This date found Carl Perkins, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis and Elvis Presley together at Sun Record’s studio in Memphis, TN. A jam session ensued which seems to have happened by pure chance. Perkins, who by this time had already met success with "Blue Suede Shoes", had come into the studio that day, accompanied by his brothers Clayton and Jay and by drummer W.S. Holland, to cut some new material, including a revamped version of an old blues song,"Matchbox". Sam Phillips, the owner of Sun Records, who wished to try to fatten this sparse rockabilly instrumentation, had brought in his latest acquisition, singer and piano man extraordinaire Jerry Lee Lewis, still unknown outside Memphis, to play piano on the Perkins session. Sometime in the early afternoon, Elvis Presley, a former Sun artist himself but now at RCA, dropped in to pay a casual visit. He was, at the time, the biggest name in show business, having hit the top of the singles charts five times, and topping the album charts twice in the preceding 12-month period. Less than four months earlier, he had appeared on The Ed Sullivan Show, pulling an unheard of 83% of the television audience, which was estimated at 55 million, the largest in history up to that time. After chatting with Philips in the control room, Presley listened to the playback of Perkins’ session, which he pronounced to be good. Then he went out into the studio and sometime later the jam session began. At some point during the session, Sun artist Johnny Cash, who had recently enjoyed a few hits on the country charts, popped in. Cowboy Jack Clement was engi - neering that day and remembers saying to himself "I think I'd be remiss not to record this" and so he did and the night became rock and roll music history. Many famous artists such as Bob Dylan recall listening to these recordings and being tremendously inspired by. “One Night in Memphis” was created in 2012 by John Mueller, well known for his long running and successful number one tribute, “Winter Dance Party, tribute to Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and the Big Bopper.” For more info, visit www.onenightinmemphis.com or www.wdpproductions.com Alex Swindle as Elvis Presley Alex Swindle is a 23 year old singer and mu - sician and a National Grand Champion and 2015 Ultimate Elvis Top Ten World Finalist from Alabama. Neil Morrow as Johnny Cash Born and raised in Anaheim California, Neil Morrow always had a unique taste in music. At an early age, Neil was not drawn to the current styles of music but the music that was coined by DJ Alan Freed as "Rock and Roll." Morrow soon began to take up the piano and guitar and learned the styles of his favorites such as Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis and Buddy Holly. But it wasn't Morrow's instrument skills that got the attention of oth - ers, it was his voice. His singing style has a familiar tone and range to everyone from Johnny Cash to Roy Orbison. After performing in many talent competitions, Neil decided to form a band and pay tribute to his favorite music of the 50's. It was sometime after Neil was approached to play piano for the nationally touring show “Buddy, Roy and Elvis.” It was soon after that Neil was brought to the front of the stage as Roy Orbison. A natural entertainer, Neil has since 2012 been featured as Johnny Cash with “One Night in Memphis” and always looks forward to the show. John Mueller as Carl Perkins John has had a successful professional acting and music career including guest roles on E! Entertainment, Ellen, Lois and Clark, Brisco County Jr. and the film Bloodline which also features two of John’s original songs but his real passion has remained with Buddy Holly, Carl Perkins and rock and roll from the 1950’s. Well known for his very successful show “Winter Dance Party,” the official and estate endorsed tribute to Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and the Big Bopper, he created “One Night in Memphis,” also known as “A Night to Remember” back in 2012 and it is another smash hit. John is proud to have performed at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with John Mellencamp, Marshall Crenshaw, Nanci Griffith, and Joe Ely to name a few.
