Gaëlle MECHALY Soprano Gaëlle MECHALY Soprano www.gaellemechaly.com Gaëlle Mechaly studied music at the CNR in Marseille where she won four gold medals for her piano performance (Pierre Barbizet class), for her part in chamber music and for her skills at singing including singing for the opera. She has won several international contests as prestigious as the Henry Sauguet award “Prix de la Sacem, Mélodie française du XXème siècle”, “Prix Yves-Saint- Laurent”, semi finalist in the Cardiff singer of the world.... Her musical career, rich and eclectic, extends from baroque to opéra comique, from musicals to contemporary music. Critics praised her for her vocal virtuosity, the clearness of her timber, her performances and her stage presence. She has performed on the greatest Palais Garnier, Royal Albert Hall, Tokyo Kioi Hall, Melbourne Recital Center, the BAM, New York Alice Tully Hall, Fenice of Venice... under the direction of Ricardo Muti, Bernard Soustrot, Yoram David, Emmanuelle Haïm. Faithful to William Christie and Hervé Niquet, Gaëlle Mechaly has sang in important baroque music festivals (Ambronay, Beaune, Versailles, Edinburgh, Amster- dam, Cologne) and in the Aix-en-Provence festival. She recorded Zo- roastre which was nominated for the 46th USA Grammy Awards in 2004. She has been working with contemporary composers such as Kaija Saariaho (The tempesta) and Thierry Pecou (L’Amour coupable) and with film music composers such as Gabriel Yared (Oscar for the Best Music, Original Dramatic Score – “The English Patient”), Patrick Doyle, Bruno Coulais and Nicolas Piovani. She is regularly invited to perform during prestigious celebrations such as the European Film Academy Awards in Ghent, Munich, Berlin, Tallinn and at the Beiteddine Festival in Lebanon ... She wrote the songs “Une Danse” from the movie The Black Box and “Lullaby for Dorothy” from the movie Dorothy. In 2015, she collaborated with Nathaniel Méchaly in writing “Let me Weep” for the Taken 3 soundtrack and a year later “A Sami Lullaby” for the series Midnight Sun with Leïla Bekhti broadcast on Canal +. The beautiful music begins tonight with a double bill of 1981's "Woman Next Door," composed by Georges Delerue, and 2001's "Read My Lips," scored by Alexandre Desplat. Michel Legrand supplied the score for 1968's "The Thomas Crown Affair," screening Friday with Michel Colombier's score for 1984's "Against All Odds." His extensive use of tone rows and permutations throughout the entire score helped to create the diegetic world so integral to the success of the filM. GoldsMith’s formative years prior to 1967–his training and day to day experience of writing Music for draMatic situations—were critical factors in preparing hiM to meet this challenge. A review of the research on music and eMotion, together with an analysis of GoldsMith’s methods, shows how, in 1967, he was able to create an expressive twelve-tone score which supported the narrative of the filM. The score for Planet of the Apes Marks a pivotal moment in an industry with a long-standing bias toward modernist music. iii For Mary and Bruno Gassi.
