Day 1 | Wednesday, : Arrive in Lviv (-/-/D)

Start your journey arriving into Lviv, an ancient, historic city in that is quickly becoming one of the most popular tourist destinations in Ukraine, and for a good reason! With its quaint charm, cobblestone streets and , you won’t fail to be charmed by this city of love and UNESCO heritage site. Famous for its beer, coffee and chocolate, but also

for being a place where time stands still – Lviv truly is a city of a laid-back, café culture where you can pick a spot, relax, and watch the world go by…

Upon arrival to Lviv, your Cobblestone Tour Leader will meet you at the airport (look for the Cobblestone Freeway sign) and will transfer you to your hotel and help you get checked-in. After some time to unpack and rest, we will provide a guided city orientation, where we will show you around the local neighborhood and help familiarize yourself with this historic city. We will introduce you to delicious places to eat, small hideaways to grab a cup of coffee and we’ll make sure you know where to find ATMs, bottled water and all the things you might want. This evening, we will take you to a traditional welcome dinner at one of the best restaurants downtown. Day 2 | Thursday, July 28: Lviv (B/L/-) After breakfast at the hotel, it’s time to see Lviv! We’ll discover its history and charm as we ride the retro train on a city tour. We’ll see this picturesque city that’s been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and get a glimpse of some of Lviv’s most famous attractions.

After lunch, we will continue discovering picturesque Lviv on a walking city tour, which will give you a better understanding of the city history and vibe. The city tour will show you around authentic sights, numerous cathedrals and making you completely fall in love with Lviv’s enigmatic atmosphere.

The rest of the day is yours to enjoy – we suggest you climb to the highest point in Lviv – the High Castle Hill and enjoy the panoramic view of this beautiful сity at the set of sun!

Day 3 | Friday, July 29: Lviv – Kornalovychi – Lviv (B/-/D) After breakfast at the hotel, we will travel to Kornalovychi to visit “Native House” orphanage ( orphanage). Spent the day in Kornalovychi orphanage – get to know each other and lead sessions with children. (CYMK is working out the details). In the evening, return to Lviv. Dinner in one of the restaurants in the city center.

Day 4 | Saturday, July 30: Lviv – Kornalovychi – Lviv (B/-/D) After breakfast at the hotel, we will have another outreach to the orphanage in Kornalovychi. Day in Kornalovychi orphanage (CYMK is working out the details). Return to Lviv in the evening. Dinner in one of the restaurants in the city center.

Day 5 | Sunday, July 31: Lviv – – Ternopil (B/-/D) In the morning, to plunge into spiritual side of Lviv, we will visit The Dormition , a Ukrainian Orthodox church and also one of the most recognizable symbols of the . It is its silhouette that can be frequently seen on the postcards with city views. It consists of three splendid medieval buildings: the church, the bell tower, known as Kornyakt’s Tower, and the Chapel of Three Prelates. Each of them is a true gem of Lviv .

Afterwards, we’ll get back to the hotel to check out, and then we will travel to the next city on our itinerary – Ternopil.

On our way, we’ll stop to visit , the oldest building in western Ukraine, and one of the best-known castles that had been reconstructed from ruin. For over six centuries, the castle has been soaring on a 164-feet high hill, protecting memories of crucial historical events that it had witnessed and participated in. The castle is a great example of the fortification architecture and you will uncover many secrets of the past, exploring its territory.

Arrive to Ternopil in the late afternoon. After check in to hotel in the heart of the city, we will show you around during the brief city orientation and treat you with a dinner in a restaurant with traditional Ukrainian cuisine. Remainder of the evening at leisure.

Day 6 | Monday, August 1: Ternopil (B/L/-)

Ternopil is one of the largest cities of western Ukraine, located in its

heart and having the status of an important trade center. It is a quiet, incredibly green city with a unique atmosphere, bright history and many interesting natural, historical and architectural sights. It is famous for its Borshchiv embroidery technique – a very dark colored floral pattern, but also for the incredible “Optimistic” Cave network – over 265km long! Discover more about the rich history, culture and

myths of this unassuming city.

After breakfast at the hotel, you’ll have time to relax and unwind in this quaint city – a place with a bright history and a plethora of interesting natural, historical and architectural sights. We will take you on a walking city tour of Ternopil - walk around the old city centre, visit artificial pond, local castle that used to be a residence of Polish nobles and beautiful Dominican Cathedral.

During the tour, we will also discover Ternopil culture in the Museum of Regional Ethnography. Ternopil region is famous for its absolutely unique Borshchiv embroidery technique – dark colored floral patterns. The numerous collections of decorative and applied arts are the subject of the museum’s pride. Despite of folk clothes and embroidery, the museum includes ceramics and textile, leather and wooden exhibits.

Once the tour of the city and the museum is over, we’ll take you for lunch in one of the local restaurants with delicious food.

Take the evening for your leisure and explore Ternopil on your own. You may choose to go for a stroll in the city park, which will lead you to the town lake, offering great views all around, and fantastic vistas of the area. Your Tour Leader will accompany you there, if necessary, or provide other options of activities in evening Ternopil.

Day 7 | Tuesday, August 2: Carpathian Mountains (B/L/-)

The beautiful Carpathian Mountains are home to sweeping green forests, flowing rivers and breath-taking waterfalls – it’s hard not to feel at-one with nature when you breathe in the fresh mountain air...This is the land of the Hutsuls, , and other native ethnical groups whose colourful folk culture is laced through thin villages stretching along wide

valley floors.

After breakfast at the hotel and checkout, we will travel to the mesmerizing and majestic Carpathian Mountains.

On the way, we will stop for a brief tour in spiritual center of Zarvanytsia, which is called "Ukrainian Jerusalem". It is the destination of an annual youth pilgrimage and numerous eparchial pilgrimages from the farthest corners of Ukraine and Ukrainian parishes abroad. The unique complex of religious buildings of the Holy Land includes a copy of the Holy Sepulchre, Golgotha, Garden of Olives, of Repentance, the Lion gate and the Tower of David.

The Marian Spiritual Centre in Zarvanytsia in the Ternopil region is well known not only in Ukraine but also beyond its borders due to its miraculous of the Mother of God. Its history is connected to the story of a Kyivan monk who survived the devastating Mongol invasion of 1240, having found safe refuge here in Zarvanytsia, and who in a dream saw an image of the Virgin holding the baby Jesus in her arms. In 1867 Pius IX crowned the icon and granted Zarvanytsia its status as a significant pilgrimage site. Since then, thousands of pilgrims have visited this holy place. We’ll have the guided tour of the place.

Next on our way, we will stop in a quaint little town called . Here, we will visit the world’s only (Easter Egg) Museum, which houses a unique and rich collection of specimens of the ancient art - about 12,000 Easter Eggs from different regions of Ukraine and from artists around the world. This two-story building even looks like a large Easter egg!

After lunch in Kolomyia, we’ll drive further into the Carpathians, to a place called Kosiv. We’ll get you checked into your hotel and let you enjoy the evening at leisure - wander around the grounds of our hotel, swim in the pool, or simply enjoy the stunning views of the mountains. You will be able to have dinner in the hotel (not included)

Day 8 | Wednesday, August 3: Carpathian Mountains (B/L/-) In the morning after breakfast, we will visit famous Kosiv Arts College, where you’ll see how the future artisans are taught. Be amazed by the woodcarving, pottery, weaving and embroidery works you’ll see there and even try yourself in one of the arts during a workshop!

We will then drive to the picturesque village of Kryvorivnya, a popular resting place and a source of inspiration for Ukrainian writers, historians and other prominent figures of Ukrainian science and culture. Here, we’ll see the traditional house-fortress – Hutsul Grazhda (‘Fortress’), where famous “Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors” movie was filmed and that is a museum now and has a lot of artefacts representing the local way of life. Feel the true Hutsul atmosphere and observe how the household of our ancestors looked like.

After that, visit an ancient wooden Hutsul church - Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin - that dates to the 18th century, and trust us, the location is stunning too. This one is made in Hutsul style and definitely has some of the Hutsul magic as they always put their spirit in their work. The peculiarity of this church lies in the fact that during these three centuries, in spite of everything, it has never been closed. Get acquainted with the local priest who will tell you the history of this church on a tour of the place. Return to Kosiv, evening at your leisure.

Day 9 | Thursday, August 4: Carpathian Mountains (B/L/-) Breakfast at the hotel and it’s time to do some ‘community-based’ work. Take part in the community river cleanup, during which we will spend part of a day removing trash from the riverbank and nearby lands of the Rybnytsia river and taking it to a central location for recycling and proper disposal. Be safe, have fun and get dirty!

Afterwards, we will travel to Pistyn, small town, that according to the legend was founded by the monks. Here we will visit the oldest Hutsul wooden church (Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin) in the region, which is present by miracle and located in the picturesque place on the island surrounded by river and forests. Built in 1600, it is surrounded by the remains of stone walls, which were built to protect the shrine from Tatar invasions. After the tour of the church we will head to the top of the hill, past the stations of the Cross Road.

Moving forward, we will enjoy the best of traditional Hutsul cuisine at a local restaurant overlooking the river. There you can also observe the local waterfalls, cool off with your feet in the water, or even go for a swim. Return to Kosiv, evening at leisure.

Day 10 | Friday, August 5: Carpathian Mountains (B/L/-) Early in the morning, we will set off for another adventure, and a truly unique experience - today we will climb Mount Hoverla – Ukraine’s highest mountain.

On our drive, you will learn legends, traditions and history of the region, including that of some locals heroes, such as Oleksa Dovbush – a Ukrainian Robin Hood, who would take from the rich and give to the poor, who together with his merry-men - Opryshky, had to live the lives of outcasts, hiding out high in the mountains while leading an opposition movement. Climb to the very top of Hoverla, and wave the Ukrainian flag high above the land – feel the strength and pride of all Ukrainian people, and get a bird’s eye view of this beautiful land! Lunch on the top of the mountain (packed beforehand).

After, walk down and transfer back to the hotel. Day 11 | Saturday, August 6: Carpathian Mountains (B/L/-) After an early breakfast at the hotel, we’ll head to explore and shop at the famous Kosiv Crafts Market. Once a week, vendors and artisans from the area get together to buy and sell art supplies, embroidery, antique stuff, food, and even animals! Even if you don’t buy something (which is quite unlikely) – it’s a real experience!

We will then travel higher to the mountains and our first stop is in village of , where we will see how traditional local woolen blankets, “lizhnyky”, are made in the same tradition passed down from generation to generation. Try out making some – if not, do not hesitate to buy – you’ll definitely need one for cold winters!

Afterwards, we have the unique opportunity to experience world-famous Ukrainian hospitality and traditions, as we invite you to a Hutsul family home in a Carpathian ‘village above the clouds’. Here you’ll get together with a local family, experience some local traditions that Hutsul people preserve and pass from one generation to another, and enjoy a delicious home cooked meal sitting around bonfire – Hutsul Vatra! Live music, delicious homemade food, and golden-root are the highlights of the day that will keep your soul and body forever young. You will make memories which last a lifetime!

Day 12 | Sunday, August 7: Kosiv – Bukova – Lviv (B/L/-) Today it’s time to wave farewell to the beautiful Carpathian Mountains and set off back for Lviv. On our way, we’ll stop in Bukova village pay a visit to the local orphanage for more sessions with children (CYMK is working out the details). Lunch during the visit. Arriving to Lviv in the evening, check-in. Dinner in the hotel’s restaurant. Remainder of the evening at leisure.

Day 13 | Monday, August 8: Lviv – Bukova – Lviv (B/L/-) After breakfast at the hotel, we will travel to Bukova orpahange for another visit. Day in Bukova orphanage (CYMK is working out the details). Lunch during the visit. Remainder of the evening at leisure. Day 14 | Tuesday, August 9: Lviv (B/-/D) Breakfast at the hotel. Enjoy a free day at your leisure. Take the opportunity to visit one of Lviv’s many fascinating sights!

We suggest visiting the local souvenir market or see the grand Opera House. You can also visit weapon museum located in former City Arsenal, admire antique sacral artworks in The National Museum or enjoy unique and remarkable collection of traditional objects of national culture and folk arts and crafts of Ukrainian people in Ethnographical Museum. Moreover, there are some others places, which are worth visiting like Lviv art gallery, Museum of Sacred Art, Opera house, Glass Museum, ‘Under the Black Eagle’.

In the evening, to wrap up your stay in Ukraine, we will get together for a farewell dinner with live folk band music in one of our favorite restaurants in the city.

Day 15 | Wednesday, August 10: Lviv Departure (B/-/-) After a free morning to stock up souvenirs, we will transfer you to the airport where, sadly, we will have to say our goodbyes! Day 1 | Wednesday, August 10: Lviv - Kyiv (B/-/D)

Welcome to the beautiful ancient Kyiv! The of Ukraine, and the former capital of the Kyivan Rus, this beautiful and historic city has played a key part in the past, present and future of this country... Explore its Golden Domed streets,

visit open air museums, talk with the locals, and get a feel for this unique, cosmopolitan city at the heart of Ukraine.

After breakfast at the hotel and some free time, we will check out from the hotel and get transferred to the train station. There we will catch a high-speed intercity train and travel to Kyiv! Upon arrival and check in to your centrally located hotel, we will show you around and give you a bunch of local insider information on the best souvenir stores, local restaurants with the most delicious food, and show you places for shopping! Dinner in one of our favorite restaurants with delicious traditional Ukrainian food.

Day 2 | Thursday, August 11: Kyiv (B/L/-) After breakfast at the hotel, it’s time to discover Kyiv! We’ll embark on a combined city tour (bus & walking) to explore the ‘heart’ of Kyiv: Independence Square, better known as Maidan. This is the place which has changed history, where the and Revolution of Dignity happened and we’ll learn about each of these important moments. Next, we will see some of Kyiv’s most iconic sites, such as St. ’s Cathedral, the Golden Gates of Kyiv, St. Michael’s and St. Sophia’s Cathedrals – places which date back to the 10th century! Travelers from Ukraine and abroad come to this pilgrimage place to see 1000-year-old frescoes and mosaics and feel the spirit of tradition.

Once the tour of Kyiv is over, we’ll have lunch and then enjoy some souvenir-shopping at Andriyivsky Uzviz. It is the winding street that’s home to the city’s artisans, craftsmen and vendors. Explore all kinds of items on their stalls, from souvenir trinkets to authentic costumes, and antiques!

Remainder of the evening at leisure. We suggest you enjoy the sunset while strolling to the new pedestrian glass bridge that offers impressive views of the center of the Ukrainian capital and the Dnieper River. Your Tour Leader will provide options of nice restaurants for dinner.

Day 3 | Friday, August 12: Kyiv (B/-/D) After breakfast at the hotel, we will keep exploring Kyiv and its complicated history. First, we will visit museum. Here we will pay our respects to those who suffered one of the most terrible crimes against the Ukrainian nation: famine. Learn about the tragedy at the museum before walking around the memorial park, and taking a moment to reflect at the monument.

Afterwards, we’ll visit a world famous historical and architectural landmark, and one of Ukraine’s most important Christian sites: the Pecherska Lavra Cave Monastery, a true Mecca for all Christians. The monastery complex is considered a separate national historical-cultural sanctuary, where you could visit the caves and feel the spirit of antique. Enjoy the guided tour, taking you down into the candlelit, underground labyrinths filled with the relics and ancient mummified monks – intriguing to say the least!

Next, we will visit one of the largest museums in Ukraine - WW2 museum (over 300 thousand exhibits). This place tells about heroism, valor, sacrifice, and tragedy of the people of Ukraine during the Second World War. It highlights the global events of the war and detached historical facts.

After the tour of the museum, we’ll return downtown where you have some free time to relax and freshen up a but before our evening Zabava! This evening, we will get together for a goodbye dinner (included), featuring a live music performance from a folk band that promotes and preserves authentic Central Ukrainian singing.

Day 4 | Saturday, August 13: Kyiv (B/-/-) Breakfast at the hotel and checkout. We will transfer you to the airport where, sadly, we will have to say our goodbyes! Thank you for traveling with Cobblestone Freeway!
