NOTIFICATION OF PUBLIC CERTIFICATION REPORT 20TH APRIL 2020 RE-ASSESSMENT CANTABRIAN SEA PURSE SEINE ANCHOVY FISHERY CLIENT : OPEGUI, OPACAN, OPESCAYA, CERCO ASTUR, SOCIEDAD COOPERATIVA GALLEGA DEL MAR SANTA EUGENIA MARINE STEWARDSHIP COUNCIL CAB: BUREAU VERITAS CERTIFICATION HOLDING SAS Following a 15 UK working day objection period on the Final Report for the CANTABRIAN SEA PURSE SEINE ANCHOVY FISHERY, the Public Certification Report was produced by the assessment team and published on the MSC website on April 20, 2020. Both, the assessment team and Bureau Veritas Certification Holding SAS agree that the CANTABRIAN SEA PURSE SEINE ANCHOVY FISHERY COMPLIES with MSC Principles and Criteria and determined that the fishery should be re-certified against the MSC-fishery standard. The fishery will keep certified for five years, subject to the results of ongoing surveillance audits. The members of OPEGUI, OPACAN, OPESCAYA, CERCO ASTUR, Sociedad Cooperativa Gallega del Mar Santa Eugenia are the only companies eligible to use the MSC fishery certificate and sell fishery products as certified. The product caught by the Unit of Certification presented in the table below is eligible to be sold by the client group as MSC certified and enter further certified CoC without restrictions. ICES Subarea VIII, divisions 8a -e (Bay of Biscay) Fishing method Purse seine The client group includes all the vessels integrated in the Basque producer’s organizations (OPEGUI and OPESCAYA) which are at the same time members of the Basque Federations “Federación de Cofradías de Guipuzcoa & Federación de Cofradías de Vizcaya” and in Fishing operators the following producer’s organizations: OPACAN, Sociedad Cooperativa Gallega del Mar Santa Eugenia and CERCOASTUR aggrupation. An up to date vessel list can be found on the MSC website, or by contacting Bureau Veritas. The following guilds (“cofradías”) acting as the first point of sale and landing port are included in the certificate: Cofradía de Bermeo, Cofradía de Lekeitio, Cofradía de Ondarroa, Cofradía de Getaria, Cofradía de Pasaia, Cofradía de Hondarribia, Cofradía de Laredo, Cofradía de Colindres, Cofradía Castro Urdiales, Cofradía Santoña, Cofradía de San Vicente de la Barquera. However, once a Cofradía issues the sales note before the next user, i.e. the company that purchases the fish, they will be required to have a valid chain of custody certificate whenever they want to market the product bought with an MSC certification. In addition, the following warehouses for storage (freezer) and distribution activities are included in the certificate of the fishery as part of the client group: • Cofradía de Bermeo, Muelle Bidea, 9, 48370 Bermeo, Vizcaya. • Frigoríficos de Bermeo. Polígono Lamiaran Aramburu, 48360. Mundaka, Vizcaya. The client group decided to leave open the certificate to other eligible fishers, the unit of assessment covered other Spanish vessels authorized to operate in ICES Subareas 8a, b and c by the Spanish General Secretariat for Fisheries.
