Nursing Associates The Excellence Centre is currently working on the development of a levy-sharing process across the Humber, Coast and Vale. The purpose of this is to support non-levy paying organisations with costs relating to the Nursing Associate apprenticeship. It is also providing small organisations with facts and guidance about the Nursing Associate role; an information sharing session was delivered to Primary Care colleagues in North East Lincolnshire in September. Additionally, it is working with education providers on more flexible delivery offers for employers/staff that require it. For further information or to get involved, please contact please contact Danielle Hook, Project Manager.

Nursing Associate-Ready Scheme for Primary Care

A Nursing Associate-Ready Scheme information pack has been developed for Primary Care by the Haxby Group Training Hub in conjunction with Health Education England and the Excellence Centre. It provides practices in Humber, Coast and Vale with comprehensive information and advice on support for all aspects of the Nursing Associate role in general practice. If you are an employer in Primary Care interested in this role but would like further information or for further information about this scheme, please contact Danielle Hook, Project Manager.

Skills Passport The Excellence Centre undertook some exploratory work on the feasibility of a skills passport for staff in Humber, Coast and Vale. The aim was to reduce duplication of training and increase the transferability of skills and competencies across geographical and organisational boundaries. Due to a lack of demand and identified challenges, the project is being placed on hold. For further information please contact Danielle Hook, Project Manager.

Step into Health and Social Care Framework – AIEM Launch The Excellence Centre Team was invited to London to present the AIEM for Health and Social Care Framework at the HEE Talent for Care and Widening Participation Implementation Group. With a focus on diversity, inclusion and widening participation from disadvantaged or underrepresented groups, Talent for Care supports employers with their workforce supply through programmes such as schools engagement, volunteering, work experience, pre-employment activity, apprenticeships and access to higher education. The meeting was with all the HEE regional leads as well as leads from Skills for Health, Skills for Care, NHS Improvement, NHS England, DWP, Unison, National Skills for Health, Kings College and Princes Trust. The Framework was shared with a view to rolling it out nationally after the interest generated earlier in the year at the National Excellence Centre conference. Feedback was positive with a number of areas interested in adopting the model.

Career Pathway The career pathway is now available on our website. This interactive resource is designed to give those interested in a career in health and social care more information about the roles available, the experience you need to get the role and the career routes from it covering everything from an ambulance technician to a social worker. The resource includes a qualification matrix showing what training is available in the local area as well as useful links, job descriptions and case studies. This resource will be disseminated to careers advisors across the region to use as a tool to advise those interested in working in the sector.

Rotational Apprenticeships The Rotational Apprentice programme is developing across HCV with employers interested in how this can support the development of integrated roles that deliver place based care in our area. In Hull and East Riding, Care providers including East Riding of Yorkshire Council and larger independent care providers have agreed to employ Rotational Apprentices. Hull University Teaching Hospitals will provide the health placements for this first cohort of apprentices who are expected to begin on the programme in January 2020. An evaluation of the project benefits for both apprentices and employers will provide evidence to determine the future growth of the programme across Humber Coast and Vale. For further information, please contact Lynne MacDonald, Project Manager.

Apprenticeship Levy Since the introduction of the levy, employers across all sectors have had the opportunity to scale up their approach to embedding apprenticeships across organisations. To gain maximum value from the levy, employers have considered where they can use apprenticeships to address supply challenges, improve skills and develop the existing and future workforce. Levy-paying employers, who have not utilised all their levy, can transfer a maximum amount of 25% of their annual funds. They can make transfers from their apprenticeship account to as many employers as they choose. Transferred funds will be used to pay for the training and assessment cost of the apprenticeships agreed with the receiving employer. In HCV a process for levy sharing is being considered which will benefit the system and help address priority areas in Health and Care. By utilising organisations unspent levy we could develop a process to support the wider delivery of apprenticeships across each locality and help reduce the amount of unspent levy being returned to central government. For further information, please contact Lynne MacDonald, Project Manager. Career Confidence The Career Confidence programme, led by NLaG, ensures that the workforce is developed within the context of the integration agenda locally and nationally. This intention points to a number of drivers that highlight the need for us to adopt a robust approach to workforce planning. These drivers include the financial imperative to make best use of the potential workforce, the pressure to deliver better services to our patients and the importance of continuing to develop our staff and promote our ethos of developing young people from disadvantaged groups. The project team now has structures in place across the locality (previously only in Scunthorpe) to support Career Confidence – both the Health Academy in Scunthorpe and the Centre for Professional Development in Grimsby will cover engagement with all high schools and colleges; the Children’s University will cover primary schools. Work is underway regarding the governance for programmes and a meeting has been arranged with all organisations (HA, CFPD, NLaG and the Excellence centre) to coordinate activities for the next 6 month period.
