To reach the WHO elimination target by 2020, SAFE (Surgery, Antibiotics, Facial cleanliness, Environmental improvement) strategy has been implemented in the Southern Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples' Region (SNNPRs), Ethiopia. Scarce evidence exists regarding recent progress in achieving elimination of active trachoma (< 5%) and how well the SAFE strategy implemented. Methodology: A retrospective analysis of programmatic data in the period 2013-2018 was used. All trachoma endemic districts in SNNPR were included. Data collected from the Federal Ministry of Health on trachoma prevalence and SAFE strategy were analyzed. Results: Out of 134 endemic districts, only 35 had their planned impact survey, of which only 11 districts achieved the elimination target. -

The area is known for its surplus production of agricultural commodities. However, market chain of agricultural crops in general and red pepper in particular is not well understood. The study has duly focused on the structure and conduct, market participants and performance of red pepper markets. The data were generated by structured questionnaire, focus group discussions, key informant interviews and field observation. This was augmented by secondary data collected from the BoARD, Woreda marketing agency reports and websites. Quantity of pepper passed through different marketing agents from farmers to consumers. The Farmers-Collectors-Wholesalers-Processors-Consumers channel carried the largest volume, which is 35.7% of the total volume followed by Farmers-Wholesalers-Processors-Consumers channel which carried about 27.6% of the total red pepper marketed. -

February 2016 MoWCA – Government of Ethiopia and Kudumbashree – Government of Kerala, India Partnership for Adapting the Kudumbashree Model to Ethiopia Supported by IPE Global under the Knowledge Partnership Programme Report Based on Scoping Exercise for Finalization of Intervention Plan 15 November – 03 December 2015 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY Background Kudumbashree-State Poverty Eradication Mission, Government of Kerala, India in partnership with the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs, Government of Ethiopia, supported by the Knowledge Partnership Programme, conducted a scoping exercise to identify the existing structures and practices and exploring the potential of adapting Kudumbashree model to the context in Ethiopia from 15-26 November 2015. The team visited Federal offices (MoWCA, MoH, MoA, Central Bank, FeMSEDA, AEMFI, and CoSAP) and government functionaries and existing women groups in eight Kabeles across four Woredas in two Regions. The field areas visited are: Oromia Region – West Arsi Zone – Sheshemane and Arsi Negeellee Woredas SNNP Region – Gaurage Zone – Abeshge and Cheha Woredas Observation from the Field Women’ Development Group (WDG) The 1-5 network groups and the WDGs were close knit and coherent groups. They were involved in regular meetings and savings. In Oromia Region, they took loans from their internal savings and engaged in various income generation activities. There was existence of leadership, but rotation of leadership was not evident. They were also involved in social development activities and also had the ability to plan for identifying issues in the community and find solutions to it.
