Given the historiogra- phical disproportions in the coverage of his biography, which has been reflected in relatively little attention to the early period of life and the creation of new “myths”, the periodization of main stages (milestones) of life and consistent reconstruction of biography of Casimir / Klymen- tiy Sheptytsky have been conducted. His family environment, education, worldview formation and evolution have been described, the peculiarities of his social and political activity in the re- gional societies and the Austrian parliament have been shown, the motives and circumstances of the choice of monastic life have been clarified. The activity of Klymentiy Sheptytsky on the revival and development of Studite monasticism in Galicia, support of Andrey Sheptytsky’s ini- tiatives on the development of the Greek Catholic Church in different state-political regimes (Austria-Hungary, ZUNR, the Second Commonwealth, the first Soviet occupation, German occu- pation and formation of the USSR) and the spread of its influence outside Galicia, in the east, have been analyzed. The tragic page of the last years of Klymentiy Sheptytsky’s life from arrest and exile to death has been covered. A number of “unresolved” issues in his biography that require the search for new sources and more detailed scientific studies have been identified, including the cheirotonia of a bishop. Key word: Greek Catholic Church; Casimir Count Sheptytsky; Doctor of Law; Ambassador of the Austrian parliament; Klymentiy Sheptytsky; Studite Rite; Hegumen; Archimandrite; Exarch; UGCC Blessed New Martyr. • Influence of Agglomerations on the Development of Tourism in the Lviv Region
Studia Periegetica nr 3(27)/2019 DOI: 10.26349/st.per.0027.03 HALYNA LABINSKA* Influence of Agglomerations on the Development of Tourism in the Lviv Region Abstract. The author proposes a method of studying the influence of agglomerations on the development of tourism. The influence of agglomerations on the development of tourism is -il lustrated by the case of the Lviv region and the use of correlation analysis. In addition, official statistics about the main indicator of the tourism industry by region and city are subjected to centrographic analysis. The coincidence of weight centers confirms the exceptional influence of the Lviv agglomeration on the development of tourism in the region, which is illustrated with a cartographic visualization. Keywords: agglomeration, tourism, research methodology 1. Introduction Urbanization, as a complex social process, affects all aspects of society. The role of cities, especially large cities, in the life of Ukraine and its regions will only grow. The growing influence of cities on people’s lives and their activities was noted in the early 20th century by the professor V. Kubiyovych [1927]. Mochnachuk and Shypovych identified three stages of urbanization in Ukraine during the second half of the 20th century: 1) urbanization as a process of urban growth; 2) suburbanization – erosion of urban nuclei, formation of ag- glomerations; 3) rurbanization – urbanization of rural settlements within urban- ized areas [Mochnachuk, Shypovych 1972: 41-48]. The stage of rurbanization is ** Ivan Franko National University of Lviv (Ukraine), Department of Geography of Ukraine, e-mail: [email protected], orcid.org/0000-0002-9713-6291. 46 Halyna Labinska consistent with the classic definition of “agglomeration” in the context of Euro- pean urbanism: a system that includes the city and its environs (Pierre Merlen and Francoise Shoe).

The origins of the Ukrainian Catholic Church lie in the time when much of present-day Ukraine formed part of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. It was then, in 1596, that for a variety of reasons, many of the Orthodox bishops of the region decided to accept communion with Rome.(1) After almost four hundred years the resulting Union of Brest remains a contentious subject.(2) The new "Uniate" Church formally recognized the Pope as Head of the Church, but maintained its traditional Byzantine or eastern rite, calendar, its right to ordain married men as priests, and its right to elect its own bishops.

The present study aims to fill the gap in the history of philo sophical thinking in Poland, and to show the bearing of the ency clical in the Polish philosophical centers and the reception it met with. The whole study can be divided into four groups of problems: 1) Christian philosophizing in Poland before the encyclical, 2) the main points of teaching in the encyclical, 3) the evaluation of the encyclical in Poland, 4) the response of the philosophers to the recommendations of the encyclical. 1. Christian Philosophical Thinking in Poland before the Encyclical We can say, in a general way, that the main issue of Christian philosophy in Poland, in the middle of 19th century, was the defence of faith threatened by the rationalistic attitude. The attacks of reasoning were seemingly twofold: on the one hand from the already in decay, nevertheless still fascinating idealistic philosophy 1 Cf. v a n Riet, L'Epistémologie thomiste, Louvain 1946 (on neoscholasti cism before the encyclical Aeterni Patris, pp. 1—114); cf. also E.
