D & R Leibowitz 5/12) The Special Spirituality of the Jew YERACHMIEL BINYAMIN BEN ZEHAVA TZIVYA (M. Cohen’s grandson 5/12) The Torah tells us that Moshe officiated as the Kohen in the Mishkan for the first seven days of its inauguration. On the eighth day, AVRAHAM BEN SARA (fr. J. Herz/Wenig 10/12) Moshe was told by G-d to install Aaron and his sons to be the Kohanim. ZEEV BEN BELLAH RIVKA (Dr. William Etra 5/13) The Torah states regarding Aaron and his sons, "At the entrance of the Tent of Meeting shall you dwell day and night for a seven-day period, CHAIM YITZCHAK BEN CHANA (fr. Kerry Newman 6/13) and you shall protect Hashem's charge so that you will not die; for so DOV BARISH NACHUM BEN ESTHER (fr. E. Shallom 6/13) have I (Moshe) been commanded. ESTHER BAS FRAYDEL (fr. C. Lippman 4/13) At Sinai, Moshe communicated the Torah to the entire Jewish people - a population of millions. Chazal tell us that at Sinai when MINYA BAS BAYLA (fr. D. Aronin 7/13) Moshe spoke to the Jewish people, it was the Voice of the Divine CHANA BAS TOVA GITTEL (fr. Shatz 10/13) Presence that emanated from the "throat of Moshe." Thus, it was the equivalent of hearing the Voice of Hashem. However, regarding Aaron ROIZE GITEL BAS BROCHA LEA (Rosenthal m., 10/13) and his sons, they had only heard Moshe communicating to them the ROCHEL BAS MIRIAM (fr. Rosenthal w. 10/13) Word of G-d. Nevertheless, they received this communication as if it RAISELLE BAS PESSEL (fr. Shallom 10/13) were being directly communicated by G-d Himself. We say in the Shema, "Let these matters that I command you SARA MALKA BAS SARA (fr. Sh. Welcher 11/13) today (ha'yom) be upon your heart." The Gemara interprets the word MALKA BAS ESTHER FRAADEL (Malka Liker 11/13) "ha'yom - today" to mean, "They should be in your eyes as if they were new." Despite the fact that the Torah was given at Sinai thousands of ROCHEL BAS PENINA (fr. C. Hochman 12/13) years ago, one should relate to it as if it were given to him today. Is the HINDA CHASYA BAS CHANA (fr. H. Schonhaut 1/14) significance of "newness" vis-à-vis the Torah an issue of retaining ESTHER BAS MALKA (fr. T. Gordon 3/14) "specialness" about the Torah or is it something else? With our understanding of "Vaya'as," regarding the perception and internalization of Aaron and his sons, we are able to understand the meaning of "I command you today - " When we experience the Torah, it should be as if Hashem communicated it Himself to us today (as at Sinai). If one experiences mitzvos as if himself had heard them at Sinai from Hashem, they would be valued & one could not be distracted from them. "Ha'yom" does not only mean that the mitzvos should be special because they were recently given, but rather one should experience them as special way because we view them as if directly communicated Please contact the QJC office to add/remove someone from the Mi Sheberach. to us by Hashem - as Aaron and his sons had experienced.
