Role Profile Special Constable
ROLE PROFILE SPECIAL CONSTABLE Reports To: Chief Officer, Isle of Man Special Constabulary Overall Purpose: Special Constables work on a voluntary basis at the front-line of policing. They work in partnership on a day-to-day basis with local communities, partner agencies and colleagues to promote law and order, reduce the fear of crime, provide reassurance and build confidence to improve the quality of life for citizens. This role carries the same legal powers as a Police Constable, making autonomous decisions in accordance with the National Decision Model and Code of Ethics, and exercising professional discretion, as appropriate to the role, in line with legal frameworks and policy guidelines. Special Constables are required to meet and maintain the highest professional standards required of their role, by conducting all actions in a legal, balanced, proportionate and justifiable manner to uphold the law and achieve the best outcomes in a wide range of situations/incidents. Main Duties & Responsibilities: Provide appropriate initial and ongoing frontline response to a wide range of incidents that include complex and confrontational situations, assessing immediate risk, threat and harm to determine a proportionate response in line with the law, policy and guidance. Assist police colleagues in establishing effective localised partnerships to problem-solve, engage with, reassure and support organisations, groups and individuals across communities in line with the Force’s planned approach. Effectively engage with victims, witnesses, suspects and the vulnerable, in accordance with equality, diversity and human rights considerations, to provide initial support, direct towards relevant services, establish relationships and gather information that prevents and reduces crimes. -

WAR IN PAKISTAN: THE EFFECTS OF THE PAKISTANI-AMERICAN WAR ON TERROR IN PAKISTAN by AKHTAR QURESHI A thesis submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the Honors in the Major Program in Political Science in the College of Science and in the Burnett Honors College at the University of Central Florida Orlando, FL Spring Term 2011 Thesis Chair: Dr. Houman Sadri ABSTRACT This research paper investigates the current turmoil in Pakistan and how much of it has been caused by the joint American-Pakistani War on Terror. The United States’ portion of the War on Terror is in Afghanistan against the Al-Qaeda and Taliban forces that began after the September 11th attacks in 2001, as well as in Pakistan with unmanned drone attacks. Pakistan’s portion of this war includes the support to the U.S. in Afghanistan and military campaigns within it’s own borders against Taliban forces. Taliban forces have fought back against Pakistan with terrorist attacks and bombings that continue to ravage the nation. There have been a number of consequences from this war upon Pakistani society, one of particular importance to the U.S. is the increased anti-American sentiment. The war has also resulted in weak and widely unpopular leaders. The final major consequence this study examines is the increased conflict amongst the many ethnicities within Pakistan. Behavioral Science Unit
Behavioral Science Unit Behavioral Science Unit (BSU) was one of the original instructional components of the FBI's Training Division at Quantico, Virginia. Its mission was to develop and provide programs of training, research, and consultation in the behavioral andsocial sciences for the Federal Bureau of Investigation and law enforcement community that would improve or enhance their administration, operational effectiveness, and understanding of violent crime. The BSU was established in 1972 at the FBI Academy, and was disbanded in 2014. Through its legacy of training, research, and consultation activities, the BSU developed techniques, tactics, and procedures that have become a staple of behavioral-based programs that support the law enforcement, intelligence, and military communities. It is here where the term "serial killer" was coined and where criminal investigative analysis and "profiling" were developed. Many of these programs eventually developed into stand-alone programs, units, and centers such as the National Center for the Analysis of Violent Crime (NCAVC), Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU), Undercover Safeguard Unit, Crisis Negotiation Unit, Hostage Rescue Team, and Employee Assistance Unit. The mission of the BSU was to be the premier unit for developing and facilitating relevant programs of training, research, and consultation in the behavioral sciences for the FBI workforce, including the law enforcement, intelligence, and military communities that will improve their effectiveness in furtherance of the strategic priorities of the FBI. This is accomplished through the creation of innovative bodies of knowledge in specialty areas and applied research on significant behavioral science issues for use in training and consultation in support of academic, program, and operational matters. -

Donald Trump and the Future of U.S. Leadership: Some Observations on International Order, East Asia, and the Korean Peninsula Jonathan D. Pollack Senior Fellow and Interim SK-Korea Foundation Chair in Korea Studies, Foreign Policy The Brookings Institution **This paper was presented at the 5th Korea Research Institute for National Strategy-Brookings Institution Joint Conference on "The Trump Administration in the United States and the Future of East Asia and the Korean Peninsula" on February 8, 2017. The United States has never had a president like Donald Trump. He is a real estate investor, golf course developer, casino owner, product brander and television personality with no prior experience in government or in competing for elective office. He ran for president on the Republican ticket, but he has no enduring loyalties to either political party, although he has undeniably tied his political fortunes to the Republican Party. In decided contrast with other recent administrations, there is not a single Democrat in the Trump cabinet, and African- Americans, Asian-Americans, Latinos and women are all minimally represented. Many observers characterize Trump as a populist who speaks on behalf of marginalized citizens, especially those whose economic status has severely eroded during decades of deindustrialization and job loss. This support might have been pivotal to his victory in November, but his actions since the election do not reflect this supposed commitment. Some observers even characterize the new president as a working class billionaire, which constitutes an extraordinary feat in public relations. His cabinet consists largely of individuals with great personal wealth, including a billionaire (Wilbur Ross, the Secretary of Commerce) who profited handsomely from the purchase of depressed industrial assets and 1 shuttered coal mines at bargain prices.
