TME, vol. 18, nos. 1&2, p. 331 DanceSport and Power Values Diana Cheng Towson University, USA Peter Coughlin University of Maryland, USA ABSTRACT: DanceSport is a competitive form of ballroom dancing. At a DanceSport event, couples perform multiple dances in front of judges. This paper shows how a goal for a couple and the judges' eval- uations of the couple's dance performances can be used to formulate a weighted simple game. We explain why couples and their coaches may consider a variety of goals. We also show how prominent power values can be used to measure the contributions of dance performances to achieving certain goals. As part of our analysis, we develop novel visual representations of the Banzhaf and Shapley-Shubik index profiles for different thresholds. In addition, we show that the \quota paradox" is relevant for DanceSport events.

    Issued: 24 December 2020 ANNEX BROAD GUIDELINES BY SPORTING ACTIVITY FOR PHASE THREE Sport Grouping Sporting Activity Phase 3 - Sport Specific Guidelines (non-exhaustive) • Small groups of not more than 8 participants in total (additional 1 Coach / Instructor permitted). • Physical distancing of 2 metres (2 arms-length) should be maintained in general while exercising, unless engaging under the normal sport format. • Physical distancing of 3 metres (3 arms-length) is required for indoors high intensity or high movement exercise classes, unless engaging under the normal sport format. • No mixing between groups and maintain 3m distance apart at all times. • Masks should be worn by support staff and coach. Dance participation and attendance in Denmark Karol Jan Borowiecki Department of Business and Economics University of Southern Denmark email: [email protected] Catarina Marvão SITE-Stockholm School of Economics email: [email protected] Abstract: Dancing may be one of the most competitive professions available career-wise, but it is also associated with various positive externalities. Despite the importance of dancing, there is only limited understanding of the profiles of dancers and dance audiences. We fill the gap in the literature by exploiting survey data on cultural preferences and habits in Denmark for 2004. Our approach allows us to identify the socio-economic background of dancers as well as their involvement in other cultural activities. Among other factors, we note that dancers are more frequent attendees at dance performances, have typically lower income and tend to read more, play more video games and visit art exhibits more often. We are further able to disentangle the sample of dancers into various types of dances, allowing so interesting insights on the differences across dancers. By conducting interviews with a former exotic dancer and completing ethnographic observations in the field of an exotic dance club, I explore how exotic dancers in Bowling Green create and perform sexuality as a method of making money. Mo lam refers to an expert of lam singIng who Is routInely accompanIed by a mo khaen, a skIlled player of the bamboo panpIpe. DurIng 1972 and 1973, Dr. ChonpaIrot conducted fIeld studIes on Mo lam in northeast Thailand and Laos with Dr. Terry E. Miller. For many generatIons, LaotIan and Thai villagers have crossed the natIonal border constItuted by the Mekong RIver to visit relatIves and to partIcipate In regular festivals. However, ChonpaIrot and Miller’s fieldwork took place durIng the fInal stages of the VIetnam War which had begun more than a decade earlIer. DurIng theIr fIeldwork they collected cassette recordings of lam singIng from LaotIan radIo statIons In VIentIane and Savannakhet. ChonpaIrot also conducted fieldwork among Laotian artists living in Thai refugee camps. After the VIetnam War ended, many more Laotians who had worked for the AmerIcans fled to ThaI refugee camps. ChonpaIrot delIneated Mo lam regIonal melodIes coupled to specIfic IdentItIes In each locality of the music’s origin. He chose Lam Khon Savan from southern Laos for hIs dIssertation topIc, and also collected data from senIor Laotian mo lam tradItion-bearers then resIdent In the United States and France.     The President To the Delegates to the Lausanne, 11th June 2018 Annual General Meeting of the World DanceSport Federation (WDSF) in Lausanne, SWITZERLAND PRESIDENT’S REPORT TO THE 2018 WDSF ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING ON 17 JUNE 2018 IN LAUSANNE, SWITZERLAND Dear Fellow Delegates, Ladies and Gentlemen, For two decades, I submit annual reports on my activities as Treasurer, the office I was elected to in 1998, as First Vice-President after 2007 and – finally, starting in 2016 – as the President. Informing the Delegates to the General Meeting (AGM) as well as the members of the community at large about the various matters I tended to do over the course of one year was something I did with a sense of accomplishment and, yes, with outright pride. During the past two years and in the context of consecutive elections as President, I considered these reports to be particularly focussed on my vision for this federation and on where I planned to assign the priorities for my mandates. I can do no better than to refer to my written electoral programmes 2016 - 2017 and 2017 - 2021 to illustrate this point. It is all the more surprising that nine months after my last election to the term through 2021 – by a majority of 110 votes in favour, 13 votes in blank and none against – everything that my presidency stands for in terms of values and goals is put in question by motions for a vote of non-confidence. 1 I always take criticism for serious, irrespective of whether it is expressed by just one Member Federation or a larger group.

This paper argues that such dances were reminiscent of sex practices, and sup- ports this view with dance-historical and semantic evidence. For the history of Greek dance, I survey the literary evidence for the existence of a dance tradition that repre- sents lovers and their acts, and which would easily provide Comedy with dance vocab- ulary to distort. The semantic analysis of three comic passages, all criticising the New Music in sexual terms, shows a consistent overlapping between the semantic fields of eroticism and of bodily movement, with several terms indicating both figures of lovemaking and figures of dance. By performing comically revisited erotic dances or by verbally alluding to them, prostitutes would powerfully embody the conservative criticism of Old Comedy against the new trends in dance promoted by the New Music.
