henty St intersection. We all need this and in some areas more public transport. It would be great if it goes ahead as we need it for children to get to school on time, helps the old and sick, it helps people get to job appoints and doctor appoints on time and it’s a help to the whole community. We all want it so please keep us informed if this goes ahead. It would also be a coup for the party / councillors in power to actually make this happen. Given change in this areas

58 demographic will be important. We are a household of 4 with only one car, 2 working adults, one child at high school and one at uni. Extending the tramline would add greater flexibility of transport options and a greater frequency. All members of our family use a combination of bus & tram transport to a variety of destinations. We are waiting for the tram coming. Very good proposal. We as a family will have better and easier access to Edwardes Lake Park. Our family and our neighbours have wanted this tram extension for years. We could catch tram to school (PWPS). It would make daily commute to city better - Less walking. I walk 20 mins to Henty St to Regent to get tram. We currently have two cars in the family. If this project went ahead, we would sell one vehicle, as one would be more than sufficient. Whilst looking ahead says 10-20 years, this project would enable us to stay in our current home, rather than having to sell and move closer to public transport. We have a beautiful lake in Reservoir that is mainly used by locals. The lake & facilities are fantastic & should be accessible to the wider community. During summer you cannot even get a car spot around the lake and the streets are full of cars. We are sure that people will use their vehicles less if they had direct transport to the lake and the shops in Edward St. People with disabilities and the elderly can go to the lake and shops much easier, as many of them don't drive and currently have to walk from the station or catch the bus. Now, the buses that we see around the are, they are always empty or have 1 or 2 people on them. What a waste of money. Having accessibility to the Reservoir Hospital for the wider community is fantastic, people will not have to walk a mile (especially when they are ill). The access to both ovals is fantastic, parents & children involved in both the cricket & footy clubs will be able to get to the ground much easier. People further North will be able to drive and park their car in & around the ovals, lake and hop on a tram to go into town. At present all the car parking facilities are always FULL. All and all we believe it would be remarkable for Reservoir to have this wonderful transport option, however, why can't they take the line directly down to the lake and turn right at the round at the lake, then straight up Edwards St. That seems to be a more sensible approach. BUT THIS IS SO, SO, WELCOME - BRING IT ON. We have been discussing this problem for 15 years and strongly support this tram route extension. We have been waiting a long time for this and it would be great to finally see it extended to link up with train, shops and healthcare. It is very difficult to find parking at Reservoir Village. We have been waiting along time for this project to go ahead. We have been waiting for a long for this tram extension, we hope it will come true. Best wishes. We have heard of the tram route extension proposal from a few decades now, but nothing ever eventuated!! Please no more broken promises!! Just do it already! Please Mr Brumby. We have waited 53 years for the extension of the tram line to be extended. The road was unmade when we moved to Reservoir and we were told that the line would be installed at that time - we have walked a lot of miles in that time, especially when the children were attending St Raphael's school. I hope I live to see the tram up and running. I also think it will be beneficial to the people who will be in the Kodak Housing area, and also the caravan park, as we have no bus running on a Sunday. Have to walk to the tram terminus - Hooray!! We have waited for this to happen for so long. We have waited for too long for this extension We need this, as soon as you can. We need to drive our cars less and capitalise on public transport. The route will be welcomed by the residents of Reservoir. We really want the extension. It will help so much!. We share one car between 2 of us so use the train on a daily basis. If tram came along Edwardes St we would use the tram instead. We also have visitor that would use the tram instead. We strongly support Darebin City Council extend the tram (Route 112) to Edwardes St because more convenience for us to go shopping. We strongly support the extension as it provides a greener travel option for us, easier connection to the CBD and will boost housing values in Northern Reservoir. Go for it. We strongly support the proposal. We believe it would add great value to the community.

59 We think it's a great idea for the community. We think the tram line should only be extended to the end of Gilbert Rd - to Edwardes Lake Park. Extending it all the way will congest Edwardes St shops even more! We think this is a great idea. We are a one car family, and the extension would help us stay that way. We were told when we bought our block in 1948 the tram was to be extended along Gilbert Rd - it was - as far as Regent St. Check on bitumen extension to Henty St - records should show foundations suitable for trams. We are still waiting for trams to connect with trains. Hope to see them extended northward before we die. We would highly benefit from this extension as it would allow much greater access to Brunswick and the city. We would like the State Government to support and give funding to extend the tram line along Gilbert Rd & Edward St as soon as possible. Thank you. We, who have lived in this area over the past 40 years, have attended many meetings on this same proposal. Nothing has ever eventuated from these meetings and discussions, and I shall be (Pleasantly!) surprised if it ever occurs in my life-time. Well done to Darebin Council for making a strong case for this improvement. Well Done! We've been living in the area for over 40 years and have been waiting for the tram extension to happen. When we bought to house, even the estate agent said the tram extension was coming, which also influenced our decision to buy the house. We hope it goes ahead. What a fantastic idea!! What a fantastic Proposal! Would certainly help local shopping - people getting on and off trams in front of the shops. Peak hour trains are getting congested at Reservoir - there are hardly any seats available - once the South Morang Station is re-opened(not sure if that is happening) but if it does - there will be no hope of getting a seat at Reservoir. If there was a tram - I would certainly take it. If it does go ahead the trams would have to be frequent as I am sure the residents of Reservoir would use it!. I am keeping my fingers crossed!!. What a joke, instead of wasting money on more congestion in Edwardes Street, how about fixing the High Street, Cheddar Road, Broadway intersection problem that's getting worse. Hire a bus and see what it feels like at around 8.30am weekdays, trying to get from High Street over to Broadway its mind boggling. I bet that you would soon realise that money should be spent on this mess rather than the one proposed. What about looping east up Henty St, north at Olive St, then head back west down Edwardes St? This will force Moore Park to be fenced off to protect passengers and participants alike. What about the retailers in Edwardes St.? How will any parking changes affect them? Will there be a proper traffic management plan and audit done? When I am no longer able to drive, I will rely solely on public transport - the tram would be my closest option. When travelling home at night from CBD, Northcote, Fitzroy I'd feel much safer using the proposal tram route compared to the train When we bought our block of land in 1947 (which we paid 250 pounds for) the Estate Agent said the tram would be going up to the lake soon. We are four streets past Regent and our block is 64 ft frontage and 110 ft in depth. When we bought our block of land in 1949, it was proposed to extend tram line then. We built and shifted here in 1956. We are still waiting for that promised extension. Now at our age it would be most helpful When we bought this land in 1944 or 1945 we were told Gilbert Road North would be sealed and trams would be going through Edwardes Street and across the railway line(via an over pass or underneath)up High Street to Melbourne. We have had the road sealed and the stop taken a bit further so perhaps if I live to be 100 years old I may see the tram in Edwardes Street. I have lived in this house for 64 years. Please go ahead and make this a bigger city. We will be needing more of everything as this population gets larger. Also get rid of the buses in side streets. When we come to live here 61 years ago. Tram line was to extend to the lake. When Gilbert Rd was made provision was left in the middle of road for tram lines. Hope it goes ahead this time as it is needed. When we moved to Reservoir in 1955 the tram was supposed to be extended to Henty St at that time. It come not come quickly enough to the shops at Reservoir.

60 Where will go? Which houses will go first? How do you propose to build a tram line on an already crowded Edwardes St? Do you plan to widen Edwards St or eliminate parking altogether? Do you know what effect this will on local businesses? Do you plan to bring in clearways throughout the day and busy trading hours? Are the current bus services not sufficient enough? Will this final become a 40 zone? While I use the train mostly, I think the proposal will provide better connection to the north-west areas of Reservoir. It will also better integrate with other modes of transport such as tram and bus. While it doesn't affect me directly I'm sure the extension would benefit other people Whilst the bus has a good service I find it too circuitous. I think a tram route, as proposed, would be fantastic as it would provide a more direct transportation to Edwardes St shops, my health provider and a network of friends. Why along Edwardes St - this would make a very busy street congested. Why not, if there must be a tram, run it along Henty St, which would still terminate near the station and shops, and allow traffic to flow along Edwardes St. Why has this not be done? It's a great idea, it offers so many positives and so little negatives. I live in the Gilbert Rd area, and I think I would never use my car to venture down to the Edwardes St shops. I’m all for it, and this should have been done years ago. Why this proposed route? It seems incredibly unambitious. Why not examine wider options including taking the tram along Banbury/Massey up to Mahoneys Rd? And even creating a loop with an extended East Coburg tram going north from Bell Street maybe past the new Kodak development and into Newlands Rd and connecting the loop at Edwardes St.? Yes it is in Moreland and heaven forbid that this could become a 2 Council project, but these trams haven't been extended since Adam was a boy, so why don't we get serious about it and propose something the State Government might pay some attention to, instead of something that's so local it's myopic? Why waste a lot of money and create a lot of constant noise fro the residents on Edwardes Street when Reservoir train station is right there! Why waste a lot of money and create a lot of noise fro residents on Edwardes Street when the train station is right around the corner. Will benefit all people at different times with different needs. -Will bring consumers from other councils into Darebin; increased revenue -access to football and cricket grounds; leads to community involvement. -easier access to lake/parklands - improves demand for living in the area; leads to increased value Will really help financially. With advancing years it would be so good to have easy transport to shops and Northern Hospital. Also getting to the city. It would open up so many options. It would also make Edwardes Park easy to get to for a pleasant day out. With my health deteriorating the extension of the tram would be of great importance. It would also benefit the environment as you don't have to use your car as much. With so many units and sub-divisions on blocks, so many more people live in the area, and we must link trams and trains to make public transport more attractive and workable. With so much money being spent on Plenty Rd and a multitude of people having such a wonderful transport system I think we are long overdue for serious consideration about Gilbert Rd and Regent Sts. This area has gone backwards to older days, two banks, one supermarket GONE plus no food outlets in this area. We have a newsagency who takes care of bank and post office needs and that's it. I don't know what your Council thinks of all this but I think it is pathetic. I have been in this area for over 50 years and no improvements have taken place concerning transport since we got the tram over 40 years ago. Our time for consideration SURELY NOT in another 10 years but NOW. With strong current and future growth in the N/W Reservoir area. The proposal provides greater access to local services and other metropolitan services. We have a beautiful lake and park in Reservoir which many people cannot enjoy due to the lack of public transport options. We have walking groups that use Edwardes Lake Park but in winter time they have problems accessing it from locations that don't have efficient public transport. With the increase in residents along and around Gilbert road (mainly due to dual and multi occ and multi story apartments) direct access to Edwardes street shopping percent and reservoir railway and bus services would keep money within the local area. Won't have to drive to Regent terminal and park to catch tram.

61 Would the tram be charging on a zone 1 and 2 cost? Would be a great benefit to city of Darebin and for local businesses. Would be a great opportunity for reservoir to be part of Preston/ Northcote and easy access to the city. Much safer and easier than the train service. Would be a wonderful addition to public transport options. I drive daily to Regent/Gilbert Rd to park then catch a tram to East Melbourne when I work. This would mean I could walk to the tram from home and leave the car in the garage. Love it!! Would be beneficial to the older people in the area. Should have happened years ago. Would be great as I do not own a car and the train is far from my house. Would be happy if the proposal went ahead as our transport of bus here in North Reservoir is very poor, especially on Saturday, often 12:30 no bus to train station - How does a person come home with taxi??? If no other transport Would be very beneficial for the area around Edwardes St Would be very convenient to have a tram/train connection at Reservoir Station - especially for older people who cannot walk so far. Would bring more options to residents living north of Edwardes Park Lake for journeys into the CBD. Would help bridge the gap between Edwards St village and access to tram. Better access to bell street and St Vincents hospital. Would love this proposal to finally go ahead. Great idea to connect transport with other means of transport. E.g. tram --> reservoir train station. Great idea of pensioners that live in our area. Would provide alternative and connective transport. Would this give an upgrade do a more updated tram with inspectors for this services Yes build it as soon as you can. Tram would be used more with locals. Yes I am in favour as my children would need the tram to go to school. At the moment it is a hassle. Yes I have lived in Reservoir for 40 years and have been waiting for the tram to come when we bought our house we were told that the tram line would be extended, and as we are getting older we can't walk to the shop the tram would be great. Yes I have one comment, this is a good proposal for everyone because with trams, can get easily to Gilbert Road. Yes please !!! Yes Please! It's about time! Yes would co-ordinate tram and train at Reservoir. Could promote Edwardes Lake as a Melbourne tourist spot building a restaurant or tea rooms in old boat shed. Been hearing of this proposal for 60 years and never gone ahead. Yes Yes Yes. I've been waiting for years. An excellent idea- great for the community, residents, and council in general. Now for tea house at Edwardes Lake, Market days, Festivals, etc... Reservoir will boom!!! Yes, been waiting 53 years for this to go ahead Yes, I have lived in Gilbert Rd area for 50 years - this is nothing new; this proposal I'm sure it won't go far. Look at all the car parking facilities Henty St and Edwardes St, both side of ovals. Yes, I think this is extremely beneficial to most people. There is a bit of traffic congestion and this would lessen a lot of traffic and parking in the area. I also have a teenager which would make great use of this as he finds it quite difficult to get to destinations ie: sport, school and work. Trams are more reliable than buses and trains. I would be excited for our family if this goes ahead. YES, JUST WANT TO SAY: It's much more safer for females who live far from the station but have to catch the train. Especially in the winter, when ladies who live near the Edwardes Lake finish work, it has been very dark, also they maybe missed the last bus and have to WALK 20 - 30 MINUTES back to home. THAT’S VERY DANGEROUS!! ANYTHING COULD HAPPEN and could be a big nightmare. Yes, quickly get the project going. It was supposed to be done 23 years ago when we moved to Reservoir. Yes. This same idea was put forward about 50 years ago and we thought that it would have been very good in those days as it would be now, they even dug up the centre of Gilbert Rd to lay the tram lines and they changed their minds and filled it all in again. My wife and I are more concerned about the taking away of our bus stop sign outside of the Reservoir Bowling Club

62 where it was for years opposite our present bus stop, which has been there for years and now we have to struggle up another couple of hundred yards if the driver sticks to all the bus stop signs. You should really go along with this project it would really help my family out a lot , getting to school and work easier. It's such a great idea and really should have been done ages ago. Zone 1 & Zone 2 should be scrapped and purchases be made on the number of stops which is a lot fairer distribution often on the public purse, it also allows the whole system to be equitable on the outer suburbs and maintains more of a balance to the Equation than the present which penalises the outer suburbs where the growth is.
