Seven Dimensions of Wellness In November we‘re highlighting the Social Dimension

Back in September at the Brain Fitness Fair, Dr. Larson spoke about “cognitive reserve”. She stated that although some people had all the indications on a brain scan of having declined brain health, they did not have symptoms in their every day life. Some people that have the ability to tolerate more brain change before function is affected was contributed to their “cognitive reserve.” Cognitive reserve is the idea of building up additional abilities to make up for the possibility of declining memory or thinking. Becoming or staying socially active is listed as one of the ways to build the reserve, to potentially reduce the risk of developing dementia. The interaction and feelings of connectedness that come from positive social interactions add to our well-being. Check out all of the ways to get connected socially at the Center. Join in, try something new, and know that being socially active, builds brain health! Want to learn more? Visit the Alzheimer’s Association website at: www.alz.org
