2013-11-26 13:15 CET THE NATIONAL AND QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE ARE CONFIRMED FOR NORTHSIDE THE POPULAR AMERICANS ARE ADDED TO THE LINE-UP FOR THE DANISH FESTIVAL ALONG WITH FRANZ FERDINAND, LUCY LOVE, AND TURBOWEEKEND The National are an exceptional band in every way. Composed of two sets of brothers in the shape of Aaron and Bryce Dessner and Bryan and Scott Devendorf as well as front man Matt Berninger, the band have released albums on their own terms since 2001, which slowly but surely have transferred them from critics’ favourites to superstars. With “Boxer”, The National found their own audience, which has grown in pace with the following releases “High Violet” and most recently “Trouble Will Find Me”. In Denmark, their popularity has risen not least due to their concerts, in which The National walk the tightrope between the dark and introverted and the aggressive and forward with an elegance, which is worthy of a tightrope walker. The National was one of the most popular band wishes for NorthSide 2014 and we are really looking forward to meet them in Ådalen. QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE Josh Homme from Queens of the Stone Age is always working on at least five different projects, so when he’s not playing with Eagles of Death Metal or Them Crooked Vultures, he’s off producing records for Arctic Monkeys or working with UNKLE, Biffy Clyro, or The Strokes. But he is never better than when he is in front of his own band, who can be experienced for the first time at NorthSide this summer. Since 1998, Queens of the Stone Age have released insanely strong records, which despite a raw sound and aggressive riffs always have catchy melodies, which are begging for a sing-along. The latest example is the album “…Like Clockwork”, where the heavy desert rock is presented at sharply as ever. The beautiful surroundings in the NorthSide-valley are pretty far away from the Californian desert, but we’re pretty sure that Josh Homme and his comrades will fit in perfectly once they face the NorthSide crowd. FRANZ FERDINAND Since the release of the phenomenal single “Take Me Out” Franz Ferdinand have been promoters of sharp and dance-friendly indie, and hits like ”Do You Want To” and ”No You Girls” have cemented their status as one of the best British acts of the last ten years. During the course of their career they’ve experimented with African beats and dub-remixes, but on their latest record, “Right Thoughts, Right Words, Right Action”, they have with great success returned to the virtues that made them stars in 2004. Songs like “Evil Eye” and “Right Action” are classic Franz Ferdinand tracks, and it will be pure pleasure to hear the new songs mixed with the classics at NorthSide 2014. LUCY LOVE Lucy Love’s musical career really escalated in 2009. At the beginning of the year, they were awarded the P3 Experiment award and in the following month, they released their debut album “Superbillion”, which was praised for updating Danish hiphop both authentically and personally. On their most recent release “Desperate Days Of Dynamite”, in which song, to a greater extent than previously, is mixed with rap without reducing the intensity of the songs. Or as GAFFA’s reviewer put it: “Love is no longer an ignited stick of dynamite […], but more like cool nitroglycerine. Still menacing and explosive even if it’s in a more sophisticated manner”. We look forward to explode with Lucy Love when the audacious duo play at NorthSide 2014. TURBOWEEKEND Not many Danish bands have as good a hold of the NorthSide audience as Turboweekend. They are a fantastic live band, but it’s as if they give it that little bit extra when they walk on stage in Ådalen, which has provided some memorable concerts throughout the years. During the autumn, the band have performed very impressively on a tour, which included reinterpretations of some of their biggest hits at a number of toned-down concerts which received brilliant reviews both GAFFA and Soundvenue, but you can expect Turboweekend to return to NorthSide next summer with the same energy that we know and love them for. Thus, the line-up for NorthSide so far: Ane Brun, Arcade Fire, Franz Ferdinand, Lucy Love, Mew, The National, Quadron, Queens of the Stone Age, and Turboweekend. NorthSide 2014 can be experienced in Aarhus, Denmark on the 13th-15th of June, and tickets are available at Billetlugen.dk.
