  • Monmouthshire Meadows
Monmouthshire Meadows Issue 16 Registered Charity No.1111345 Spring 2012 Our aims are to conserve and enhance the landscape by enabling members to maintain, manage and restore their semi-natural grasslands and associated features Trevor Evans receives an MBE The MMG Committee is delighted that our President, Trevor Evans, was mentioned in the New Year Honours list. He received a well-deserved M.B.E. for services to wildlife conservation. For 40 years Trevor has been Monmouthshire vice-county recorder (vice-county 35 is similar to the old county of Gwent with a few minor differences) for the Botanical Society of the British Isles and in his early 80’s he wrote the much acclaimed Flora of Monmouthshire. That book is a ‘must’ for anyone interested in plants in their local patch. His knowledge of the county and its plants is second to none, having lived most of his life in Chepstow where he taught for many years at the secondary school. Congratulations Trevor! Photo: Ann Robinson From the Chair The grant from Environment Wales for travel costs involved in survey work and for a bilingual report of our surveys on members’ land has kept us busy. During the late summer Glynis Laws, Maggie Biss, Sheelagh Kerry and I carried out surveys and entered all these as well as more historical data dating back as far as 2003 onto a database. Analysis of these data formed the basis for the Environment Wales report, a copy of which now on the website. Highlights of the surveys are coming across ‘new’ species-rich meadows and pastures.

The New Times June and July 2017 The parish magazine of Llantilio Crossenny, Llanvetherine, Llanvapley and Penrhos Find out why Alice and Jonny, Shirley and David and Jeanette and Revd. Heidi are all smiling From The Vicarage Last month I wrote a little something about the gift of marriage, and the privilege of officiating at weddings. How wonderful it is then to share with you the news that we will very soon be witnessing the marriage of our churchwarden Mrs Tricia Luxmoore and her fiancé Mr. Chris Wilding. Tricia has been instrumental in overseeing the renovations of St. Teilo’s in recent years, working tirelessly behind the scenes, applying for various grants and faculties; and ensuring the fabric of the church is in good repair. Tricia is also trained as a lay minister, and I know how grateful we all are, not only for Tricia’s ministry among us now, but also for her readiness to lead and assist during our services. Many congratulations on your engagement to Chris, and very best wishes to you both for your future together. Llongyfarchiadau! or ‘Congratulations’ to Jeanette Massochi who will be honoured at the Anglesey National Eisteddfod this summer by The Gorsedd of the Bards. Jeanette will receive the accolade for her tireless work preparing for the Monmouthshire and District National Eisteddfod, held in Abergavenny last year. Earlier this year, Jeanette was also honoured with a place on the Abergavenny town honours board in recognition of her contribution to the arts on a national level. On behalf of all of us in the church community, as well as saying “Llongyfarchiadau!”, we also say “Diolch yn fawr iawn” for all that you do to week by week to lift our hearts and souls through music as we come together to worship God.

Particulars. The hamlet of Llantilio Crossenny lies amidst unspoilt undulating countryside so typical of this part of Monmouthshire. The community is served by the surprisingly wide range of facilities at nearby Raglan (about 10 minutes away by car) including a Health centre, several general stores/mini markets, Post Office, Hotel an Inn, garage, several Churches, Gentleman's outfitters and even a Fish & Chip Shop. Although the village has a Primary School, there is a well regarded school at neighbouring Cross Ash, which is closer, being about 3 miles away. In January 2009, the Local Government Minister, Dr Brian Gibbons asked this Commission to review the electoral arrangements in each principal local authority in Wales. Dr Gibbons said: “Conducting regular reviews of the electoral arrangements in each Council in Wales is part of the Commission’s remit. The aim is to try and restore a fairly even spread of councillors across the local population. It is not about local government reorganisation. Since the last reviews were conducted new communities have been created in some areas and there have been shifts in population in others. This means that in some areas there is now an imbalance in the number of electors that councillors represent.
