This study uses the Eric Hobsbawm’s theory as the idea of changing form or renewal, In the form of this dance, it is classified as a group choreography with nine dancers who function as a welcoming dance or opening ceremony. The choreography presents a tradition that has been passed down from generation to generation, namely sekapur sirih which is a symbol of respect and appreciation for the guest of honor. Gending Sakti dance is one of the new welcoming dances in Palembang City because there are two different cultural elements that make up the Gending Sakti dance as a new welcoming dance for guests. Hasil pembahasan: 1) Historisitas tari Gending Sriwijaya; 2) Tafsir gerak tari Gending Sriwijaya dalam kajian nilai moralitas; 3) Nilai refleksi historis civil society. Tari Gending Sriwijaya sebaiknya menjadi orientasi logis dalam pengejawantahan tari sebagai refleksi nilai historis, sebab kebutuhannya menyokong adab generasi mendatang yang berkontribusi terhadap kesuksesan visi civil society.     15 New Sundanese dance for new stages Irawati Durban Ardjo In this essay I will discuss part of my life in dance, beginning with my experiences studying and performing dance in an era when con- ditions were very different to those of today both in Indonesia and abroad. My essay, unlike other contributions to this volume except for Melani Budianta’s, are based on personal experience. While Melani’s essay recounts her personal experience and the cultural life of Per- anakan Chinese in Malang, a town in East Java, I am writing about the experience of a Sundanese dancer on the national stage and my trav- els abroad which influenced developments in the arts in Indonesia.1 When I came to write about this experience, I discovered many things of which I had previously been little aware. The time, during the Soekarno period, when I began to know dance, to love it and to participate in it so enthusiastically was in fact an important period in the young nation in its efforts to shape Indonesian-ness; as a people, as a nation and in the arts. President Soekarno was a statesman and an artist who loved the arts, particularly the dance of Indonesia’s regions. The period that forms the timeframe of this book, 1950-1965, is fit- ting because we can consider it the period when the foundation pil- lars were set in the search for national culture and in awareness of the importance of regional arts within it. Furthermore, political and cultural contacts with the outside world resulted in a new context for regional dance and dancers, and new stages for them.

The purpose of this research is to analyse the values of the art performance of Jaranan Pogogan Teguh Rahayu. This study used a descriptive qualitative approach with a case study model at the art performance of Jaranan Pogogan Teguh Rahayu. This research was conducted in Sugihwaras village, Prambon Sub-district, Nganjuk Regency. The data in this research is classified as two, namely primary data and secondary data. The data collection techniques in this study are field observations, interviews, documents, and library studies. The triangulation is used as the process in the validity of the data of this study. Technique of analysis data used data reduction, data presentation and conclusion and verification. The results showed that there are four values contained in the Pogogan Teguh Rahayu Arts Museum, they are as follows; the value of deity, the value of goodness, the value of righteousness, and the value of beauty.

Identitas ini perlu dijaga, dipelihara dan dikembangkan. Salah satu seni yang digunakan sebagai ciri khas daerah dan identitas bangsa adalah Seni Tari. Seni Tari merupakan salah satu cabang seni, dimana media ungkap yang digunakan adalah tubuh. Tari mendapat perhatian besar di masyarakat, karena laju pertumbuhan tari memberi corak budaya yang lebih variatif, dinamis, dan sangat beragam dalam intensitas pendalamannya. Oleh sebab itu dalam beberapa tahun ke depan tari menjadi semakin memiliki peran yang diharapkan dapat memperkaya khasanah budaya bangsa. Tari merupakan bahasa gerak yang dijadikan alat ekspresi manusia. Tari sebagai media komunikasi yang universal dan dapat dinikmati oleh siapa saja, pada waktu kapan saja. Seperti yang diungkapkan Soedarsono, bahwa tari merupakan ekspresi jiwa manusia yang diubah melalui gerak ritmis yang indah. Dalam konteks yang masih sama Soeryodiningrat (1986, 21) memberi warna khasanah tari bahwa beliau lebih menekankan kepada gerak tubuh yang berirama. Hal ini seperti terpetik bahwa tari adalah gerak anggota tubuh yang selaras dengan bunyi musik atau gamelan diatur oleh irama sesuai dengan maksud tujuan tari. Lebih jauh, CurtSach (1978: 4) menyatakan bahwasannya tari merupakan gerak yang ritmis. Diversity is a source of inspiration for Indonesian piano composers in creating piano works that have an Indonesian identity. Amir Pasaribu became the first composer to use Indonesian musical idioms in piano composition and was followed and continued by Mochtar Embut. Trisutji Kamal, Jaya Suprana, and Ananda Sukarlan began to expand the use of musical materials from various regional music in Indonesia. The various compositions they have compiled have also inspired pianists by making their works as a repertoire of choice during performances or recitals, both nationally and internationaly. The Indonesians recognized their work and made it a way of supporting the expansion of the piano curriculum system.

Tanggai Dance is one of the dance that until now continues to exist and become a dance that must be known and studied by young people especially women. It is not recklessly to dance the Tanggai dance, but dancers should also know the contents of the dance, because there is a value to be conveyed to the people who appreciate the Tanggai dance. There are two focus problems that will be researched and for- mulated in the research question which is how the form of Tanggai dance and what is the meaning of the movement of Tanggai dance in the city of Palembang. This research uses qualitative re- search methods. The research aims to discuss the shape and meaning of the dance movements of Tanggai. The discussion of the form uses the concept of Suzzane K. Langer and Soedarsono about the form which means the structure of a relationship of various factors that are intertwined. Discussion of the meaning of motion using the concept expressed by Anya Peterson Roice about the three things of use is, mimetic, abstract, and metaphoric. The result of this research is Tanggai dance in Palembang city is a packaging dance form for welcome guests. Related to the meaning of the whole movement of Tanggai dance that has the meaning of surrender to the Lord Almighty.

The song of Gending Sriwijaya was made in Japanese colonial period when they came to Palembang. This dance was started in agust 2nd 1945, to welcome the guests who visited to Palembang and until now this dance still used as a welcoming dance for the guest country or even a hight officer when they come to Palembang. The existence of this dance is also inseparable from the history of Sriwijaya kingdom, which was very famous in its golden era VISM. It’s also related from the interpretation as the creation of the motion that can’t be separated from the history of Sriwijaya with the development of Buddhism at the time. The result of this research is showing that influence of Buddhism is very dominant in every symbols and lyrics whisch are song to describe the Sriwijaya kingdom’s golden era.
