Nin Ghosts I Remixed
The story of... ‘‘ What a beautiful day ! ’’ NiN Ghosts I remixed In cauda venenum by-nc-sa/3.0/us/ What a beautiful day ! - NiN Ghosts I remixed Sunday, March 2, Year two thousand and eight : What a beautiful day ! Trent Reznor, the demiurge behind Nine Inch Nails has just boldly freed himself from traditional restraints to free dissemination. Ghosts I-IV, last NIN album to date, has been released without the help of any record company and the first 9 tracks are available in free download on the band's website. NIN releases the whole album and its graphics and covers under a Creative Commons by-nc-sa licence. This means any person who adquired the album, either by purchasing or downloading is by now free to share it, sample or remix it, under the following conditions : attribute the work in the manner specified by the author, and not use it for commercial purpose. This initiative obviously runs counter to digital locking systems set up by the recording industry, and counter to its hollow fight against "piracy". By choosing the free licences, Reznor prooves that the music may be shared freely, and that "free" music is not necessarily "cheap" music, which would be of lesser quality than "commercial" music. Doing this, Reznor prooves also that free dissemination is by no way uncompatible with some kind of trade, as the Ghosts I-IV album was actually sold, in lossless digital format as well as in limited edition cds. Nine Inch Nails affords the luxury to conciliate profitability and sharing. Let's hope the idea makes many followers. -
Tesi Del Dott. Jacopo Conti: Minimalismo ... -.:: Franco Fabbri
1 PREMESSA “King Crimson was more a revolving door than a band. -

Toivo Burlin: The creation (and re-creation) of virtual spatiality: Surround sound mixing in King Crimson’s back catalog box sets Abstract: The article analyzes surround mixing of King Crimson’s analog recordings. “Lizard,” “Larks’ Tongues in Aspic (Part 1),” “The Night Watch,” “Trio,” and “One Time” are analyzed using the theoretical perspec- tives of the music recording as representation and spatial design. There is a difference between live and studio recordings in surround: live recordings tend to be mixed according to the direct/ambient principle, while studio re- cordings are mixed according to the principle of direct-sound all around. Live recordings in surround can also often be understood as examples of documentarism, and studio recordings as examples of hyper realism. The spatial design of the surround mix tends to emphasize aspects of spatiality in the broad sense: where the recording can, for example, be interpreted as a landscape in sound. Introduction This essay discusses some tendencies in the emerging conventions in con- temporary surround mixing of popular music. -

A One-Sheet on Their Debut CD The
ttthethe aristocrats [boing ] * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * The debut album from instrumental rock/fusion’s rowdy new power trio: Guitarist Guthrie Govan, bassist Bryan Beller, and drummer Marco Minnemann. Catalog: BM -00001 * Street Date: Sept ember 13 , 2011 * UPC: 013964643466 The Aristocrats is the eponymous debut album from instrumental rock/fusion’s rowdy new power trio featuring guitarist Guthrie Govan (Asia/GPS, Dizzee Rascal) bassist Bryan Beller (Steve Vai, Dethklok, Mike Keneally), and drummer Marco Minnemann (Adrian Belew, UKZ, Necrophagist). Featuring three compositions from each band member, the album showcases a uniquely explosive band chemistry, translating each individual’s well-known virtuosity into an aggressive, melodic, and sometimes even cheeky group dynamic…in which anything goes. The band was formed practically by demand after a wildly enthusiastic response to a single performance at The Anaheim Bass Bash during the Winter NAMM show in January. With just one rehearsal the night before the gig, the trio unexpectedly floored the audience – and themselves – with near-telepathic interplay and boundless musical energy, leaving heads shaking in disbelief that it was their very first gig. “The chemistry was so great,” recalls Govan, who was just featured on the cover of Guitar Player , “that when we came offstage we all said to each other, ‘This is working. We should record this.’” Not content simply to rush together a remote recording, each far-flung band member left their homes (outside London; Nashville, TN; southern California) to meet in a Chicago studio and track the record in person, which took just under two weeks. The music became a melting pot of their respective influences, ranging from ’70s fusion (Return To Forever) to prog (King Crimson, UK) to instrumental rock (Vai, Satriani) to groove metal (Rage Against The Machine) to just plain absurdity (Frank Zappa). -

This EP, Melancholy Breakdown has a unique, distinct and identifiable sound with strong melodic guitar hooks that stick to your musical memory. Songs include driving rock-solid bass & drums, thick crunchy guitars and vocal hooks with a hint of mid 60’s pop-psychedelic bridges. The defining musicality of the 80’s and 90’s are pulled together by Goebelt’s smooth, buoyant voice and lyrics that ride the songs through a visual vocal landscape. Religion and the Arts 21 (2017) 236–258 RELIGION and the ARTS brill.com/rart “Turning Ourselves” Fripp, Bennett, Gurdjieff David G. Robertson University of Edinburgh Abstract In 1974, Robert Fripp—leader of the progressive rock group King Crimson—had a spiritual experience in which “the top of [his] head blew off.” He became a student of J. G. Bennett, himself a former student of G. I. Gurdjieff, at Sherborne House in Gloucestershire, and remains a member of the Bennett Foundation to this day. When Fripp returned to the music industry, it was with an approach that favored disciplined and geometric compositions over the jagged improvisation of the earlier period. This article explores the influence of Gurdjieff and Bennett’s teaching upon Fripp and his work, and his apparent attempts to realize the former’s idea of “objective art” through his music. I pay particular attention to the development of Guitar Craft, in which Fripp applies Gurdjieff’s techniques through the teaching of the guitar. I argue that Fripp’s teaching is a little examined scion of the Gurdjieff lineage, and a case study of discrete cultural production. Keywords Robert Fripp – G. I. Gurdjieff – J. G.
