Woza, Albert!

“Woza! Albert” is a journey that the Matric Drama class of 2019 embarked on, on the 27th of February. They went in blind, having no previous knowledge of what the play entailed. Not only did they leave with goosebumps and an eagerness to discuss the play with one another, they left with a heavy feeling of realisation. The two actors had done something they had never seen before. They took a part of our grim history and added a comedic twist while still maintaining character, concentration, energy and awareness of their surroundings and of one another. The matrics left not only learning more about Apartheid, but also with how one can create an entire play with only two actors and a few ambiguous props.” 5 Stellenberg High School Newsletter • March/April 2019

Graad 8-braai

The night was a success and a foreshadowing of what is to come. They are a grade which shows excitement for everything they get to take part in, and they are constantly making the school proud! We would like to wish all the grade 8’s the best of luck with their first high school exam. Hou so aan en onthou: hand in hand our fire will expand.

Durbanville-uitruil

The fun activities included musical chairs, a lip sync battle, debating, karaoke and hand tennis. The eco committee organized a litter run around the school to pick up trash, and the community service committee organized to make 100 hotdogs which they donated to a local charity organization, Shiloh.

LAN evening

The LAN evening, which is an event hosted by the SRC members once a year where gamers game throughout the evening, took place on 1 March in the activity centre. It was enjoyed by all attendees who played PC / Xbox games, watching series or watching YouTube videos. It was an evening of interaction where attendees not only had access to open WiFi, but were also treated to pizza. Gaming has become very popular among our learners and we look forward to a growing activity. 11 Stellenberg High School Newsletter • March/April 2019 Of all the paths you take in life, make sure a

Rustenburg Championship U/16 Girls The true test had arrived. A mini 25 minute per match “slugout “ with some of the the top Western and Eastern Cape Schools. To date our u/16A team has been unbeaten in all friendly matches and tournaments, but, it need be added, against weaker opposition. Many of the schools also used their u/16 first team players. The Championship, run over 3 days, would pit us against schools, many, that are in our league this year. Friday kicked off with a hard-fought 2-0 win over Wynberg. Next was a 1-0 loss to Springfield albeit a somewhat contentious issue in which our girls deserved, at worst, a draw. Saturday was to be a long day with varied results: a 3-0 win against , 3-0 loss to eventual Championship winners DSG, 1-1 draw against Somerset College , 1-0 win against the Rustenburg Colts side and a 2-0 loss in the day’s last game against Herschell. 22 Stellenberg High School Newsletter • March/April 2019 Netball first team Player profile
