Country Report: France 2020 Update 2020 Update Acknowledgements & Methodology The 2020 update of this report was written by Laurent Delbos and Claire Tripier at Forum réfugiés – Cosi and edited by ECRE. Forum réfugiés-Cosi wishes to thank all those individuals and organisations who shared their expertise to contribute or check the information gathered during the research. Particular thanks are owed to many Forum réfugiés-Cosi colleagues who have shared their practical experience on the right of asylum in France – which have been key to feed concrete reality-checks and observations into this report; to the two lawyers who have taken the time to share their views on the French system; to the staff of France terre d’asile, the Anafé and the UNHCR Paris office for their expert and constructive feedback provided for the initial report and finally to ECRE for its support throughout the drafting process. Forum réfugiés- Cosi would also like to thank the European Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund (AMIF) for co-financing its awareness-raising missions which allowed us to provide additional time to research and draft this report. The findings presented in this report stem from background desk research, interviews with field practitioners and lawyers, as well as feedback from French NGOs and the Paris-based UNHCR office and finally statistics shared by the French authorities. Caveat: In France, asylum policies – including reception procedures – are largely under prefectural execution. This review of practice is mostly based on observations in the departments of Ile de France, Rhône, Puy-de-Dôme, Haute- Garonne and Alpes-Maritimes. However, the conclusions presented in this report on the concrete implementation of asylum policies have been cross-checked and triangulated with observations of these practices in other regions and are supported by findings presented in other reports – be they official or drafted by civil society organisations.

How the British have made southwest France their home The Local [email protected] @thelocalfrance 6 October 2017 08:26 CEST+02:00 brits in france Share this article Photo: AFP The Nouvelle-Aquitaine region of western and southwest France is home to the most Brits of all France's regions. Here’s a breakdown of how they have made the region, or at least part of it, their home. Nouvelle-Aquitaine was recently formed when the government redrew the administrative map of France, bringing together the old regions of Aquitaine, Poitou- Charentes and Limousin. The super-region stretches from the Spanish border in the southwest up the Atlantic coast to La Rochelle and deep into central France to take in the departments of Correze and Creuse. It includes departments, that have long been associated with migrating British citizens, such as Dordogne (Dordogneshire to many), and Charente. The Numbers: There are some 39,000 British citizens living in the giant Nouvelle-Aquitaine region, a new report from French statistics agency INSEE reveals. That represents 0.7 percent of the region's overall population and means that after the Portuguese, Brits represent the second biggest community of foreigners. Those 39,000 represent 26 percent of the 150,000 Brits officially registered as living in France. That makes Nouvelle-Aquitaine the region of France that is home to the most Brits. In second place is neighbouring Occitanie, which is home to 25,500 Brits, and in third place is the greater Paris region of Ile-de-France where 19,500 Brits have set up home.

Several of the red list of threatened species of European butterflies can be found in the Midi Pyrénées. The remarkable diversity of habitats, the geology, and wide range of climatic conditions together with a rich plant life has enabled the development of such a large number of butterfly species. The Midi-Pyrénées is the largest region of France, with more than 45 000 km2 land area. It comprises 8 departments, the Ariège, Aveyron, Haute Garonne, Gers, Lot, Hautes Pyrénées, Tarn and the Tarn and Garonne. Use AQUA 2018 logo somewhere near to the title The upcoming AQUA 2018 event #We R Aquaculture, co-organised by EAS and WAS, will take place in Occitanie. This is the name given to one of the new ‘super regions’ of France, created in 2016 from the former regions of Languedoc-Roussillon and Midi-Pyrénées. Occitanie comes from the historical name of the broader region of southern France and the historic use of the Occitan language and its various dialects. Insert ‘map’ of France showing the Occitanie region in red and the location of Mpntpellier as the blue pin Its aquaculture activities cover the production of marine and freshwater fish and shellfish cultivated in the Thau lagoon, a special focus of this article. The region also produces Spirulina and more recently, other microalgae and macroalgae. Overall, France is one of Europe’s biggest aquaculture producers, with 262.012 t of production in 2015. The country has a long tradition of shellfish (216.917 t in 2015) and fish production (45.095 t in 2015). It was also the location of one of the precursors of the marine production sector, developing hatchery techniques for marine species, although production of market-size marine fish was just 4.567 t in 2015.
