This article presents Eutelsat European Ka-band implementation of the broadband ToowayTM service and its evolution through a dedicated Ka-band exclusive satellite (KA-SAT). It also explains Eutelsat’s choice in se- lecting the Ka-band for interactive services, broadcast video and IPTV ser- vices, demonstrating the optimal consumer service synergy between existing Ku-band and new Ka-band services. KA-SAT satellite is not focusing only on consumer triple-play services. In- deed, Eutelsat strategy consists in offering also professional video and data services in Ka-band (video distribution, video contribution, e-cinema, file transport) sharing the same transparent satellite bandwidth and the same ground segment infrastructure. For those professional video applications the last content processing (SVC) and satellite transport (DVB-S2 ACM) techniques are under deployment and this paper will present simulation results and link budgets estimations for a large number of future commercial applications. 1 Introduction Eutelsat operates 25 satellites in the geostationary arc from 15°W to 70.5°E offering a variety of services from corporate networks to broadcasting. The HOT BIRD™ con- stellation at 13°E constitutes the prime position for DTH (Direct to Home) and cable broadcasting, utilizing the full Ku-band spectrum from 10.70 GHz to 12.75 GHz. There are 102 transponders delivering about 1400 TV channels. The HOT BIRD™ service area reaches some 120 million satellite and cable households. -

Jehn Produced with the DISCOS Database February 2010 ESOC Robert-Bosch-Str. 5, 64293 Darmstadt, Germany 3 Abstract This is a status report on geosynchronous objects as of the end of 2009. Based on orbital data in ESA’s DISCOS database and on orbital data provided by KIAM the situation near the geostationary ring (here defined as orbits with mean motion between 0.9 and 1.1 revolutions per day, eccentricity smaller than 0.2 and inclination below 30 deg) is analysed. From 1161 objects for which orbital data are available, 391 are controlled inside their longitude slots, 594 are drifting above, below or through GEO, 169 are in a libration orbit and 7 whose status could not be determined. Furthermore, there are 77 uncontrolled objects without orbital data (of which 66 have not been catalogued). Thus the total number of known objects in the geostationary region is 1238. During 2009 twenty-one spacecraft reached end-of-life. Eleven of them were reorbited following the IADC recommendations, one spacecraft was reorbited with a perigee of 225 km - it is not yet clear if it will enter the 200-km protected zone around GEO or not -, six spacecraft were reorbited too low and three spacecraft did not or could not make any reorbiting manouevre at all and are now librating inside the geostationary ring. Sistemul presupune recep-ia programelor doar de pe un singur satelit, dupa ce acestea au fost ‚adunate“ de pe to-i sateli-ii pe care emit acestea İi ‚grupate“ într- un ‚pachet“. Introduction Nowadays, Romania presents 3 providers that offers digital televison, special romanian or translated into romanian language; there are also hungarian programs or programs translated into hungarian. This three providers are: Digi TV, Focus TV and Max TV. Momentarily it is under testing for the fourth operator, QTV, scheduled to emit starting april 2006. In brief, the history of Romanian DTH is poled by the following events: ? December 21, 2004 œ the first DTH operator is launched; ? January 29, 2005 - the first pre-payed pack, HBO, is launched; ? February 23, 2005 œ the Cinemax program is presented, tax free, till the end of 2005. -

Global pay TV fragments The top 503 pay TV operators will reach 853 million subscribers from the 1.02 billion global total by 2026. The top 50 operators accounted for 64% of the world’s pay TV subscribers by end-2020, with this proportion dropping to 62% by 2026. However, operators beyond the top 100 will gain subscribers over the same period. Simon Murray, Principal Analyst at Digital TV Research, said: “Most industries consolidate as they mature. The pay TV sector is doing the opposite – fragmenting. Most of the subscriber growth will take place in developing countries where operators are not controlled by larger corporations.” By end-2020, 13 operators had more than 10 million pay TV subscribers. China and India will continue to dominate the top pay TV operator rankings, partly as their subscriber bases climb but also due to the US operators losing subscribers. Between 2020 and 2026, 307 of the 503 operators (61%) will gain subscribers, with 13 showing no change and 183 losing subscribers (36%). In 2020, 28 pay TV operators earned more than $1 billion in revenues, but this will drop to 24 operators by 2026. The Global Pay TV Operator Forecasts report covers 503 operators with 726 platforms [132 digital cable, 116 analog cable, 279 satellite, 142 IPTV and 57 DTT] across 135 countries.
