Vervolg op bl. 20 DURBIES- “Dis ‘n Leefstyl” HOËRSKOOL DURBANVILLE UITGAWE 3/2017 UIT DIE KANTOOR: Geagte Ouers Met al die vakansiedae voel dit of die kwartaal sukkel om aan die gang te kom. Ons vertrou nietemin dat u en u gesin die vakansie en die tweede vakansie geniet het. Ons akademiese fokus is nou daarop om seker te maak dat al die werk wat afgehandel moet word voor die eksamen, wel betyds en deeglik gedoen sal word. Die vakansie was propvol sporttoere en soos die uitslae (verderaan) sal wys , was al die toere baie suksesvol. Ons sportspelers het die geleentheid gekry om hulle talent uit te stal en as spelers te groei. Baie dankie aan al ons afrigters wat die toere gereël en meegemaak het. Ons A-rugbyspanne het ook deelgeneem aan die Wynberg Sportfees en die voorreg gehad om teen spanne te speel teen wie ons selde die kans kry om mee te ding. Ook op hierdie fees was die uitslae nogal iets om oor huis toe te skryf. Ons weneenbedryf van 2016 ( Fragment) was vanjaar (ook tydens die vakansie) op die KKNK te sien en het wye lof ontvang vir hulle optredes. Hierdie span van ons is hard aan die voorberei vir die uitdagings van die 2017-kompetisies. Ons oueraande is pas verby. Ons glo dat u nuttige inligting kon kry t.o.v u kind se akademiese vordering. Onthou dat u te alle tye welkom is om die betrokke graadhoof te skakel om meer inligting, raad of hulp te kry. Ons jaarlikse mnr en me Durbiegeleentheid is ook afgehandel. Dit was weer eens ‘n vertoonkas vir ons talentvolle leerders. Baie geluk aan almal wat deelgeneem het. Ons bouery en verbeteringe by die skool vorder baie goed. Die klaskamers aan Vissershokkant van die skool is die vakansie baie mooi herstel en geverf en is nou weer in ‘n uitstekende toestand. Die nuwe tydelike klaskamers is opgerig : ons wag nou net om die sertikate te kry, dan kan ons intrek. Die werk aan die ou houtwerkblok vorder baie fluks en ons sien uit na ons 8 nuwe klaskamers wat daar gaan verrys. Die droogte het ons grasvelde geknou, maar ons kry dit darem stadig maar seker weer in ‘n goeie toestand. Mnr Kosie Blanckenberg het vir ons gratis mis voorsien en alhoewel dit ons bure minder vriendelik ge- 2 HOËRSKOOL DURBANVILLE UITGAWE 3/2017 UIT DIE KANTOOR: maak het, is die uitwerking daarvan baie opmerklik. Die nuwe boorgat help ook om die opgaartenks vol te kry sodat ons ons meeste besproeiing in die nag kan doen. Ons skoolsekretaresse, me Linie Wolstenholme, het aan die einde van April afgetree na 19 jaar in die tuig by die Hoërskool Durbanville. Baie dankie aan haar vir al die ekstra myle wat sy altyd bereid was om te stap. Die welsyn van die kinders was vir haar altyd van die grootste belang. Ons wens haar en haar man alles van die heel beste toe en glo dat hulle hulle aftrede op Yzerfontein sal geniet. Ons wil graag vir me Maria Viviers gelukwens met haar Goema- toekenning. Haar ongelooflike talent kon ook tydens die aanbieding van die konsert gesien word. Maria is natuurlik ook ‘n oud-student van ons en neem tans waar as onderwyser by ons skool. Me Leone Theron is nie net ‘n knap Afrikaans-onderwyser nie, sy is ook ‘n uitstekende netbalspeler en is pas in die Wes- Kaapspan opgeneem. Baie geluk : dit is ‘n besondere prestasie. Op 9 Mei word ons herfskonsert aangebied: elke jaar ‘n hoogtepunt op ons skoolkalender. Maak ‘n aantekening en kom verlustig u in ons kinders se talente. Hierdie Saterdag meet ons op die sportvelde en – bane kragte met die Hoërskool Hugenote en die netbal-,hokkie- en rugbyspelers sal in aksie wees. Ons hoop om al ons ondersteuners hier te sien. Dit is natuurlik niks nuuts nie… Hoërskool Durbanville lewer jaarliks pratige skoonhede op. Dalk is dit iets in die water… Voormalige skoonhede sluit in supermodel, Tanya Fourie,, voormalige Mej Verenigde Nasies en huidige Durbie-mamma, Ingrid Burger en meer onlangs top model, Nicola du Plessis. Leiere Falck het ook vroeër vanjaar die Wildcat Modelkompetisie gewen. Anthea Gravett was reeds vroeg vanjaar een van die FOTO: Anthea Gravett gunstelinge onder die publiek. Sy was beloon met ‘n top-10 plek en het sodoende haar kaartjie, Johan- nesburg toe, bespreek vir die finaal. Anthea het vir die beoordeelaars gewys dat sy nie net mooi van buite is nie, maar dat sy ook ‘n pragtige persoonlikheid het. Anthea loop vanjaar weg met die titel van Miss Petite Teen SA. Baie geluk Anthea, ons is trots op jou! #TrotsDurbanville 4 HOËRSKOOL DURBANVILLE UITGAWE 3/2017 DURBIE NUUS: DURBIE HAAL BARBARIANSPAN XIJON SPEEL PLEK LOS IN TOERSPAN Woensdag 6 April - Durbie speel plek los in Barbarianspan. Xijon Deacon, skrumskakel van die o/16A rugbyspan het tydens die Paarl Gimnasium Rugbytoernooi kookwater rugby gespeel en is beloon met ‘n plek in die Barbarian toerspan. Hierdie span word gekies uit al die deelnemende skole en toer later vanjaar na Frankryk. Baie geluk Xijon, ons is trots op jou! Ons ryers poog om vir die nasionale kampioenskappe, wat vanjaar weer in Mpumalanga aangebied sal word, te kwalifiseer. Die Durbies het vanjaar afgeskop deur aan die 99er fietswedren deel te neem. Die Eerste XV, o/16A, o/15A en o/14A rugbyspanne het almal oor die lang- naweek aan die Wynberg Rugby Festival deelgeneem.     21 April 2017 Dear Parents Welcome back. I trust you have all enjoyed the longer-than-normal Easter holiday and, like your sons, are ready for the unique challenges of the second term. I addressed the boys at the last assembly of the first term, emphasising the fact that they will need to exercise all their skills of prior planning, goal-setting (in all aspects of school life) and time-management, very well. In addition, a strong work ethic will be required in order to have a fulfilling academic, sporting and cultural term, which will be disrupted by next week’s long weekend. Your sons will require strong support, as usual, from yourselves and I trust that this will be an enjoyable term for all. A large number of rugby and hockey teams represented SACS at a number of pre-season Easter festivals during the break. I wish to thank the staff and boys for sacrificing hard-earned holiday time in order to establish a solid foundation for the Winter sporting season. I am confident that these tours will prove beneficial. I also thank the parents who supported our lads across the length and breadth of our county. Messrs Peverley, Grobler, van Zyl, Barnard and Willows accompanied the hockey teams, whilst Messrs van Selm, Maurer, Wepener, O’Connor, Molnar and Southgate went to the various rugby festivals. Thank you to all of them. CULTURE The year is in full swing and learners have a lot to look forward to in terms of cultural activities. Below is a list of some activities that have already started. Redenaars/Public Speaking – Ms M Davidson Terms 1, 2 and 3 Learners can participate in three different competitions, namely ATKV Redenaarskompetisie, Oppie-tong-af Competition, as well as the Radikale Redenaars competitions. Learners can enter in Afrikaans or English in the home language and additional language sections. There are also various categories in each competition. Dates of First Round for Competitions: ATKV Redenaarskompetisie: 16-18 March Oppie-tong-af Competition: 6-9 May Radikale Redenaars: 11 May Final Rounds will take place during the third term. Dates will be confirmed at a later stage and will be communicated to learners who qualify for the national finals. Practice times will be arranged and communicated to learners. Debating – Ms M Davidson Terms 1 – 4 Debating gives learners of all abilities a fun way of developing their public speaking skills. Different activities will be used to help learners with their critical thinking and confident communication. It also helps learners to become more informed about political and global affairs and provides a venue for learners to train for debating competitions, locally and nationally.
