IT’S ALL A BLUR: EXPLORING GENDER EXPRESSIV FASHIONS HONORS THESIS Presented to the Honors College of Texas State University in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for Graduation in the Honors College by Natalie Victoria Arida San Marcos, Texas May 2017 IT’S ALL A BLUR: EXPLORING GENDER EXPRESSIV FASHIONS by Natalie Victoria Arida Thesis Supervisor: _______________________________ Dr. Gwendolyn Hustvedt, Ph.D. Family Consumer Science Approved: ____________________________________ Heather C. Galloway, Ph.D. Dean, Honors College Abstract: Gender expressive fashion is a way of dress where individuals can show what gender role they are filling that day. Someone who identifies as gender-fluid may change their role every day because they do not identify with any one sex. Individuals who classify themselves as gender-neutral do not identify with any sex; they can be considered unisex or genderless. An androgynous person exhibits characteristics from both sexes, and this can be shown through gender expression as well as sexual expression. A transgendered individual is someone whose gender identity is different from their assigned sex at birth. Over the past few years there has been an increasing acceptance for these different gender expressions, and with that has come a large fashion movement. Through history different gender expressive fashions have been popular trends with the masses; and through my research I aim to uncover if the current fashion movement will repeat history and fade away or, if this is a new social reality that will forever change gender expression. In order to do this, I will first define four different gender expressions, and then research the historical fashion trends for each category, followed by the current fashion for the different expressions.

Abstract When Netflix launched in April 1998, Internet video was in its infancy. Eighteen years later, Netflix has developed into the first truly global Internet TV network. Many books have been written about the five broadcast networks – NBC, CBS, ABC, Fox, and the CW – and many about the major cable networks – HBO, CNN, MTV, Nickelodeon, just to name a few – and this is the fitting time to undertake a detailed analysis of how Netflix, as the preeminent Internet TV networks, has come to be. This book, then, combines historical, industrial, and textual analysis to investigate, contextualize, and historicize Netflix's development as an Internet TV network. The book is split into four chapters. The first explores the ways in which Netflix's development during its early years a DVD-by-mail company – 1998-2007, a period I am calling "Netflix as Rental Company" – lay the foundations for the company's future iterations and successes. During this period, Netflix adapted DVD distribution to the Internet, revolutionizing the way viewers receive, watch, and choose content, and built a brand reputation on consumer-centric innovation.

After months of waiting, anxious fans will finally find out what happens when a prime-time hit returns to the airwaves. Nathan Fillion reprises his role as John Nolan, a cop who sets out to find a col- league after she goes missing in the sea- son premiere of “The Rookie,” airing Sun- day on ABC. The debut marks the fourth season of the hour-long drama centered on Nolan, a 40-something cop — and oldest rookie in the history of the LAPD — who works at the Mid-Wilshire Division of the Los Ange- les Police Department. The police drama is the latest in a string of hits for Canadian-American actor Fillion, who rose to fame as Capt. Mal- colm Reynolds in the cult favorite TV series “Firefly” and its subsequent spinoff film, “Serenity” (2005), and as sleuthing mystery writer Richard Castle in the ABC crime drama “Castle.” Born and raised in Edmonton, Fillion moved south to pursue a career in acting, landing roles in TV shows “One Life to Live” and “Two Guys, a Girl and a Pizza Place” and in the movie “Saving Private Ryan” (1998). Now, he’s leading the cast of one of prime time’s highest-rated network series: “The Rookie.” At the end of last season, pregnant Det.

This article incorporates Crenshaw’s (1991) theory of intersectionality to examine the impact of racism, heterosexism, and cissexism in understanding the identity develop- ment narrative of the author, a queer and trans Chinese Vietnamese American graduate student. To recognize the impact of conflicting values among a student’s families and communities, this article focuses on the importance of incorporating intersectional understandings of privilege and oppression to inform student-centered theoretical conceptions of the identity development of queer and trans students of Color.

Saying “Bi Bi” to Exclusive Feminism L. F. In modern feminism, we see many influential women coming forward and utilizing social media to spread awareness on prevalent issues, such as rape culture and male gaze. These leading voices are strikingly different than the ones that came before them in terms of diversity. The struggle to include many minority groups in feminism has been long fought and still continues today, but one of the forgotten is the LGBTQ+ community. Though lesbian women have led past feminist movements, the trans and bisexual community has been shut out just as much as gay and bisexual men and everyone else in the queer community. These groups are consistently ignored because they are seen as contrary to the feminist movement just by their identity, especially bisexual women who find themselves excluded from both the LGBTQ+ community and the heterosexual community. Luckily today many women like Roxane Gay, who identified herself as a Haitian-American, bisexual, feminist, and writer in an NPR interview, are leading feminism and exposing millions to its principles through media (Raz).

  • Including All Genders at End of Life “If We Had Known This at the Start
Including all genders at end of life “If we had known this at the start, things would have been so much better for our trans client.” So said management at an aged care facility after the shock of discovering a client who had been admitted as a male was actually a trans woman.” It wasn’t the trans person’s fault nor the service’s fault. But how did this situation arise? Let’s take a few steps back. First of all, when we say trans, or precisely trans and gender diverse (TGD), what does that mean? We’re talking about a broad range of people whose sense of how they see or and/or express their gender differs from what society expects, given the person’s body at birth. Such people may have some sort of surgery and may not, may have taken hormonal treatments or not and may expressly themselves differently in some way. There are lots of terms used in this area; the main thing is that everyone’s term is their own. For older TGD people (and often for people across all age cohorts), they have mostly faced huge and intense difficulty including abandonment by original family, hearing huge inaccuracies about their lives e.g. as per during the 2017 postal survey, huge discrimination by society on a day-to-day basis and in terms of systemic issues e.g. accurate documentation – and including in service provision. It is this last point that gives us a key to the above scenario. Many have received incredibly poor treatment from service providers over their life and are reluctant to disclose information about themselves.
