    IN TOUCH THE OFFICIAL MAGAZINE OF DUNLOP MOTORSPORT [ www.injection.tv ] LE MANS RACE EDITION Dunlop came away from the Le Mans 24 hours delighted with the performance of its dry and light wet tyres after a difficult race in which the changing condi- tions contributed to the overall result. “We were pretty competitive in all conditions other than full wet conditions,” says Dunlop’s chief tyre technician Matthew Simpson of the LMP2 tyres. “On the slick tyres and the light wet tyres, we had a performance advantage, but in full wet conditions we struggled to get temperature into our compounds. The Essex car had engine trouble so we were never going to do better than we did, but we have to look at the tyre perform- ance in wet conditions and make it better. “The Virgo Ferrari team were very strong and our development construction at the rear allowed us to double stint safely. There was no sign of difficulty in doing so, and there was zero deterioration from the first lap to the last in a double stint, according to the drivers. Le Mans podiums for Essex Perhaps we could have triple stinted, but we didn’t test that before the race and during the race was not the time to try. Porsche and Farnbacher Ferrari “The Creation team had four punctures and three of them were caused by debris.     TOYOTA GAZOO RACING COMPLETES DRIVER LINE-UP Tuesday 28 March 2017 TOYOTA GAZOO Racing can confirm its full driver line-up for the 2017 season, with Yuji Kunimoto and Nicolas Lapierre joining the team for races at Spa-Francorchamps and Le Mans. Yuji and Nicolas will line-up in the #9 TS050 HYBRID alongside lead driver Stéphane Sarrazin in the second and third races of the 2017 FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) season. Yuji, 26, has a wealth of endurance experience from his eight seasons in Super GT and he wrote headlines last year by beating several world-renowned drivers to win the Super Formula championship. A former Japanese Formula Three champion, Yuji will continue to compete in single-seaters as he defends his Super Formula crown in 2017 alongside another Super GT campaign. Frenchman Nicolas, 32, is returning to a familiar environment, having raced for the team from 2012 to 2014, earning TOYOTA’s first hybrid WEC victories. Since then, he has established himself as a leading LMP2 driver, having twice won the class at Le Mans whilst winning the WEC drivers’ title in 2016. Today’s announcement completes the full TOYOTA GAZOO Racing line-up for 2017, following January’s confirmation that the #7 car will be driven by Mike Conway, Kamui Kobayashi and José María López, while Sébastien Buemi, Anthony Davidson and Kazuki Nakajima will compete in the #8. During the only opportunity for testing on the 13.650-kilometre non- permanent circuit, the three Audi R8 cars entered by the two teams finished in fourth, seventh and eighth places respectively. At the end of the nine-hour pre- practice session, the “American” Audi R8 driven by JJ Lehto and Marco Werner led the Audi trio with a lap time of 3m 38.719s. Only three tenths of a second slower was the all-French Audi PlayStation Team ORECA with Jean-Marc Gounon, Franck Montagny and Stéphane Ortelli, who finished seventh. Following right behind them in eighth place was the Audi R8 entered by Team ADT Champion Racing with Emanuele Pirro and Frank Biela. In the first half of the pre-practice, the German-Italian pairing had lost some time in the pits due to some minor problems. For the Audi R8 – with its track record of four victories the most successful Le Mans prototype of all times - 2005 marks the sixth and final season because new regulations will come into effect in 2006. In the 24 Hours of Le Mans the three Audi R8 cars have to start with 50 kilograms of additional ballast and a smaller air- flow limiter than in 2004.
