Just from that place to the town of Ulcinj beaches occupy a small area just 7.3 km to 77 km over the entire surface of this coastal area, which is largely responsible for the configuration of the terrain in some places quite steeply down to the sea. Sandy beach length 830 m is called the pearl coast and is known for its fine sand. Besides beaches, there are coffee bars, restaurants and fast food facilities. On the southeast side of the Canj bay is Sutomore bay where there is a tourist place Sutomore. The Queen's beach is situated in the vicinity of Canj, at its very north. This small but attractive beach can be approached only from the sea. It is surrounded with sediment cliffs. Because of its environment, fine sand and crystal clean sea water, it was the favorite beach of queen Milena when coming to the Topolica castle. Sutomore is located on the banks of a small bay in the surrounding vineyards, olive and grape, tangerine, orange and lemon. Regardless of their size Sutomore provide for himself popularity of both domestic and foreign tourists because of the economic and affordable accommodation and food prices due to the fact that he is only 30 minutes away from Podgorica, which contributes to the fact that many residents of the capital came to the beach in the morning and evening return home either by bus, car or the local train which is popularly known as “bathing train”. Unlike Canj, Sutomore is much larger settlement in which life takes place throughout the year due primarily near the town of Bar, and that the issuers of private accommodation in Sutomore live as opposed to Canj where people come only during the summer in their vacation homes and receive visitors in the rooms and apartments. In addition to private accommodation in Sutomore there are several hotels with 2*, 3 * and 4*. The infrastructure is developed on the coast alongside the beach; there are numerous cafes, restaurants, facilities with fast food, shops, and discos. On the beach provides a large number of water activities. Amongst its numerous monuments of the past, the tourist attractions most likely to capture your attention are the Church of St. Tekla with its Orthodox and Catholic altar, the ruins of the Benedictine monastery in the pine trees area of Ratac and Haj Nehaj fortress. It is the ending railroad station on the railroad Belgrade-Bar and is the seat of the Bar Riviera and the Bar municipality. It is divided into Stari Bar (Old Bar), Bar and the port. Old Bar is situated in the hinterland of the Bar plain some 5 km from the sea. It consists of an enclosed town of around 600 buildings of public, religious and military character. The majority of the buildings date back to the Middle Age and Renaissance period. Other buildings belong to the period of Turkish occupation. All the buildings are located inside the city walls and most of them are ruined. Residential architecture has late Gothic, Renaissance, and oriental elements. The architecture is characterized by a powerful fortified system built in the late 15th century and during the 16th century, consisting of towers and linked defensive walls. There are the remains of 17 churches out of which some are conserved and restored. In the immediate vicinity of the town there are many medieval churches, bridges, and oil and flour mills and an aqueduct from the late 16th and early 17th century. The fortress is now an open-air museum. This is the region of the great olive-growers and olive oil producers. They can boast about having the oldest olive tree that sprouted two millenniums ago! This olive tree, with the developing port, is the dominant symbols of the town. The medallion of the International Television Festival, which is held every year in this peaceful town, has the shape of this ancient olive tree. According to legend, no resident of Bar could get married unless they planted at least ten trees of this noble Mediterranean plant. The Montenegrin part of the lake and its surrounding area were declared a national park in 1983 and in Albania a Managed Nature Reserve. In 1996 in Montenegro and in 2006 in Albania, Skadar-Shkodra Lake was included in the Ramsar list of wetlands of international importance. Lake Skadar is a wonderful place with mirrored waters, rocky shores and wetlands full of wildlife with more than 270 species of birds, plenty of natural herbs, traditional fishing villages, numerous islet monasteries and cultural heritage sites, fascinating beaches surrounded by karst mountains, various amusing, social and cultutral events. Lake Skadar area is where some of the best wines and organic food in Montenegro can be found, cultivated by the local producers especially in Crmnica and Godinje valleys in Montenegro and Shtoj village in Albania. There are also numerous accomodation facilities, restaurants and shopping centers, on the Montenegrin and Labanian sides of the lake that make this area attractive to hiome and foreign tourists. Being a tourist attraction with all these natural and cultural resources the aim of this inventory is to prepare a joint Montenegrin and Albanian inventory on tourist facilities and capacities of Lake Shkodra area, to promote Lake Skadar-Shkodra as a joint tourist attraction internally and internationally.

Like the Bay of Kotor, it’s the juxtaposition of mountains and sea that sends the spirit soaring, although unlike the bay it’s a less closed-in, sunnier vibe that’s engendered here and the water’s even clearer. Croatia may hog most of the coast but Montenegro’s tiny section packs a lot into a very small area (a bit like the country itself). Without the buffer of Croatia’s islands, more of Montenegro’s shoreline has developed into sandy beaches, culminating in a 12km continu- ous stretch leading to the Albanian border. Unsurprisingly, much of the nation’s determination to reinvent itself as a tourist mecca has focused firmly on this scant 100km coastal region. In July and August it seems that the entire Serbian world and a fair chunk of its northern Orthodox brethren can be found crammed into it. Avoid those months and you’ll find a charismatic clutch of small towns and fishing villages to explore. Living on the fault line between various civilisations, the people of the coast have forti- fied their settlements since ancient times. That legacy can be explored in the lively bars and shops of Budva’s Old Town, the surreal glamour of Sveti Stefan’s village resort, the ramshackle ADRIATIC COAST residences within Ulcinj’s fortifications and, most evocatively, the lonely and mysterious ruins of Haj-Nehaj, Stari Bar and Svač.

Their successful promotion is intended to secure economic growth and a higher standard of living for the local population. The basic methodological approach has been secondary research, based on existing bibliographical sources. Primary research has included field visits, surveys of the local population, interviews with relevant representatives of small businesses and of the National Park and analysis of the results collected. The findings point to a need for change in the economic structure in favour of the development of small business and enterprise and for their networking with the objective of creating competitive products, facilitating employment and securing access to the market. In order to breathe life into this as yet underdeveloped region, potential sources of financing need to be secured and greater initiative on the part of the national and local government is needed.
