CODE OF REGULATIONS REGULATION I MEMBERSHIP

Section 1. Requirements for collegiate membership shall be to:

a. Matriculate as a college student.

b. Receive an invitation to become a New Member.

c. Fulfill all obligations for initiation.

d. Satisfy all local Panhellenic and National Panhellenic Conference requirements.

Section 2. Requirements for non-collegiate membership shall be:

The alumnae chapter shall submit to National Council, or a committee so authorized, a petition for a proposed member, signed by the alumnae chapter contact person and a collegiate chapter president if a college chapter is located in the vicinity of the alumnae chapter.

After approval by National Council, the petitioning group will be notified to invite the candidate into membership upon fulfillment of obligations for initiation.

Section 3. Admission into Delta Zeta shall be by vote of the members in good standing in the chapter in which the candidate is proposed for membership. Directions for presentation of candidates and for voting on these proposed candidates shall be provided by the College Chapter Director with the approval of National Council.

Section 4. New Member.

a. The new member education period shall continue until the new member has satisfied all local Panhellenic and National Panhellenic Conference requirements for initiation and any additional obligations adopted by Delta Zeta or until her pledgeship has been broken for cause and her pledge pin returned to the chapter. New members are subject to the same requirements for good standing as the initiated members.

b. A new member who has met all requirements for initiation, but has been unable to be initiated during the period of her pledgeship and whose pledge has expired, may be repledged in accordance with the rules governing the election of any other new member upon approval of the College Chapter Director or the National New Member Education Chairman.

3 c. When a new member transfers to another campus, she is eligible to pledge the sorority of her choice at the earliest opportunity according to the National Panhellenic Conference Unanimous Agreements. d. A new member whose college affiliation is terminated by the advice or action of the college authorities shall automatically be depledged. If a pledgeship is terminated for any other cause, such action shall have the approval of the College Chapter Director. (Refer to National Panhellenic Conference Unanimous Agreements for rules governing depledging.)

Section 5. Initiation. a. To be eligible for initiation, a new member shall complete her new member education and comply with all requirements as designated; she shall pay her total new member fee and the cost of the badge to the Chapter Treasurer prior to the initiation. b. The National Council or the National President, with the consent of the National Council, shall have the responsibility to approve, delay or prohibit the pledging or initiation of any individual. c. A new member who has met all requirements shall be initiated according to form and sign the chapter scroll. Her name shall be registered in the records of the chapter and of National Headquarters and she shall be furnished with a certificate and a membership card which entitle her to the rights and privileges of membership.

Section 6. Special Classifications of Collegiate Members. a. Affiliated Members. An initiated member who transfers to a college or university where there is a chapter of Delta Zeta may become an affiliated member upon invitation of the chapter, provided a written statement of good standing is received from National Headquarters. When she becomes an alumna, her records show her as a member of the chapter into which she was initiated. b. Undergraduate Married Members. An undergraduate married member may continue as a regular college chapter member with all accompanying privileges and obligations, or she may choose married member status without voting privileges and financial obligations at the beginning of the next regular session of school. She shall give written notification of her intention to the College Chapter Director and the Chapter President two weeks prior to the beginning of that session. c. Graduate Students. A graduate student member may be allowed the privilege of membership in any Delta Zeta chapter if approved by the College Chapter Director. 4

d. Dual Classification. An initiated member of Delta Zeta Sorority shall not pledge or initiate into any other National Panhellenic Conference group. An initiated member of any other National Panhellenic Conference group shall not be eligible for membership into Delta Zeta Sorority at any time.

Section 7. Statement of Membership Selection.

Delta Zeta is a self-perpetuating friendship organization whose members enjoy the most intimate relationship next to that of the family.

Membership in Delta Zeta is a privilege, not a right, and comes through the college chapter into the national organization.

In a national organization, the democratic principle of majority decision implies acceptance of the prevailing convictions of the national membership.

Inevitably, therefore, members of each chapter shall be acceptable to all chapters, college and alumnae, wherever such chapters exist.

It is the duty and the responsibility of the College Chapter Directors to enforce the membership policy.

In case of failure to observe these rules, it shall be the duty of the National Council to take formal action.

REGULATION II

OBLIGATIONS OF MEMBERSHIP

Section 1. Good Standing. Good standing is the fulfillment of all moral, academic, financial or other obligations required of a Delta Zeta member or chapter. Limitation of privileges for failure to meet good standing requirements shall be as prescribed in the Constitution and Code of Regulations and determined by National Council or National Convention.

Section 2. Standards of Conduct Obligations.

a. Strict compliance with all university regulations, local, state and federal laws shall be observed by all members of the Sorority.

b. All Delta Zeta members, collegiate or alumnae, shall observe all house and college or university regulations while residing in or visiting a chapter apartment, lodge or house, or attending a function given in the name of Delta Zeta.

c. Members shall be responsible for their invited guests. 5

d. The Sorority shall require and encourage the maintenance of high standards in proper living, good health habits, personal conduct and service to others through volunteer work in the chapter, college or community.

e. Members and new members of Delta Zeta shall abide by all federal, state, local, college and Sorority regulations regarding the use of alcohol.

f. Delta Zeta requires the strict observance of the property rights of her members by her members.

Section 3. Academic Obligations. It is the obligation of each member of a college chapter to strive for high academic standing and to maintain at least the basic minimum academic standards for her chapter as defined by National Council and the college or university.

Section 4. Financial Obligations. It is the duty of each member of Delta Zeta to fulfill the financial obligations as adopted by the national organization and the college and alumnae chapters.

All initiates and new members of a chapter maintaining housing shall be required to live in the house up to the capacity under the discretion of the College Chapter Director, after approval from the Regional Collegiate Director, unless prohibited by university regulations or for reasons of health or to serve as a Residential Advisor.

Section 5. Obligation of Secrecy. Each member of Delta Zeta shall be obligated to the pledge of secrecy made when initiated. All proceedings of chapter meetings shall be of secret nature and shall not be revealed.

Section 6. Term of Obligation. Obligations to the Delta Zeta Sorority shall be assumed for life. Membership is granted by National Council with the recommendation of a college chapter and such membership shall remain on all records of Delta Zeta until removed by a vote of National Council.

REGULATION III

DISCIPLINE OF MEMBERS

Section 1. Causes for Discipline. Any conduct of a member which is inconsistent with the standards and purpose of Delta Zeta Sorority or fails to meet the requirements of good standing shall be cause for discipline. Without limiting the foregoing, Delta Zeta Sorority shall recognize the following causes for discipline:

6 a. Violation of federal, state or municipal laws or regulations, or rules and regulations of the college or university which the member attends. b. Violation of any duty imposed by the Constitution or Code of Regulations of the Delta Zeta Sorority or any policies, procedures, or instructions adopted by the National Council. c. Failure to follow the instructions of a National Officer, College Chapter Director or Regional Collegiate Director or any person duly authorized by National Council. d. Violation of rules and regulations adopted by a chapter or a house corporation, failure to follow the instructions of the chapter executive board or chapter officers. e. Conduct which is prejudicial to the Sorority, tending to bring it into disrepute; obstructs the work or discipline of the chapter; or fails to uphold the standards of conduct expected of Delta Zetas, thereby offending her fellow members. f. Willful or continued failure to meet financial obligations to the chapter, House Corporation, national Sorority or college or university which she attends. g. Theft, attempted theft, unauthorized use, or attempted unauthorized use of funds or property of Delta Zeta, a chapter or a House Corporation. h. Failure to observe the obligations of secrecy of the Sorority. i. Failure to return badge when requested by an authorized Delta Zeta officer or any person duly authorized by the National Council. j. Threatening, participating or attempting to threaten or participate in any act or acts of hazing which injures, degrades, disgraces or tends to injure, degrade or disgrace any new member or initiated member. k. Possession, use, transmittal, sale, concealment or consumption of any counterfeit drugs, controlled substance, dangerous drug or drug of abuse, including, but not limited to, narcotic drugs, hallucinogenic drugs, amphetamines, barbiturates, marijuana, cocaine or other substances which would modify behavior. (This subsection does not apply to practitioners or students in the medical, nursing, pharmaceutical or health related professions who are authorized to possess and dispense drugs. Likewise, this section does not apply to any person who obtains a drug pursuant to a prescription issued by a practitioner.)

l. Flagrant and/or repeated use of profane, vulgar or abusive language or gestures.

m. Discrimination of any member based on the member’s race, religion, national origin or disability status.

Section 2. Discipline of a Collegiate Member. A collegiate member found guilty of a cause for discipline may be warned, placed on probation or suspension or dismissed from the Sorority. The degrees of discipline need not be implemented in consecutive order, but any one degree may be imposed at the time the disciplinary action is taken. The type of discipline imposed shall depend upon the severity of the incident and the charges brought against the chapter member.

a. Warning. A warning may be given and shall be used to inform the member that her actions are not consistent with the standards of conduct expected of Delta Zeta members.

b. Probation. A member may be placed on probation for failure to uphold the standards of conduct or meet the requirements of good standing expected of every member of Delta Zeta Sorority. During the probation, the member shall meet the conditions of her probation or she shall be subject to suspension or dismissal.

c. Suspension. A member may be suspended for conduct which is inconsistent with the standards and purpose of Delta Zeta Sorority or who fails to meet the requirements for good standing. During the period of her suspension, the member shall meet the conditions of her suspension or shall be subject to dismissal by the National Council. A suspension may be appealed to the National Standards Chairman pursuant to the procedural rules adopted by the National Council.

d. Dismissal. Only the National Council has the authority to dismiss a member. Upon dismissal, a member’s affiliation with the Sorority is terminated. Dismissal is imposed when the member’s conduct fails to uphold the standards of conduct expected of every member of Delta Zeta Sorority or when a member consistently fails to meet the requirements for good standing.

The degrees of discipline shall be imposed pursuant to the procedural rules adopted by the National Council.

Section 3. Any member disciplined by the college or university she attends shall automatically receive the same degree of discipline in the Sorority, pending the investigation.

Section 4. Discipline of an Alumna Member. An alumna member may be warned, placed on probation or suspension, or dismissed by National Council for just cause. Discipline shall be imposed pursuant to the procedural rules adopted by National Council.

Section 5. Right of Appeal. Any member dismissed by the National Council may have the right of appeal. She shall submit a written request to the National Standards Chairman pursuant to the procedural rules adopted by National Council.

Section 6. Right of Reinstatement. A disciplined member may request reinstatement pursuant to the procedural rules adopted by National Council. National Council may reinstate a disciplined member without a request for such action.

REGULATION IV

DISCIPLINE OF A CHAPTER

Section 1. Cause for Discipline. Any conduct of a chapter which is inconsistent with the standards and purposes of Delta Zeta Sorority or when a chapter consistently fails to meet the requirements of good standing shall be cause for discipline. The causes for discipline of a member as defined in Regulation III shall be applicable to the chapter as a whole.

Section 2. Discipline of a Chapter. A chapter may be placed on warning, probation, suspension or have its charter revoked.

a. Warning. A warning may be given and shall be used to inform the chapter that its actions are not consistent with the standards of conduct expected of Delta Zeta chapters.

b. Probation. National Council or a duly authorized representative may impose probation in accordance with the procedural rules adopted by National Council.

c. Suspension. Only National Council may impose suspension in accordance with the procedural rules it has adopted.

d. Charter Revocation. Only the National Council shall revoke the charter of a chapter in accordance with the procedural rules it has adopted.

Section 3. Right of Appeal. A disciplined chapter may submit a written request to National Council to appeal the decision pursuant to the procedural rules adopted by National Council. 9

Section 4. Right of Reinstatement. A disciplined chapter may request reinstatement pursuant to the procedural rules adopted by National Council. National Council may reinstate a disciplined chapter without a specific request.

REGULATION V

TERMINATION OF MEMBERSHIP

Section 1. Collegians. A member in good standing may request termination of her membership because of personal reasons. She shall write a letter to her College Chapter Director and to National Council in care of National Headquarters, stating the reason for her request and enclosing her badge, membership card and certificate. The College Chapter Director shall write her recommendation for the request. After determination by National Council, written notification shall be sent to the member, the college chapter and the College Chapter Director.

Section 2. Alumnae. A written request for termination of membership by an alumna shall be sent with her badge, membership card and certificate to National Headquarters. After determination by National Council, written notification shall be sent to the member by the National President with copies to the Area Alumnae Director and National Standards Chairman. Her name shall be removed from the membership roll and the mailing list.

REGULATION VI

NATIONAL CONVENTION

Section 1. Convention Delegate. The Convention delegate shall be a chapter member in good standing. She shall be required to attend all business meetings as a representative of her chapter.

a. Convention Delegate (Collegian). The college Chapter President shall be the Convention delegate. In the event the president is unable to attend Convention, for a reason approved by the College Chapter Director, an alternate from the Executive Board shall be selected by vote of the chapter or appointed by the College Chapter Director. This exception shall only apply if the chapter has been certified to send a delegate to Convention. The college chapter delegate shall report all proceedings in writing to her chapter by the first regular chapter meeting after Convention.

b. Convention Delegate (College Chapter Director). The College Chapter Director shall be the Convention delegate. In the event the College Chapter Director is unable to attend Convention, with the approval of the Regional Collegiate Director, an alternate delegate from the college 10

chapter’s Advisory Board shall be appointed by the College Chapter Director. This exception shall only apply if the college chapter has been certified to send a delegate to Convention.

c. Convention Delegate (Alumna). The Convention delegate shall be a member in good standing elected by the chapter as its official delegate. Authorization shall be sent to the National Convention Chairman for credential verification on the official alumnae chapter registration form.

Section 2.

a. Convention Expense. The National Council shall authorize the following expenses: the expenses of the members of National Council, National District Directors, Regional Collegiate Directors and Area Alumnae Directors; hotel rooms and meals for the collegiate chapter’s official delegate and its College Chapter Director; such expenses of the national chairmen of standing and special committees as National Council deems advisable; and such expenses of additional persons as may be necessary.

b. A registration fee shall be paid by all members attending Convention unless otherwise provided by National Council.

c. Expenses incidental to the actual attendance at Convention of college chapter delegates or College Chapter Directors other than those specified for payment from convention funds, are to be paid by the chapter or the individual. If the delegate should fail to return to her chapter the succeeding fall and complete her term of office, or if the College Chapter Director should fail to serve the remainder of her appointed year, she shall repay to the national treasury and to her chapter the amount paid by each.

Section 3. Convention Committees. The National President with the approval of the National Council shall appoint the following committees for Convention: Chairman of Convention, Credentials, Election, Program, Registration, Resolutions and such other committees as may be deemed necessary.

REGULATION VII

NATIONAL OFFICERS AND DUTIES

Section 1. President. The National President shall have general supervision of the affairs of the Sorority, shall preside at the National Convention, at meetings of the National Council and the Executive Board. She shall have the power to act in any emergency over which there is no constitutional guidance; to appoint a Parliamentarian; to appoint committees from the members of Delta 11

Zeta with the approval of National Council; to call regular meetings of the National Council and such special meetings as seem advisable; and serve as ex- officio member of the Delta Zeta Foundation with vote, the National Housing Corporation with vote, and all committees except the Nominating Committee. She shall sign all charters, certificates, membership cards and such other official papers as may be designated by National Council. She shall have such other duties as commonly pertain to her office.

Section 2. Vice President of Membership. Serves on the National Council and shall promote the activities of the recruitment and new member eduation programs as directed by National Council; shall assume the responsibilities of the National President in her absence; serves on the Executive Board; and performs such other duties as may be assigned by National Council.

Section 3. Vice President of Collegians. Serves on the National Council and shall promote the collegiate personnel programs as directed by National Council; serves as a member of the Executive Board; and performs such other duties as may be assigned by National Council

Section 4. Vice President of Alumnae. Serves on the National Council and shall promote the activities of the alumnae as directed by National Council; serves as a member of the Executive Board; and performs such other duties as may be assigned by National Council.

Section 5. Vice President of Administration. Serves on the National Council and as a member of the Executive Board; shall be responsible to ensure the minutes and records of the National Convention, the meetings of the National Council, and of the Executive Board are maintained in accordance with procedures approved by National Council; and performs such other duties as may be assigned by National Council.

Section 6. Vice President of Finance. Serves as consultant for all monies and funds of the Sorority and all affiliate organizations, and shall be a member of the Finance Committee; ensures the finances of the college chapters are in order and audited in accordance with procedures as approved by National Council; and shall be responsible to ensure the filing of college and alumnae chapters’ annual reports to the Internal Revenue Service. The Vice President of Finance, the National President or Vice President of Administration shall countersign all checks in excess of two thousand dollars authorized by National Council. She shall review the receipts and expenditures during her term of office, make a report to the National Convention, and perform such other duties as may be assigned by National Council.

Section 7. National Panhellenic Conference Delegate. She shall serve as an appointed member of National Council. It shall be the duty of the National Panhellenic Conference Delegate to attend meetings of the National Panhellenic Conference and to perform such duties as are assigned to her by the National 12

Panhellenic Conference. She shall report to the Sorority on the recommendations of the National Panhellenic Conference, consult with college and alumnae chapters on any Panhellenic questions, and keep them informed of National Panhellenic Conference decisions. She shall have such other duties as shall be assigned to her by the National Council.

Section 8. National Panhellenic Conference Alternates. It shall be the duty of the National Panhellenic Conference alternates to assist the National Panhellenic Conference Delegate and to perform such duties as are assigned to them by the National Panhellenic Conference. They shall have such other duties as shall be assigned to them by the National Council.

Section 9. Past President. The Past National President shall serve as an appointed member of National Council and shall perform such duties as may be designated by the National Council.

Section 10. Appointed Officers. The National Council may appoint additional members as may be deemed necessary. No appointed officers shall serve more than twelve successive years on National Council without a leave of absence of two years unless otherwise determined by three-fourths vote of National Council.

Section 11. Reports. Each member of National Council shall keep a record of all business transacted by her and submit an annual report to the meetings of the National Council and the National Convention. At the close of her term of office, she shall turn over to her successor all books, papers, equipment and the files of her office.

Section 12. Tenure. If an elected member of National Council has served more than half of a two-year term of office, it shall be considered one term. An elected member of National Council shall serve more than half of her term of office to be designated a past National Council member with privileges and responsibilities to vote at Convention and wear the insignia of her office.

REGULATION VIII

NATIONAL COMMITTEES AND DUTIES

Section 1. Consideration. Upon National Council’s consideration of members to appoint to National Committees, the opportunity will be given to alumnae members to submit a letter of consideration to these appointed National Committees.

Section 2. Academics Committee. The Academics Committee shall be responsible for providing all college chapters with effective programming to meet Delta Zeta’s purpose of stimulating one another in the pursuit of knowledge. The committee shall monitor chapter progress and reward achievement. 13

Section 3. Awards Committee. The Awards Committee shall be responsible for making recommendation to the National Council for the following national awards: Achoth Award, Gertrude Houk Fariss Award, the See Loving Cup, the Grace Mason Lundy Award, the Florence Hood Miner Award, the Alice Huenefeld Award, the Woman of the Year Award and such others as may be determined by National Council.

Section 4. Collegiate Chapter Finance Committee. The Collegiate Chapter Finance Committee shall have general supervision rules adopted by the National Council. It shall have such other duties as may be assigned.

Section 5. Constitution Committee. It shall be the responsibility of the Constitution Committee to insert in the Constitution and Code of Regulations all changes authorized by the National Convention; proofread all copy before revised editions of the Constitution and Code of Regulations are published, signing a statement as to its authenticity.

It shall also be the responsibility of the committee to maintain a current, amended and updated Standing Rules and Policies Book and periodically to issue revised editions to the official family.

The committee shall confirm the constitutionality of all college chapter and house corporation bylaws. It shall be the duty of the committee to prepare and present amendments; to refer suggestions of policy changes to the National Council; and to present a written report concerning proposed changes to members of the National Council at least six weeks prior to the National Convention. The chairman shall serve as a consultant in the interpretation of the Constitution and Code of Regulations and on proposed amendments and procedure.

The committee shall have such other duties as may be assigned by the National Council.

Section 6. Extension Committee. The Extension Committee shall direct and coordinate all activities concerning the establishment or reestablishment of Delta Zeta chapters in accordance with the policies and procedures established by National Council.

Section 7. Field Activities Committee. The Field Activities Committee shall coordinate college related activities, consider special college chapter concerns and shall be responsible for the supervision of salaried field personnel in accordance with the policies and procedures established by National Council.

Section 8. Finance Committee. The Finance Committee shall consist of at least three members, including the Vice President of Finance who may serve as chairman. It shall prepare an annual budget for the approval of National Council and biennial budget for adoption by the National Convention. It shall 14 supervise the fiscal management of the Sorority in accordance with the policies and procedures established by National Council. It shall have such other duties as may be assigned.

Section 9. History Committee. It shall be the duty of the History Committee to assure the compilation of a complete and continuous history of the Sorority/to edit the history periodically, and provide for its publication/and to provide a historical component of chapter programming. The chairman shall serve as a consultant in determining the final disposition of all Sorority records. She shall have such other duties as may be designated.

Section 10. Housing. The Housing programs of the Sorority shall be under the direction of the National Housing Corporation.

Section 11. Music Committee. The Music Committee shall be responsible for providing music for the National Conventions, and assuring the collection, distribution and encouraging the use of Delta Zeta songs by the alumnae and college chapters.

Section 12. New Member Education Committee. The New Member Education Committee shall be responsible for developing and administering a new member education program which will assure that all women are properly prepared for initiation and for lifelong membership in Delta Zeta Sorority.

Section 13. Philanthropy Committee. The Philanthropy Committee shall develop and promote opportunities to support Delta Zeta’s national philanthropy and encourage all philanthropic work of alumnae and collegiate chapters.

Section 14. Publications Committee. The Publications Committee shall review and approve all printed materials of Delta Zeta Sorority and her entities, assuring that the information contained therein is accurate, and is consistent with the mission and goals of our Sorority as articulated by National Council.

Section 14. Recruitment Committee. The Recruitment Committee shall have general supervision of the college recruitment programs, assuring Delta Zeta of both maximum and quality membership.

Section 15. Risk Management Committee. The Risk Management Committee shall be responsible for advising the Sorority on how to implement and enforce Delta Zeta’s risk management policies and procedures.

Section 16. Ritual Committee. The Ritual Committee shall review periodically and promote the understanding of all ritualistic materials. The chairman shall serve as the consultant in all matters pertaining to the ritual and

shall have such other duties as may be designated by National Council. Changes proposed by the Ritual Committee shall be submitted to National Council for recommendation to the National Convention.

Section 17. Special Committees. A special committee may be appointed by the National Council for a specific purpose. Upon presentation of its final report, the committee shall automatically be dissolved.

Section 18. Standards Committee. It shall be the duty of the Standards Committee to study all disciplinary and reinstatement cases referred to it and take action pursuant to the rules adopted by the National Council. The chairman also shall serve as a consultant to the members, chapters or officers on matters of discipline. She shall have such other duties as may be assigned.

Section 19. Training and Program Development Committee. The Training and Program Development Committee shall develop, plan and coordinate the ongoing educational and training programs and activities of the Sorority. It shall have such other duties as may be established by National Council.

REGULATION IX

AREA ALUMNAE DIRECTOR AND DUTIES.

It shall be the duty of the Area Alumnae Director to develop a network of alumnae within the area, to stimulate and encourage alumnae to respond to volunteer opportunities and to promote alumnae group organization. She shall appoint, with the approval of the National Council, State Alumnae Chairmen for the states in her area. The Area Alumnae Director shall promote positive public relations, cultivate a financial base in support of Delta Zeta’s mission and goals. She shall keep an accurate and complete file of all business and correspondence relative to her office and transfer such material to her successor.

REGULATION X

NATIONAL DISTRICT DIRECTOR AND DUTIES

It shall be the duty of the National District Director to assist the Regional Collegiate Directors in her district; and to promote and maintain a high standard of achievement in all phases of the Sorority program. She shall be in continuous communication with the Regional Collegiate Directors in her district. She shall perform such other duties as may be designated. She shall keep an accurate and complete file of all business and correspondence relative to her office and transfer such material to her successor.

REGULATION XI

REGIONAL COLLEGIATE DIRECTOR AND DUTIES

It shall be the duty of the Regional Collegiate Director to assist the college chapters in her region and to promote and maintain a high standard of achievement in all phases of the Sorority program. She shall be in continuous communication with the College Chapter Directors and the college chapters in her region. She shall appoint annually all College Chapter Directors in the region subject to approval of National Council. She shall perform such other duties as may be designated. She shall keep an accurate and complete file of all business and correspondence relative to her office and transfer such materials to her successor.

REGULATION XII

COLLEGE CHAPTER OFFICERS AND DUTIES

Section 1. Duties of Chapter Officers.

a. President. It shall be the duty of the President to preside at all meetings of her chapter; to conduct ritualistic services or cause them to be performed by a former or visiting chapter president or national visitor; to have power to call special meetings; to appoint all committees not otherwise provided; to enforce a strict compliance with all regulations of the college, chapter and Sorority; to require of each officer a full performance of her duties; to take necessary action to protect the interests of the chapter and the Sorority in any emergency which may arise between meetings; to represent her chapter at the National Convention and to perform all such duties as the Sorority may require or her charge imply. She shall serve as an ex-officio member of all committees except the Nominating Committee.

b. Vice President of Membership. It shall be the duty of the Vice President of Membership to have the chapter maintain maximum membership at all times, to plan for and supervise the chapter’s selection of new members, to act as aide to the president and to assume the duties of the President in her absence. c. Vice President of New Member Education. It shall be the duty of the Vice President of New Member Education to be responsible for the development and implementation of a program to coordinate new member activities and to prepare all new members for initiation.

d. Vice President of Programs. It shall be the duty of the Vice President of Programs to direct the chapter to establish and maintain excellence in all areas of chapter operations and to enhance each member’s college experience through education and skill development. She shall be 17

responsible for the chapter’s annual assessment, goal-setting, and programming. e. Secretary. It shall be the duty of the Secretary to keep a complete and accurate record of every regular or special meeting; to keep a copy of the Constitution, Code of Regulations, approved chapter bylaws and standing rules; to inspect and record results of all balloting; to record all invitations to membership issued by the chapter; to keep a record of all members added to the chapter by initiation, including dates of initiation; to notify National Headquarters immediately of the newly elected officers; to write all communications, reports and forms required of her by national and chapter bylaws; to file and preserve all important correspondence. f. Treasurer. It shall be the duty of the Treasurer to collect and have custody of all funds of the chapter and keep an accurate account thereof in accordance with the accounting system of the Sorority; to submit required documentation to Delta Zeta’s official collection agency, as necessary; to be responsible for the payment of all national and local bills of the chapter; to transfer funds from the chapter’s general fund into all required funds in a timely manner; to report regularly to her chapter a statement of accounts; to submit her records for audit as instructed by the National Vice President of Finance; and to submit an annual budget as directed. She shall deliver to her successor audited books and all records belonging to the chapter. g. Historian/Chaplain. It shall be the duty of the chapter Historian/ Chaplain to care for the archives; to make permanent record of all matters of interest and importance relating to the chapter and its alumnae; to keep a corrected file of all alumnae members; to act as correspondent from her chapter to The LAMP of Delta Zeta; to provide the historical component of chapter programming; and to conduct the chapter meditations. h. Panhellenic Delegate. It shall be the duty of the Panhellenic Delegate to represent the college chapter at all regular and special college Panhellenic meetings. She shall report all Panhellenic business to the chapter after each meeting and she shall consult the Delta Zeta National Panhellenic Conference Delegate on all matters which involve college Panhellenic changes. She shall provide any reports requested by the National Panhellenic Conference Delegate.

i. Parliamentarian. It shall be the duty of the chapter Parliamentarian to conduct and advise on rules of procedure at each business meeting, using Robert’s Rules of Order Newly Revised in all cases to which they are applicable and in which they are not inconsistent with the laws of the Sorority; to serve as chairman of the bylaws committee; and to submit all proposed amendments to the College Chapter Director before final adoption by the chapter.

j. Guards. It shall be the duty of the Guards to take charge of, safeguard and 18

conceal all equipment used in ritualistic services; to prepare the rooms for these services and for the meetings of the chapter; to leave them in order at the close of such services or meetings of the chapter; to preserve order in all meetings; and prevent interruption or intrusion at services or chapter meetings. It shall be the responsibility of the Guards to keep all ritualistic paraphernalia in good condition.

Section 2. Chapter Executive Board

a. Membership. An Executive Board shall include the Chapter President, Vice President of Membership, Vice President of New Member Education, Vice President of Programs, Secretary, Treasurer and a representative of the alumnae advisory board. Additional members may be added depending on size and housing of the chapter.

b. Duties of the Executive Board. The Executive Board shall act for the chapter between meetings; recommend chapter policies and necessary action; consider qualifications for chapter awards; and may act as a disciplinary body for the chapter in enforcing campus, National Sorority and chapter rules, policies and standards. It shall have such other duties as the chapter delegates.

Section 3. Duties of the College Chapter Director. The College Chapter Director shall be responsible for the satisfactory operation of the chapter. She shall report to the Regional Collegiate Director and national officers as requested; and shall promote close relationships between the alumnae and college groups and between the college chapter and the national organization.

The College Chapter Director shall serve as a member of the chapter advisory board; shall remove any officer or committee chairman for failure to perform her duties satisfactorily; and shall have power to discipline any member. She shall approve bylaws and standing rules of the chapter, represent the college chapter at National Convention and perform such other duties as may be designated. At the close of her term of office, she shall deliver to her successor all property of the Sorority and all books, papers and equipment used in the performance of her duties.

REGULATION XIII

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Section 1. Executive Director. The National Council shall employ an Executive Director who shall manage the office with the approval of the National Council, employing such office personnel as may be necessary to ensure efficient conduct of the business of the Sorority.

Section 2. Duties. The Executive Director shall be responsible for and have 19 custody of all Sorority records including membership. She shall supply members engaged in the work of the Sorority with the Constitution and Code of Regulations, current directives, all necessary material and pertinent information; approve all orders of Delta Zeta badges and provide initiates with membership certificates, cards and supplies; be responsible for the purchasing, selling, and printing of supplies; provide symbols and insignia for the chapters, make necessary replacements of equipment for established chapters and recall all paraphernalia from a chapter upon the withdrawal of its charter.

She shall approve vouchers and sign all checks as authorized by National Council, and render a complete annual report of the work of her office to National Council.

The Executive Director shall have such other duties as shall be assigned to her by National Council or as the management of the office entails, and at the termination of her employment, shall deliver to her successor all property of the Sorority and all books, papers, and equipment used in the performance of her duties.

REGULATION XIV

COLLEGE CHAPTER ESTABLISHMENT

Section 1. Petition. A college chapter of Delta Zeta may be established by petition. Upon the recommendation of the official visitor, the National Council shall vote upon the petition. A unanimous vote of the National Council shall establish a colony.

Section 2. Voting on Petition. Upon approval of the National Council, the Executive Director shall send out the proper voting ballots. The Regional Collegiate Director and the Area Alumnae Director where the group is located, the five nearest college chapters and the three nearest alumnae chapters shall be entitled to vote upon a petition. Three negative votes shall lose the petition.

All ballots shall be returned within the date indicated on the ballot to National Headquarters or the ballot shall be counted as an affirmative vote. Each chapter ballot shall be signed by the chapter president. A negative vote shall be accompanied by a written statement of explanation for opposing the establishment of the proposed chapter.

Section 3. A chapter of Delta Zeta may be established by colonization and at the direction of the National Council.

Section 4. Financial Obligation. The members of a colony shall pay the national new member fee. Before receiving the initiation service, each member of the colony shall pay the regular initiation fee plus the cost of badge and all fees, such sum to cover lifelong membership, subscription to The LAMP of Delta Zeta, individual initiation supplies and use of a standard 20 badge. An installation fee for the petitioning group shall be determined by the National Council and shall be paid prior to the installation of the chapter. Section 5. Installation. The National Council shall appoint an installation committee, with the chairman serving as coordinator and assisting the chapter in meeting all the requirements for installation, and making all the necessary arrangements with the approval of the National President. Two or more national officers shall serve as installing officers to install a chapter of Delta Zeta, presenting them the charter and instructing them in the ritual. A report of all proceedings shall be made by the chairman to National Council.

REGULATION XV

COLLEGE CHAPTER DUES AND FEES

Section 1. New Member Fee. The national new member fee shall be determined by National Council and based on the budget adopted at the National Convention. An additional new member fee may be charged by the chapter and shall remain in the chapter treasury.

The chapter remits to National Headquarters the national new member fee and the cost of the badge. The national new member fee includes lifelong membership and a subscription to The LAMP of Delta Zeta.

Section 2. Each initiate and new member shall pay to the national treasury through her chapter treasury a national dues based on the adopted national budget and as determined by National Council.

Section 3. The college chapter with the approval of the College Chapter Director shall determine the individual dues based on its adopted budget.

REGULATION XVI

COLLEGE CHAPTER HOUSING

Section 1. Bylaws or Constitution of a House Corporation. The bylaws or constitution of each existing and newly organized House Corporation shall include the following additional provisions:

a. The corporation President or Secretary shall send to the National Housing Administrator one copy of:

i. The minutes of each annual or special meeting of the corporation;

ii. A list of corporation officers with correct addresses immediately following each annual election; iii. An account audit report prepared by a Certified Public Accountant or by an auditor designated or approved in advance by the National Housing Administrator.

b. At least two undergraduate representatives, namely the President and Treasurer or House Manager, shall serve as members of the House Corporation board.

c. Members of the corporation shall be members in good standing of the Sorority and shall agree to be bound by the laws and policies of Delta Zeta Sorority, an Ohio Corporation.

Section 2. Transactions Involving Real or Personal Property. A college chapter, an alumnae chapter, or a house corporation shall apply to the authorized representative of National Council to obtain the approval for any transaction involving the purchase, option to purchase, remodeling, lease, sale or construction of real estate, including but not limited to any house, apartment, lodge or lot, or the purchase or sale of substantial amounts of personal property (furnishings) before any steps or plans may be executed. Any such request shall be submitted six weeks in advance of time of such transaction and shall include the following information:

a. General plans and specifications for construction or remodeling, if any;

b. An accurate estimate of all cost involved;

c. A complete report of the financial condition of the college chapter, alumnae chapter, or house corporation involved, as of time of submitting the proposed transaction;

d. A detailed schedule and plan for financing the transaction;

e. A report showing that the college chapter or alumnae chapter or house corporation involved has considered and approved the proposed transaction; and

f. If a sale of real estate is involved, a statement of all offers received and relevant information as to fees and other costs affecting the sale.

Contracts signed by officers without the prior written approval of National Council or authorized deputy become the personal obligation of the officers so signing.

Section 3. House Residence. All initiates and new members of a college chapter maintaining a house shall be required to live in the house 22 to capacity under the discretion of the College Chapter Director, after approval from the Regional Collegiate Director, unless prohibited therefrom by a university or college regulation or reasons of health or to serve as a Residential Advisor. House contracts for those members assuming alumnae status are binding for the entire term of the contract. Failure to abide by this Regulation shall result in disciplinary action leading to termination of membership.

Section 4. Mandated University Housing. All initiates and new members of a college chapter maintaining housing mandated by a college or university shall be required to live in the housing to capacity of the housing, under the discretion of the College Chapter Director, after approval from the Regional Collegiate Director, unless prohibited therefrom by reasons of health or to serve as a Residential Advisor. Mandated university housing shall include, but is not limited to, the following: house, apartment, lodge, dormitory chapter rooms, dormitory floors.

Section 5. Responsibility of College Chapter. It shall be the responsibility of each college chapter to cause the House Corporation to comply with all provisions of the Constitution and Code of Regulations of the Delta Zeta Sorority, an Ohio Corporation. The House Corporation and the Furnishing Committee of each college chapter shall be responsible to the National organization through the College Chapter Director.

Section 6. Meeting Rooms, Panhellenic Suites and Apartments. College chapters renting space or owning furnishings shall cause to be established a corporation according to procedures outlined in Article XV of the Constitution and of Regulation XV of this Code. This corporation shall abide by the same laws and regulations as apply to all Delta Zeta house corporations.

Section 7. Solicitation of Funds. All house corporations are bound by Article XIV, Section 3 of the Constitution.

REGULATION XVII

FINANCE

Section 1. Division of Funds. The funds of the Delta Zeta Sorority shall be the General Fund, the Trust Fund and the Educational Fund. Each fund shall be derived from sources as indicated and administered under the authorization of National Council.

Section 2. General Fund. The General Fund receives monies from the following sources: a portion of national dues paid by the college chapters, a portion of the national new member fee, income from investments and additional miscellaneous income. Expenses shall be paid from this fund for the operation of the National Headquarters, the National Convention, the expenses of National Council, Area Alumnae Directors, National District Directors, 23

Regional Collegiate Directors, Committee Chairmen and other representatives authorized by National Council, and for any other operating expenses not hereinbefore specified which may be designated by National Council in the annual budget.

Section 3. Trust Fund. The Trust Fund is derived from the following sources: subscriptions to The LAMP of Delta Zeta from each new member fee, interest on loans and income from investments. This fund shall pay all the expenses of publishing The LAMP of Delta Zeta, the magazine of the Sorority, and the expenses of administering the Trust Fund. A yearly budget for publishing The LAMP of Delta Zeta shall be prepared by the Finance Committee. The Trust Fund shall also be available for the financing of chapter housing and other such projects as determined by the National Council.

Section 4. Educational Fund. The Educational Fund is derived from voluntary contributions from members and alumnae chapters and such other sources as may be determined by National Council.

The purpose of this fund shall be for such other projects as determined by the National Council.

REGULATION XVIII

INDEMNIFICATION AND INSURANCE

Section 1. Indemnification. Delta Zeta Sorority shall indemnify any Trustee or officer or any former Trustee or officer of Delta Zeta Sorority or any person who is or has served at the request of Delta Zeta Sorority as a member, director, officer or trustee of another corporation, joint venture, trust or other enterprise against expenses, including but not limited to attorney’s fees, judgment, fines and amounts paid in settlement, actually, and reasonably incurred by her by reason of the fact that she is or was such trustee, officer or director in connection with any threatened, pending or completed action, suit or proceedings, whether civil, criminal, administrative or investigative to the extent and according to the procedures and requirements set forth in the Ohio Non-Profit Compliance law. The indemnification provided herein shall not be deemed to restrict the right of Delta Zeta Sorority to indemnify employees, agents and others as permitted by such law.

Section 2. Insurance. Delta Zeta Sorority may purchase and maintain insurance or furnish similar protection, including but not limited to trust funds, letters of credit or self-insurance, for or on behalf of any person who is or was a trustee, officer, employee, agent or volunteer of Delta Zeta Sorority, or is or was serving at the request of Delta Zeta Sorority as a director, officer, partner, trustee, employee, agent or volunteer of another corporation, domestic or foreign, nonprofit or for profit, partnership, joint venture, trust or other enterprise against any liability asserted against her and incurred by her in any such capacity, or arising out of her status as such, whether or not Delta Zeta 24

Sorority has the obligation or power to indemnify her against such liability under this Regulation. REGULATION XIX

CHAPTER BYLAWS AND STANDING RULES

Section 1. Requirements. One requirement for a college chapter in good standing which entitles a delegate to vote at National Convention is that a chapter shall have an approved copy of its bylaws and standing rules on file at National Headquarters. All college chapters are required to have on file at National Headquarters according to the procedural rules adopted by National Council, an original copy of their bylaws and standing rules, approved by the College Chapter Director and National Constitution Chairman.

Section 2. Amendments. When chapter bylaws and standing rules are amended, these amendments shall be approved by the College Chapter Director and the original copy of the approved amendments shall be sent immediately to National Headquarters.

REGULATION XX

AWARDS

Section 1. The following awards shall be presented at the National Convention by National Council on behalf of the members of the Sorority with the exception of the Grace Mason Lundy Award and the Florence Hood Miner Award, which are presented annually:

a. Achoth Award shall be given to specially selected alumnae who have demonstrated, by long and faithful service, their continued loyalty to Delta Zeta particularly in their local communities.

b. The Betty Heusch Agler President’s Award shall be an outstanding achievement award to be given at each Convention to a chapter which has shown special achievement or has handled an unusual/critical situation in an exemplary manner, bringing credit to Delta Zeta Sorority in general and its chapter members individually.

c. Caryatides Award consists of six statues presented to those chapters which have best envisioned and fulfilled a New Member Education Program that has brought enrichment to the new members. The first Caryatides figures were presented to Delta Zeta in 1960 by Ruth Simmering, a loyal member of Epsilon Chapter, establishing the tradition portrayed by the six maidens of the Porch of Maidens on the Acropolis of Athens, Greece.

d. Council Award. This award shall be presented to a chapter or chapters for six years of high consistent achievement. A minimum of two 25

conventions shall elapse before a chapter shall be eligible to receive this award again. e. Crest Award. This award shall be presented to outstanding college chapters that have excelled consistently in all areas of college programming. f. Gertrude Houk Fariss Award was established in her name in recognition of her many years of service to Delta Zeta as National President and as a Panhellenic leader. This traveling trophy shall be presented jointly to recognize outstanding alumnae-collegiate chapter programming and activity. g. Founders Award. Six candlesticks commemorating our six Founders shall be given to the chapter or chapters with a high record of achievement over the previous two-year period. This award or awards shall be given when merited. Eligible chapters shall be judged on membership, financial standing, cooperation, college programs, philanthropies and standing on campus. h. Heritage Cup. The Heritage Cup shall be presented to the college and/or alumnae chapter which has contributed significantly and most effectively to the Delta Zeta National Historical Museum in Oxford, Ohio. i. Myrtle Graeter Hinkly Council Award, a gift from Texas Delta Zetas, was established in tribute to her years of service, two different periods as National President and two different periods as National Treasurer. This traveling trophy shall be given to a large alumnae chapter which has excelled in all areas of alumnae work. j. Grace Mason Lundy Award was established in her name in recognition of her many years of service as a National President, Historian and in other national offices. It shall be presented to senior members of Delta Zeta who throughout their college years have given greatest evidence of loyalty, devotion and service to their chapters and to the Sorority. k. Florence Hood Miner Award is presented in her name in recognition of her service as National Vice President, Editor of The LAMP of Delta Zeta, Historian and other national offices. The award shall be given to members of Delta Zeta who in their junior year made the greatest contribution to their college, chapter and Delta Zeta through outstanding leadership on the campus, while maintaining a good academic record. l. Margaret Huenefeld Pease Council Award was established in tribute to her service as National President, Editor of The LAMP of Delta Zeta and other national offices. This traveling trophy shall be given to a small alumnae chapter which has excelled in all areas of alumnae work. 26

m. Adelaide See Loving Cup. The Adelaide See Loving Cup shall be given to the chapter which has shown unusual improvement since the last National Convention. This improvement may be in any specific area or a combination of areas.

n. Genevieve Schmitt Memorial Plaque was established by her chapter in her honor as an outstanding member and shall be given to the college chapter with the highest academic rating. This traveling award may be won by a chapter three times in succession and then retained in the chapter permanently; and in this event, a new plaque shall be made available by National Council.

o. Alice Huenefeld Award, given by Margaret Huenefeld Pease in memory of her sister Alice, shall be a traveling bracelet presented at Convention to an outstanding College Chapter Director who has given long and dedicated service to her chapter.

Section 2. The Woman of the Year Award shall be presented annually on Founders Day and shall be granted to an alumna member of Delta Zeta who has achieved national recognition in her chosen career which may be a profession or in volunteer service. The selection shall be made by National Council.

Section 3. The Order of the Laurel was established to honor those members for sorority service of exceptional merit covering a period of many years. This award shall be given by National Council only in special circumstances.

The names of the recipients of the Order of the Laurel shall appear immediately beneath the names of the Founders in The LAMP of Delta Zeta and all official publications.

Section 4. National President’s Plaque. The National President’s Plaque given by the Nu Chapter in honor of Evelyn Adams Costello, a former National President, shall be placed in National Headquarters and a replica shall be presented to the college chapter of the newly elected president at the National Convention.

Section 5. The Norma Minch Andrisek Leadership Conferences were established in her name in recognition of her service as National President and other national offices. These conferences shall be for continuing education in leadership for either individual or group training. These conferences shall be funded by the Sorority and contributions from members and friends.

Section 6. The Carolyn B. Gullatt Symposium was established in her name in recognition of her service as National President. The symposium 27 shall be a forum for learning and discussion about issues significant to fraternities and sororities and shall be presented at each National Convention.

Section 7. Special Recognition.

a. Special recognition is conferred on those members of Delta Zeta who have been members for twenty-five years. Any member who has come into Delta Zeta through membership in a merged national or local group is eligible for this recognition twenty-five years following her original initiation date.

b. The Order of the Golden Rose is conferred upon those members of Delta Zeta who have been members for fifty years. Any member who has come into Delta Zeta through membership in a merged national or local group is eligible for this Order fifty years following her original initiation date.

c. The Order of the Pearl is conferred upon those members of Delta Zeta who have been members for sixty-five years. Any member who has come into Delta Zeta through membership in a merged national or local group is eligible for this Order sixty-five years following her original initiation date.

d. The Order of the Diamond is conferred on those members of Delta Zeta who have been members for seventy-five years. Any member who has come into Delta Zeta through membership in a merged national or local group is eligible for this Order seventy-five years following her original initiation date.

REGULATION XXI

INSIGNIA Section 1. The Coat of Arms (Crest). The Coat of Arms shall be Vert on a pale, or a distaff gules; in dexter chief of scroll palewise in sinister base a flamed lamp, both of the second; crest on a chevron gule; an open book white and gold proper; and Delta Zeta motto at the base.

Section 2. The Delta Zeta Banner. The Delta Zeta Banner shall be made in accordance with the following specifications: standard American flag proportions (2x3, 3x5, 4x6) with three equal vertical panels of rose, green and rose. The emblems shall be: in the upper third of the first panel, starting from the head, is a distaff; in the middle third of a second panel is a Roman lamp; and in the lower third of the third panel is a scroll. Satin or similar material shall be used with a gold fringe binding.

Section 3. Seal. The seal shall be the Delta Zeta badge in a two inch circle, the Greek motto surrounding upper half and the “Delta Zeta Sorority” in the lower half and below the badge in circle shall be “Founded at , 28

1902.” The seal shall be used only to authenticate such documents as certificates of membership, charters, Constitution, Code of Regulations, and all official and legal papers.

Section 4. Pins

MEMBER

a. New Member. There shall be only one new member pin, referred to as a pledge pin. This shall be of gold in diamond shape, the center black enamel and bearing a Roman lamp in gold.

b. Badge Guard. The official Delta Zeta badge guard shall be the Greek letter or letters of the initiate’s college chapter in gold; plain, engraved or jeweled.

c. Recognition. The approved recognition pin shall be a small gold lamp with the Greek letters ΔΖ in black enamel or the staggered Greek letters ΔΖ in gold or set in pearls.

d. Order of the Golden Rose. The official fifty-year membership pin shall be a rose in gold, set with a pearl and with Greek letters ΔΖ. Additional insignia shall be a gold rose dangle with a pearl in the center.

e. Order of the Pearl. In recognition of sixty-five years of membership, an oval disc in gold with an etched rose, the rose to be set with a pearl, shall be worn as a pin or necklace.

NON-MEMBER RECOGNITION

a. Father and Husband. The official jewelry of the Sorority for fathers and husbands shall be the top of an Ionic column in gold and may be set with four pearls.

b. Mother. The official pin of the Sorority for mothers shall be an Ionic column in gold which may be set with four pearls at the top of the column.

Section 5. Other Insignia. National officers, College Chapter Directors, National Committee Chairmen, Area Alumnae Directors, National District Directors, Regional Collegiate Directors, daughters, granddaughters, great granddaughters and members of the Order of the Golden Rose and the Order of the Pearl are entitled to wear the appropriate insignia.

a. National Officers. The members of the National Council shall be entitled to wear the following insignia of office: a gold dangle with a shield in the center, two green enamel vertical columns either side with a diamond in 29

the top center for the President and a pearl for other members.

b. College Chapter Directors and National Committee Chairmen. These members shall be entitled to wear the following insignia: i. College Chapter Director - Gold or silver Delta with pierced center, Greek letters ΔΖ in black enamel on the base.

ii. National Committee Chairman - Gold Delta with pierced center, Greek letters ΔΖ in black enamel on the base, mounted on gold disc.

c. Daughter, Granddaughter, or Great Granddaughter Pendant - The official insignia for daughter, granddaughter or great granddaughter shall be a gold lamp set in an open gold heart in pendant form.

Section 6. The National President’s Badge. The National President’s Badge shall be presented to the newly elected National President to be worn during her term of office and to be given to her successor. The badge shall be the Roman lamp, resting upon an Ionic column and having upon each side three wings of Mercury. The jewelling shall be a diamond in the flame, four pearls at the base of the lamp and diamonds in the six wings. The lamp shall bear the Greek letters ΔΖ in black enamel.

REGULATION XXII

PARLIAMENTARY AUTHORITY

The rules contained in Robert’s Rules of Order Newly Revised shall govern the Sorority in all cases to which they are applicable and in which they are not inconsistent with the Constitution and the Code of Regulations.

REGULATION XXIII

An amendment to the Code which constitutes the Regulations of the Sorority may be made by two-thirds vote of the National Council in the interim between conventions, subject to approval at the next Convention by a two-thirds vote of the delegates present. An amendment may be presented to the Convention by the consent of three-fourths of the voting members at a business meeting of Convention.
