Peters at: [email protected] Entries for Draft Horse, & Pony Divisions Close July 1, 2015 ATTENTION ALL EXHIBITORS RULING FROM THE STATE FIRE MARSHALL Tents, canopies or tarps used over stalls must be 3 feet from the sprinkler system above the stalls in the Gilligan Building. All stall coverings must be non- combustible or made of flame resistant material and must be labeled as such. Cooking appliances, heating appliances or any other unapproved open flame shall be prohibited inside the building. ***NO SMOKING IS PERMITTED IN THE BUILDING! *** All stalls with canopies, tents or tarps must have a single station smoke detector and a portable fire extinguisher rated at least 2—A 10—B; C in each covered stall and/or covered aisle way. Any exhibitor NOT in compliance will be asked to remove their stall curtains and canopies. All extension cords used with fans or extra lighting MUST be Heavy Duty, Grounded, and UL approved. CAMPER SPACE There will be limited camper space for exhibitors north of 17th Avenue. Both partial hook-up and full hook-up are available on a first come first serve basis. Horses are not allowed north of 17th Ave. Non compliance will result in animals being barred from further participation at this show. Electrical outlets will be available in camper space only. No tents allowed. Permits may be purchased at Gate Entrance to camper area. These fees are paid upon arrival per night. DO NOT INCLUDE WITH ENTRY FEES!!! The following classes and/or divisions at this show are not conducted under the rules of USEF, but rather they are conducted under the rules of their respective breed associations. Some special conditions may be addressed. Please check individual pages. Draft Horse, Draft Ponies & Haflinger Horse Show MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES The State of Ohio, through the Ohio Expositions Commission, the Horse Show Committee, the General Manager and its employees, herein after referred to as the Management, will not be responsible for any damages to person, animal, or property at the show, or on the grounds, nor will be responsible for any property lost or destroyed. Each exhibitor shall indemnify and save the Management, harmless from all claims and demands of any kind or nature arising from such exhibitor, his employees, animals, or property exhibiting on or in the show grounds. Judges may not award prize to an unworthy exhibit. It is the intention of the Ohio State Fair Management that no recognition of any kind shall be given to any animal or article that is not deserving. This rule must be strictly adhered to whether or not there is competition. EXHIBITOR’S RESPONSIBILITIES (1) DISCIPLINE Exhibitors are warned that any act of discourtesy or disobedience to the officials on the part of the owner, groom or driver, will disqualify the horse. This applies in or out of the ring and while on the fairgrounds. This includes ANY employee of the Horse Show Office or any Ohio State Fair employee. HORSES ARE NOT ALLOWED BEYOND THE GREEN WALL IN THE GILLIGAN BUILDING AT ANY TIME. THOSE VIOLATING THIS WILL BE ASKED TO LEAVE THE GROUNDS. (2) ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES Public consumption of alcoholic beverages on the Ohio State Fairgrounds is prohibited. 3 (3) POSTED SIGNS All posted signs or instructions, whatever they may be, will be strictly enforced. Any discourtesy to any Fair Official, State Highway Patrol or other officials wearing official badges will subject the exhibitors to the penalties listed below. (4) DISCOURTESY Any discourtesy to any Fair Official, State Highway Patrol or other officials wearing official badges will cause the person, their stable and their owners to forfeit any earnings won at the Ohio State Fair Horse Show. The entire stable may be asked to leave the grounds whether they are finished showing or not. (5) LIABILITY All owners and exhibitors will be held responsible for any damage incurred by them or their agents to barns or other properties on the show grounds and will be billed accordingly. Failure to make payment will subject the exhibitor to the penalties listed below. (6) DOGS **Dogs will only be permitted on the grounds under the following conditions. Dogs MUST be on a leash or confined in a stall. No Dogs will be tethered in the aisle, or running loose in the aisle. No dogs’ on/off leashes are allowed in the coliseum. Failure to comply in this will be cause for expulsion from fairgrounds. **THERE WILL BE NO BICYCLES, HOVERBOARDS,SEGWAYS ,DRONES, SKATEBOARDS, ROLLERBLADES OR SKATES ALLOWED ON THE SHOW GROUNDS. NOTE: Violation of any of the provisions listed above will subject the Entry and/or Exhibitor to such penalty as the Management may impose, including disqualifications, removal from the grounds, forfeiting all awards, entry and stall fees, as well as refusal of future entries. ENTRIES & POST ENTRIES Entries can be made until July 1st, 2016 at no additional post entry fee. Entries postmarked after July 1ST, 2016 will have an additional 50% of entry fee added. Horses that are not entered before arrival may not have stall space available. No totally new entries will be accepted after July 16, 2016 in any draft related division without direct consultation with the horse show office. Entries received with postmarks after July 1st will pay a stall penalty as well as an additional 50% entry fee. READ – IMPORTANT All entries must be submitted with a check covering all fees by the dates below. THIS MEANS POSTMARKED BY: Entries Close for Draft horse, Draft pony & Haflinger Horses on July 1, 2016 Entries may be delivered to the Horse Show Office. Richardson, S. Yorkshire, UK The Shire Horse is the most numerous and largest of the heavy horses found in Great Britain. The recognised colours in the breed are black, bay, brown and grey. The height of the stallions should be 17.2 hands at maturity with mares a hand smaller. However, many of the leading prizewinners are up to and over 18.00 hands. The characteristic of the Shire is the nice silky feather on the legs, obtained from crossing with Clydesdales in the early 50's to alleviate the grease problems in the older type Shire. More recently the market pressures are wanting white legs to make the best use of the action and presence of the breed in the show ring, particularly in turnout classes. The history of the breed goes back to the medieval "Great Horse" used in time of war to carry knights in armour weighing up to 400lbs.

    List of horse breeds 1 List of horse breeds This page is a list of horse and pony breeds, and also includes terms used to describe types of horse that are not breeds but are commonly mistaken for breeds. While there is no scientifically accepted definition of the term "breed,"[1] a breed is defined generally as having distinct true-breeding characteristics over a number of generations; its members may be called "purebred". In most cases, bloodlines of horse breeds are recorded with a breed registry. However, in horses, the concept is somewhat flexible, as open stud books are created for developing horse breeds that are not yet fully true-breeding. Registries also are considered the authority as to whether a given breed is listed as Light or saddle horse breeds a "horse" or a "pony". There are also a number of "color breed", sport horse, and gaited horse registries for horses with various phenotypes or other traits, which admit any animal fitting a given set of physical characteristics, even if there is little or no evidence of the trait being a true-breeding characteristic. Other recording entities or specialty organizations may recognize horses from multiple breeds, thus, for the purposes of this article, such animals are classified as a "type" rather than a "breed".     Horse Breeds in Medieval Role-playing Games Throughout the Middle Ages the horse was a powerful symbol of social differences but also a tool for the farmer, merchant and fighting classes. While the species varied considerably, as did their names, here is a summary of the main types encountered across Medieval Europe. Great Horse - largest (15-16 hands) and heaviest (1.5-2t) of horses, these giants were the only ones capable of bearing a knight in full plate armour. However such horses lacked speed and endurance. Thus they were usually reserved for tourneys and jousts. Modern equivalent would be a «shire horse». Mules - commonly used as a beast of burden (to carry heavy loads or pull wagons) but also occasionally as a mount. As mules are often both calmer and hardier than horses, they were particularly useful for strenuous support tasks, such as hauling supplies over difficult terrain. Hobby – a tall (13-14 hands) but lightweight horse which is quick and agile. Developed in Ireland from Spanish or Libyan (Barb) bloodstock. This type of quick and agile horse was popular for skirmishing, and was often ridden by light cavalry. Apparently capable of covering 60-70 miles a single day. Sumpter or packhorse - a small but heavier horse with excellent endurance. Used to carry baggage, this horse could be ridden albeit uncomfortably. The modern equivalent would be a “cob” (2-3 mark?). Rouncy - a smaller and well-rounded horse that was both good for riding and carrying baggage. Its widespread availability ensured it remained relatively affordable (10-20 marks?) compared to other types of steed.

    We are delighted to have received so much support in the Equine section for the 2021 Show. The equine exhibitor packs will be sent out in early July. Please find the list of entries per class. We would strongly advise that you do not plan your day based on these figures, as some entries may not come forward. If a class is not well supported on the day for any reason, the Judge cannot wait – they will just continue to judge the other classes in the section. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Please note, there is a change to the Timetable in regard to the M&M Lead Rein & First Ridden section. They are still being held in the Ridings Ring on Thursday but will now start at 12.30pm instead of the previously scheduled time. The Lead Rein class will be held at 12.30pm followed by the First Ridden.
