Like most bands before the 2020 pandemic hit, Strip Mall was playing shows and getting their sound out to Providence locals in anticipation of a new EP estimated to come out in the fall. Strip Mall is a newer PVD-based emo band out of Warwick, Rhode Island. The band consists of three members: Vinnie Ortez, Jack Anderson and Nick English.

Take a moment to consider how you feel right here, right now. Tired is not an emotion just in case that’s your first thought. Psychologists would say that we can feel: happy, sad, surprised, afraid, disgusted, or angry. Hopefully not many of us are angry or disgusted at the moment, but it’s fascinating that our range of emotions isn’t as expansive as we may assume. When I was doing Clinical Pastoral Education, we had to identify our feelings using only four emotions: glad, sad, bad, or mad. Those were our only choices—and we were expected as chaplains to identify how we felt before and after every interaction with patients. Glad, sad, bad, or mad and ask ourselves why did we feel that way. If we had to identify John the Baptist’s emotional state as we just heard in the Gospel of Luke it would be mad. I don’t know about you, but I don’t typically call folks “broods of vipers” when I’m feeling glad. John was legitimately mad—people were being terrible to each other and life was difficult enough without people making each other’s lives even worse. He’s out there in the wilderness telling people to take better care of one other, what’s wrong with you people?! If you have two coats, share with someone who doesn’t have a coat at all.

Fans who have the live Stephen Bailey Cultural footage from the Houston, Austin, Knoxville, Chicago and Exchange Atlanta shows will have most of the material here, but it is the way that this DVD is Alt.Culture Guide thrown together that makes it unique. One Base On An One of the best editing jobs I have ever seen in a punk video was a release called "Along Overthrow MP3 Blog The Way" featuring BAD RELIGION, shot by a few Germans who followed the band Joe Evans III: Man Of around on a European tour. The tight editing of "Along The Way" showed multiple Infirmity Blog camera angles from multiple shows, but all synched perfectly to one live audio track; if you didn't notice the stages changing or the differen t-shirts on the band members, you would not have noticed it wasn't one seamlessly edited performance. The same can be said for "The Best Of GG Allin and The Murder Junkies", where gems from GG's early career like "Bite It You Scum" and "I Wanna Rape You" are performed live alongside his later MJ material like "Kill The Police" and "Look Into My Eyes & Hate Me" to a seamless if fuzzy live audio track, while the edited images of the songs being performed can include footage from 6 or so live shows.

You might say that punk has played a pivotal role in my life. Needless to say, I have also seen a great deal of media misrepresentation over the years. I completely agree with Craig O’Hara’s perception when he states in his fine introduction to American punk rock, self-explanatorily entitled The Philosophy of Punk: More than Noise, that “Punk has been characterized as a self-destructive, violence oriented fad [...] which had no real significance.” (1999: 43.) He quotes Larry Zbach of Maximum RockNRoll, one of the better known international punk fanzines1, who speaks of “repeated media distortion” which has lead to a situation wherein “more and more people adopt the appearance of Punk [but] have less and less of an idea of its content.
