This publication was inspired by Mahasiddha Swami Nityananda, who uses a causal body and who imparted this information into the mind of the writer by mystic transfer. Brahma yoga techniques are secretive but in contrast, Lord Krishna divulged the process openly to Arjuna. This volume reveals this. It may free a reader from ineffective processes. For practicing yogis, it would confirm valid mystic methods and show new approaches to self realization and the curbing of the human psyche. An Alternate Analysis: Prabhupada’s May 28th Conversation and July 9th Letter (1977) Henry Doktorski, III Copyright © 2015 by Henry Doktorski, III Introduction What is the value of yet another examination of Srila Prabhupada’s May 28th conversation with members of the GBC and July 9th letter authorizing eleven men to initiate as ritvik priests? Hasn’t this already been analyzed to death? After nearly four decades, haven’t Prabhupada’s instructions been clearly understood and implemented? I’m not convinced that they have. This is important because if the instructions of the spiritual master are not correctly interpreted and followed then the entire sampradaya will veer off course and become asara, or useless. Prabhupada explained, “Persons who strictly follow the orders of the spiritual master are useful in executing the will of the Supreme, whereas persons who deviate from the strict order of the spiritual master are useless [asara].” 1 I first heard about this famous conversation and letter—in which Prabhupada allegedly appointed eleven advanced disciples to succeed him—in 1978 when I joined ISKCON and began serving Prabhupada’s mission as a disciple of one of the zonal acaryas. I learned more about this conversation and letter in 1983, when Satsvarupa dasa Goswami’s Srila Prabhupada- lilamrta, Volume 6: Uniting Two Worlds was published. At that time I accepted Satsvarupa’s conclusion that these two documents were a “clear and conclusive” appointment of eleven men to “become gurus and accept disciples of their own.” 2 Recently, however, I have had the good fortune to become acquainted with a devotee who lived in Vrindaban, India during the summer of 1977 when Srila Prabhupada was making arrangements for the future of ISKCON in preparation for his inevitable passage from this world.

  • Where the Rtvik People Are Wrong
Where the Rtvik People are Wrong by Jayadvaita Swami (January 1996) If Srila Prabhupada didn't clearly and definitely say it, and if it first came up after 1977, whatever it is, don't trust it. ÐRule of Thumb The purpose of this paper is to deal with a particular theory of how Srila Prabhupada intended devotees in ISKCON to receive initiation after his physical departure. We'll come to the controversies shortly, but first let's look at what we all agree on. What all of us agree on Forget for a moment that Srila Prabhupada has physically disappeared. Put aside questions of what should happen in modern-day ISKCON. For the moment, let's just look at the standard teaching Srila Prabhupada gave us about the disciplic succession. I apologize for presenting a piece of my own writing from BACK TO GODHEAD, but I think it gives a reasonably concise summary that any ISKCON devotee would agree with. Here it is. From Master to Disciple The parampara is the chain of spiritual masters and disciples through which Krsna consciousness is taught and received. In Bhagavad-gita Lord Krsna says, ªI taught this ancient science of yoga to the sun-god, Vivasvan. Vivasvan taught it to his son Manu. And Manu taught it to his son Iksvaku. In this way, through the system of parampara, disciplic succession, the science was understood by the saintly kings.º In the parampara system, then, the original teacher, the original spiritual master, is Lord Krsna, God Himself. The Lord gives perfect knowledge, and that knowledge is handed down from master to disciple.

Prabhupada used to call him "Professor Howard Wheeler" even after Hayagriva received his spiritual name. Prabhupada was also very pleased to utilize Hayagriva's literary abilities for spreading Krishna consciousness. It seemed that just when Prabhupada needed him, Krishna supplied a devotee like Hayagriva to begin the editing of Prabhupada's voluminous Bhagavad-gita and SrimadBhagavatam manuscripts. And it was Hayagriva whom Prabhupada made the first co-editor of Back To Godhead magazine in 1966. At first, I envied Hayagriva's literary talents, but Hayagriva gave me a good lesson, for which I am always grateful. Although I was involved in writing even before I met Srila Prabhupada, when I became his disciple, I thought that all writing should be given up. I thought that writing was a manifestation of false ego. I remember one day telling this to Hayagriva Prabhu in the storefront. He just laughed in his loud voice and said that as far as he was concerned, he was going to write for Krishna! At first, I walked away with my own opinion-1 would renounce writing-but Hayagriva's statement began to make good sense.

Storming the Gates of the Temple of Science: Religion and Science in Three New Religious Movements Benjamin E. Chapel Hill 2007 Approved by: Prof. Yaakov Ariel Prof. Laurie Maffly-Kipp Prof. Thomas A. Tweed Prof. Seymour Mauskopf Prof. Grant Wacker © 2007 Benjamin E. Zeller ALL RIGHTS RESERVED ii ABSTRACT Benjamin E. Zeller: Storming the Gates of the Temple of Science: Religion and Science in Three New Religious Movements (Under the direction of Prof. Yaakov Ariel) This dissertation considers how three new religious movements—the Hare Krishnas, Unification Church, and Heaven’s Gate—treated the concept of science and the relation of science to religion and the wider society. Each of the three religions offered a distinct position on the nature of science and how religion and science ought to interact. All of the three new religions understood their views of science as crucial to their wider theological views and social stances. And, in each of these new religious movements, the nature and meaning of science served a central role in the group’s self-understanding and conceptualization. Because the roles and boundaries of science so concerned each of the groups, their founders, leaders, and ordinary members offered both implicit and explicit re-envisionings of science. These views developed out of each group’s historical circumstances and theological positions, but also evolved in concert with concurrent social developments and cultural influences.

I cannot encourage this style it should be stopped immediately. Paintings should be like the Deities, formal and worshipful. This type of painting is sentimental and not authorised. Paintings should be as our artists in New York are doing. Do not introduce any new styles.” Srila Prabhupada letter to Madhudvisa, 8 December 1973 by Krishnakant The Nightmarish Art of Satsvarupa dasa Satsvarupa’s Valentine Hodge Podge Knowing the wonderful service H.H.Satsvarupa Maharaja performed for Srila Prabhupada when he was physically present, one can only lament the steady decline he has exhibited in the intervening years. Rather than seeing his increasing physical and mental incapacity as some sort of sign from Krishna, he instead stubbornly refuses to budge from his baseless convic- tion that Srila Prabhupada authorised him to become an initiating Acharya in the infallible Brahma-Gaudiya sampradaya. So determined was he to convince others of his legitimacy as an initiating Guru, he even invented his own version of the May 28th 1977 conversation which to this day is still printed in the Srila Prabhupada Lilamrta (Satsvarupa Maharaja’s biography of Srila Prabhupada). Below we give an amalgam of all four official GBC versions of the relevant section of the conversation (with variations in brackets): Satsvarupa dasa Goswami: So (then) (they) (they’ll) (may) also be considered your disciples? Srila Prabhupada: Yes, they are disciples, (but) (why) consider ... who Tamal Krishna Goswami: No.

  • The Real 'Appointment Tape'
The Real 'Appointment Tape' http://www.iskconirm.com/docs/webpages/gbc7.htm The Real 'Appointment Tape' by Krishnakant The so-called 'appt tape' has caused much confusion for persons trying to understand the 'Guru' issue, and for many remains as the main stumbling block to accepting Srila Prabhupada's July 9th order, setting out a ritvik system for ISKCON. The following is written for those persons who are NOT in anyway concerned over the tape's authenticity. This is an issue that is highlighted by Norman Perle's GBC authorised report which stated that the tape exhibited ' strong signs suggestive of falsification ', and also by the fact that such a short recording has produced up to 5 different official GBC transcripts. (Please note that in the extracts of the tape transcripts that follow, we have allowed for all these different transcripts, by putting the disputed variations in brackets). Leaving this aside, it appears that there are two main sources of confusion. The First Source of Confusion The first source of confusion arises from a mis-representation of what was actually said in the last 2 or 3 sentences of the conversation. The transcript that most people are presented by the GBC is similar to the following: Srila Prabhupada: Who is initiating. He is grand-disciple. Satsvarupa dasa Goswami: Then we have a question concerning... Srila Prabhupada: When I order you become guru, he becomes regular guru. That's all. He becomes disciple of my disciple. Most persons who see this transcript as presented above will naturally either be confused or think that Srila Prabhupada is speaking of the ' ritvik s' having their own disciples and thus being Diksa Gurus.
