MY REVERED TEACHER AND FRIEND I DEDICATE THIS BOOK IN WHICH HE WAS DEEPLY INTERESTED J.K. INTRODUCTORY. HEN in the period of the Renaissance, men's m i n d s W were waking from the long sleep of mediaeval darkness, SOLOMON TRISMOSIN, one of the less known Adepts of Alchemy, went forth in search of that secret knowledge, the possession of which leads to Alchemical Adeptship. His romantic Wanderings in Quest of the Philosopher's Stone, he has himself described, and if he declares to have reached that Eldorado of Hermetic Knowledge wherein is found the prized Philosopher's Stone, although we may feel inclined to doubt his word, we are, nevertheless not in a position to entirely dispute his statement. For since the discovery of radioactive substances chemical theory has vastly changed. The very Elementality of the chemical Elements is questioned, and the alchemical idea, that Metals can be decomposed into three ultimate principles : SALT, MERCURY, and SULPHUR, may not be so absurd after all.

It contains an entire section on ‘astronomy’, which is one of the keys to wisdom and perfection.

Of the Work 3 4 INTRODUCTION DR. SIGISMOND BACSTROM, M.D., flourished towards the latter part of the eighteenth and the beginning of the nineteenth centuries. He was, evidently, of Scandinavian origin, judging by his name, and certainly, for a part of his life, he was a ship’s surgeon. As some doubt is cast upon this fact by A.E. Waite in The Brotherhood of the Rosy Cross, the following extract will confirm it. In a publication entitled Voyages and Travels, in all Parts of the World, by John Pinkerton, Vol. 1, 1803. Published: Longman, Hurst, Rees, and Orme, Paternoster Row, there appears: “An account of a voyage to Spitzbergen in the year 1780, by S. Bacstrom, M.D., communicated by the author to the editor of the Philosophical Magazine, July 1799. “Such has been my passion to visit foreign climes, that I have been no less then fifteen voyages, one of them round the world. “I engaged myself as surgeon on board the Rising Sun, William Souter, Master --- a well appointed stout ship of 400 tons burthen”. None of Bacstrom’s alchemical works was ever published by himself, although H.P.

  • Jung, Alchemy, and the Aurora Consurgens
Jung, Aquinas, and the Aurora Consurgens: Establishing a Relationship with God By Barrie Davis A thesis submitted to the Victoria University of Wellington in fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Arts in Religious Studies School of Art History, Classics and Religious Studies Victoria University of Wellington 2010 Copyright © 2010 by Barrie Davis All rights reserved ii For Kim iii Abstract The reunion of a man with God is the subject of a medieval text which aggregates excerpts from the Bible and Arabic alchemical texts that had recently become available in Europe. The Aurora Consurgens personifies God as Wisdom, a spiritual being who not only formed the world in the beginning but is also a guide to men to return to God subsequent to their separation at the Fall. The union of feminine Wisdom and a man is aligned with pairs of opposites such as spirit and soul, and is also conflated with the union of a man and a woman. While the text is perhaps falsely ascribed to St. Thomas, it is consistent with his ideas so that it may be explicated using his writings on the Trinity, psychology, angels, and Greek philosophy. From there, correspondence is established with C. G. Jung‘s concept of archetypes, and the text is subsequently interpreted from the perspective of analytical psychology. It is identified how interaction of archetypes associated with the union of a man and a woman provide an explanation for the process of redemption given in the Aurora. A similar process of redemption is identified in other writings from the beginning of the Christian era up to the modern teachings of the Catholic Church.

  • Rosarium Philosophorum (Part 1)
The Rosary of the Philosophers This is a transcription of the 18th century English translation of the Rosarium in MS Ferguson 210. The text was originally printed as part II of De Alchemia Opuscula complura veterum philosophorum..., Frankfurt, 1550. It contained a series of 20 woodcuts. Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 Part 5 Rosarium Philosophorum (part 1) Here beginneth the Book of the Rosary of the Philosophers most diligently compiled and brought into one volume. They who desire to have the most true knowledge of the greater science of the philosophical Art, let them diligently peruse this little book and often times read it over and they shall obtain their prosperous and wished desire. Listen to these things, you children of the Ancient Philosophers, I will speak in the loudest and highest voice I can, for I come unto you to open and declare the principal state of human things and the most secret treasure of all the secrets of the whole world. I will not do it feignedly and erroneously but altogether plainly and truly, wherefore use you towards me such devotion of hearing as I shall bring unto you magistery of doctrine and wisdom, for I will show you a true testimony of those things which I have seen with my own eyes and felt with my hands. There are many men too forward as deceitful boasters which after great expenses and labours, find out no effect but misery. I will therefore speak plainly and manifestly so that the unskillful, as those that are expert and skilful, shall be able to understand the secret of this mystery.
