On the 28th Stellenberg’s SRC hosted Durbanville High School. Their SRC members joined us in all our classes and each member had a “buddy” to escort him/her for the day. Ons het weer op die 30ste vir hulle gaan kuier by hulle skool. Ons het in die twee dae baie geleer van hoe hulle goed doen. Dit was ‘n lekker ervaring en ons sal dit graag weer wil doen. Many friendships developed from this exchange. As a result of this experience we have gained a great deal of respect for their school and pupils. We can also honestly say that we are more than proud to call Stellenberg our home. 3 Stellenberg High School Newsletter • August 2018 Music Achievers Congratulations to the following learners who performed exceptionally well in external piano examinations recently. Jonathan competed in the Boys’ U/17 category and was victorious in all the events in his category: - 2000m individual pursuit – 1st place - 500m time trial – 1st place - 200m sprint qualifiers – 1st place - 7.5km scratch race – 1st place - 1500m race – 1st place - Match sprint – 1st place - 10km points race – 1st place Jonathan also received an award for the best U17 rider. Jonathan travelled to Assen in the Netherlands to compete in the European Junior Cycle Tour. He was selected by his club Kinetic Cycling Club to race in Assen. In this road cycling event, Jonathan competed in various events over 6 days and his results were as follows: - Day 1 – Prologue 1.7km – 45th out of 71 - Day 2 – Criterium Race 36km – 64th out of 71 - Day 3 – Classic Road Race 77.8km – 60th (Crashed out dnf) - Day 4 – Individual Time Trial 13km – 47th - Day 5 – Circuit 48km – 68th (crashed – finished) - Day 6 – Assenbos Criterium – 22.8km – 47th Overall position 62 out of 71. This was a great learning experience for Jonathan and taught him some valuable life lessons. His unfortunate crash on day 3 left his bike’s frame cracked. His mom, who travelled with the team, had to purchase a new frame for him from the local cycle-shop. They worked very hard to have his new bike prepared for the next day. Jonathan also rode the Cape Town Cycle Tour (Argus) in March earlier this year. We are proud of him. 12 Stellenberg High School Newsletter • August 2018 HOckey Boys Hockey The U/14A, U/16A and Premier Boys all convincingly won their respective leagues. The teams participated in the Town Challenge (2nd Division) and have now been promoted to the Premier League in the Western Province. Congratulations to all the boys on a phenomenal season. 13 Stellenberg High School Newsletter • August 2018 5-A-Side Stellenberg High School’s Annual Hockey 5-A-Side event took place on 19 October 2018. The tournament brought about unity and joy, as well as some insane hockey skills. The event truly exceeded all expectations. The amazing event comprised 66 matches with a whopping 21 teams participating in the event. For the first time ever, Stellenberg’s hockey 5-A-Side tournament culminated in a semi-final and a grand finale. The winners of the tournament were the “Powderpuff Girls” who powered through the tournament with ease. The best spirit and best-dressed award were presented to the “Beachy Bunch”. The tournament was held at the perfect time as the learners were about to commence with their end-of-year examinations.

30 March2017 Dear Parent/Guardian NEWSLETTER 9/17 We have reached the end of a highly successful term. So much has been achieved and we have big dreams and plans for the remainder of the year. Allow me this opportunity to thank every dedicated educator, coach and learner for their hard work and commitment. It is wonderful to see the scale of participation and the level at which we are competing now. Sport and culture have gone from strength to strength. Add to that the excellent academic results we attained last year, and you have to agree that our school is blessed with exceptional learners, educators and parents. During a recent visit by the Curro Transformation and Diversity team, we were complimented on the friendliness of our learners and staff. They noticed how learners went out of their way to greet them and to assist where they could. We also often get compliments from visitors, who work with our learners, regarding their ability to think out of the box and come up with new ideas and solutions. Schools close on Friday, 31 March at 11:00. Reports will be issued to learners on this day. Term 2 starts on Wednesday, 19 April. Educators already start on Tuesday, 18 April. Enjoy a well-deserved break with your children. May God keep you safe and may you experience a blessed Easter. STAFF MATTERS We wish to congratulate Mr Christiaan Botha who attended the North-West University of Potchefstroom’s graduation ceremony to receive his Bachelor’s Degree in Education (BEd). Congratulations to Mrs Mariëtte Viljoen whose daughter, Obie, had a baby girl earlier this week.

  • 21 April 2017 Dear Parents Welcome Back. I Trust You Have All Enjoyed
21 April 2017 Dear Parents Welcome back. I trust you have all enjoyed the longer-than-normal Easter holiday and, like your sons, are ready for the unique challenges of the second term. I addressed the boys at the last assembly of the first term, emphasising the fact that they will need to exercise all their skills of prior planning, goal-setting (in all aspects of school life) and time-management, very well. In addition, a strong work ethic will be required in order to have a fulfilling academic, sporting and cultural term, which will be disrupted by next week’s long weekend. Your sons will require strong support, as usual, from yourselves and I trust that this will be an enjoyable term for all. A large number of rugby and hockey teams represented SACS at a number of pre-season Easter festivals during the break. I wish to thank the staff and boys for sacrificing hard-earned holiday time in order to establish a solid foundation for the Winter sporting season. I am confident that these tours will prove beneficial. I also thank the parents who supported our lads across the length and breadth of our county. Messrs Peverley, Grobler, van Zyl, Barnard and Willows accompanied the hockey teams, whilst Messrs van Selm, Maurer, Wepener, O’Connor, Molnar and Southgate went to the various rugby festivals.
