A popular TV Wednesday 12:00 show undertakes to re-vamp decrepit hotels in a blitz fashion and then air the results. -
1953 Hudson Cars Described
1953 HUDSON CARS DESCRIBED 1953 HUDSON - GENERAL: A downsized Hudson arrived this year, called the Hudson Jet. It had styling that would be mimicked by the rest of the line in 1954. Gone was the Pacemaker. with its nameplate replaced by a new, lower level Wasp. The upper level Wasp, called the "Super Wasp," and it moved into the former Commodore 6 slot that now disappeared. The Hornet finally supplanted the Commodore 8 completely. The nameplate was retired, putting the 8-cylinder powerplant out to pasture. That L-head I-8, having served twenty long years from 1932 until 1952, was gone. The consolidation of lines and the removal of the Commodore Six and Eight allowed for less tooling in the Wasp-Hornet lines and should have saved money. The problem was that production kept dropping even though the cars were considered popular. The issue at hand was dated styling and the lack of an OHV V-8. At the root of the lower production was Hudson's lack of investment dollars when that trend to V8s and more modern styling was pulling the Big Three away from all other competition. Worse, a good deal the sales problems were the result of Hudson misreading their audience and thinking that these changes weren't needed. Even with the introduction of the Jet, production dropped. And Hudson's racing victories, that outshone all rivals, while earning respect for the brand, did not entice buyers into the showrooms. INNOVATIONS: The Hudson Jet, a smaller, more economical model, was introduced. It was an attempt to drop into the lower price market to pick up sales. -

With a bit of luck and better than expected sales for model year 1954, Hudson Motor now merged into American Motor with Nash was now setting up the outline of a fine new set of Motorcars. The Hudson Jet was removed from the line-up at the end of model year 1954, and the assembly facilities where transfered to Rambler. Rambler and Nash filling the lower and mid-price ranges have also posted impressive gains and the whole line of senior Nash and Hudson cars will be sporting new design for the 1959 model year.. -

After driving up a rather steep little side road, you park your car near the Visitor's Center, where you can tour a small museum with exhibits about the cowboy-comic (containing busts, photos, a scale model of his home, etc.). You may also watch a short film here about his life & times. A free "audio wand" will help lead you on a self-guided tour of the large estate, with "listening posts" located throughout the estate. On the south side of the parking lot is the broad green lawn of a regulation-size Polo Field. Will Rogers was an avid polo buff, and the field is still used today on Saturdays for colorful polo matches. Meet at noon in parking area; bring your picnic lunch / share if you want; we'll eat & socialize til 2:00 when we join up with others for a docent-led tour of the grounds and house. Please note the $7.00 per car entry fee, so grab your chapter buddies and see how many people you really can fit in a Hudson. This site is targeted for shutdown by our governator, so we want to enjoy this place before it gets padlocked. -
