The accounts consist of annual financial returns rendered by local charities to the Board of Charity commissioners for England and Wales in accordance with the provisions of sec. 61 of the Charitable Trust Act, 1853 and sec. 44 of the Charitable Trusts Amendment Act, 1855. For further information held at the Gwent Record Office on may of the charities listed below the reader is reffered to the reports of the Charity Commissioners on charities on Monmouthshire, 1819 -1837 (C.Misc.R.l) and in England and Wales, 1895 -1897 (C,Misc.R.6), and to the Index of Gwent Charities.
