Mr. Howe, who is the highly effective editor of the Society's Bulletin, has been resourceful in his research and engaging in his presentation of his findings. Many a genealogical clue has been fol lowed to the point where an important discovery concerning persons or events was possible. Yet Mr. Howe is insistent that there are still loose ends in his study; for the absence of records can thwart the most determined chronicler. The story of the Wood family, from the days of the restless Puri tans in Yorkshire to the present era in Westchester, is richly furnished with exciting incidents and worthy achievements. The Tory an cestor during the American Revolution, who migrated to Nova Scotia and there built for himself a new life, is typical of many per sons in Westchester, who could not follow the signers of the Declara tion of Independence in their decision to break allegiance ro the British Empire. In the case of the Wood family the conflicting theories of empire brought a break in family ties during those troub lous years; and the task of the family historian was thus made much more difficult. -

GENERAL SITE DESCRIPTION a. Scope The purpose of this analysis is to examine the impact on stormwater quantity and quality with the filling and stockpiling of material on the 27.8 ± acre parcel located at the end of Continental Street in the Village of Sleepy Hollow, New York. Development at the site will include disturbance of 6.0± total acres of the previously developed parcel. b. Existing Conditions The site is now vacant land. It was previously developed with a parking area and auxiliary buildings. The existing buildings have been demolished but the paved areas remain. There are currently piles of stockpiled material around the site that will be removed prior to the activity proposed and described in this report. The site where the material is to be stockpiled is currently classified as urban land and Riverhead loam on steep slope as outlined by the Westchester County Soils Survey. The site is located partially within the 100 year flood plain and flood way and is completely tributary to the Pocantico River via existing drainage culverts and overland flow. In the Existing Condition the project site is divided into two surface types (impervious pavements and wooded steep slopes). No activity is proposed in the flood way or on the steep slopes. The following soils can be found on the property based on the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Natural Resource Conservation Service Soil Survey of Putnam and Westchester Counties, New York (See Figure 1). -

Fernald and Helena Andreyko Editors A Joint Program of The Hudson River Foundation and The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation December 2015 ABSTRACT Eight studies were conducted within the Hudson River Estuary under the auspices of the Tibor T. Polgar Fellowship Program during 2013. 5 IMPLEMENTATION Implementation of the Hudson River Valley Greenway Trail Is an Ongoing Process
5 IMPLEMENTATION Implementation of the Hudson River Valley Greenway Trail is an ongoing process. The existing hiking, biking and water trail routes can continue to be improved and promoted, while the multi-use path will require a significant level of new planning, design and capital investment. In the past 25 years, the Greenway has developed grass-roots and local government support for these efforts, providing an excellent foundation for the next generation of the trail system. The following actions are recommended for the ongoing success of the HRVG: 1. Continue promoting the Water Trail: this is the most direct connection to the river, and can be marketed without significant capital improvements to promote the whole Greenway. 2. Upgrade the existing Hiking Trails: The continuous hiking trail can be achieved with alignments closer to the river - and many of these key connections are already in progress. With the new TZ bridge path and the Walkway over the Hudson, a loop hiking trail can connect both sides of the river in the lower half of the valley. 3. Improve the on-road Bike Routes: the currently signed NYS Bike Route 9 is a challenging route and is limited to experienced cyclists. Improving signage, paved shoulders, bike lanes, bike parking and Amtrak access will all support increased use along the route. Both the PTNY and West Side routes are not currently designated, but they can be improved to create on-road routes on both sides of the river. 4. Develop the continuous Hudson River Valley Greenway Trail trunk line: the efforts of the past decades have led to significant new potential to create a continuous multi-use path the length of the Hudson River Valley from Manhattan to the Adirondacks. -

COMMUNITY REDEVELOPMENT VISION FORMER BEECH-NUT FACILITY, VILLAGE OF CANAJOHARIE, NY MARCH 2018 INTRODUCTION Site facts The former Beech-Nut facility sits in the heart of the Village of • 27 acres, 35 structures Canajoharie, a quaint town on the Mohawk River in New York. • Downtown Canajoharie, NY Imperial Packing Company started operations on the site in 1891. Imperial grew the business selling vacuum-packed hams • Access to I-90 Thruway, Route 10 and Route 5 using the adjacent Erie Canal, and the founders invested in the • Former food production facility Village as the industry grew. The facilities expanded rapidly • Located adjacent to the Mohawk River when Beech-Nut began producing a growing number of food products including chewing gum, coffee, baby food and more. For decades, Beech-Nut’s thriving operations provided jobs, community support, significant tax revenue and a sense of identity for the Village. Since the former Beech-Nut facility closed in 2010, the property has remained inactive and many of the 35 vacant buildings have fallen into disrepair. The Village and Montgomery County foreclosed on the property in 2017, creating the opportunity to begin visioning and planning for redevelopment of the iconic site encompassing 27 acres. During 2017, the EPA Superfund Redevelopment Initiative (SRI) provided reuse planning assistance to engage the community in developing a redevelopment vision for the site. The SRI team has worked with Montgomery County Erie Canal and Beech-Nut factory ca. early 1900’s. and the Village of Canajoharie to facilitate reuse discussions with local stakeholders including the Village of Canajoharie administrators, the Exit 29 Task Force, the Montgomery County Executive office, and local business owners. -

Our approach is simple—we are strengthening our commitment to protect New York State’s vast natural resources while seeking compelling ways for people to enjoy the great outdoors in a socially and environmentally responsible manner. The result is sustainable economic activity based on a sincere appreciation of our state’s natural resources and the values they provide. We invite New Yorkers and visitors alike to enjoy our high-quality water resources. New York is blessed with fisheries resources across the state. Every day, we manage and protect these fisheries with an eye to the future. To date, New York has made substantial investments in our fishing access sites to ensure that boaters and anglers have safe and well-maintained parking areas, access points, and boat launch sites. In addition, we are currently investing an additional $3.2 million in waterway access in 2019, including: • New or renovated boat launch sites on Cayuga, Oneida, and Otisco lakes • Upgrades to existing launch sites on Cranberry Lake, Delaware River, Lake Placid, Lake Champlain, Lake Ontario, Chautauqua Lake and Fourth Lake. New York continues to improve and modernize our fish hatcheries. As Governor, I have committed $17 million to hatchery improvements.
