Welcome to Young 5’s Kindergarten! Meet your teacher: Mrs. Bishop Welcome to Young Fives Kindergarten! We are going to have an AMAZING year of learning together. I can’t wait to dive into learning with you! I am very eager to begin the school year with engaging and exciting activities for Knapp’s young learners. I am a graduate of Western Michigan University with a degree in Elementary Education with an emphasis on Early Childhood, Social Studies, Science, and Language Arts. This fall will be my fourth year at Knapp and my twenty-fifth year teaching. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family; husband Scott and children Hillary (19) and Grant (17). As a family, we love watching movies, attending sporting events, spending time together, and traveling. In my free time I enjoy reading, painting, watching movies, shopping and spending time creating new things to explore and teach my students. I am so very excited to start our journey of learning. We are going to have a wonderful time! Enjoy your summer. I can’t wait to see you in the fall! Supply List: **Please do not label supplies with your child’s name. There is a lot of opportunity for growth in their motor, social, and emotional skills. We use Zoo phonics for letter sounds and recognition, Haggerty and Tara West Literacy and Handwriting Without Tears. We also use themes to guide our learning and discover more about our world. A few themes that we cover include Penguins, Dinosaurs, Fall, Plants, and Gingerbread stories. Exciting Opportunities With school of choice, parents have an opportunity to choose a school for their child. With that in mind, parents have to look at many different aspects of a school and decide which would be the best fit for their child and allow their child to develop academically. Knapp Academy has the best of both of these: a perfect fit for any child and exceptional academics. Knapp teachers greet students at their doors with a warm welcome and handshake making students feel appreciated and cared for as soon as they enter the classroom. With that mindset, students feel more comfortable to express themselves and try their best in class. Students also participate in activities where they get to know each other, respect differences, and learn from each other’s strengths. A Standard of Excellence The Young 5’s and Kindergarten team is very focused on making sure your child meets all of their educational objectives. We take pride in giving every student the best educational experience and we do this by teaching the students at their own individual level. We work closely with one another to make sure that we are sharing our strengths and weaknesses as a team. We meet weekly to plan strategies and resources that will best meet the state objectives as well as the needs of our students. Meet the 1st Grade Team I am a graduate of Aquinas College with a Social Studies Major and Early Childhood Endorsement. This year will be my 19th year of teaching at Knapp following 20 years as a preschool teacher. I love teaching first grade here at Knapp Charter Academy! I am married and have four fabulous children: Sara and her husband Teddy; Kevin and his wife Stephanie; Michael, and Jake. I also have five grandchildren Kylee, Dylan, Archie, Sadie, and Zoe. My favorite thing about teaching first grade is to witness how much each child grows and becomes a confident reader by the end of the school year! I hope to see a lot of parental support as we work together to help your child achieve and have academic Mrs. Dabkowski success. Hello and welcome to first grade! I graduated from Cornerstone University amidst the craziness this last spring with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education and minors in reading and language arts. This will be my first year teaching at Knapp. I did my student teaching in a first grade classroom and was thrilled to receive a teaching job in first grade as well. I have a passion for building relationships with students and love to see them make connections both academically and socially.
