Evelyne Godfrey is an archaeological scientist and a longstanding Labour Party and Co-operative Party member and activist. She runs a local heritage co-operative in Uffington, where she has also served as a parish councillor and trustee of the local museum. Evelyne is a registered director of the International Council of Museums, UK, a council member of the British Archaeological Trust (RESCUE), and Chair of the Institute of Conservation Archaeological Group.

Evelyne’s main interest is in Planning Policy, Housing and the Historic Environment. She advocates for community land trusts and co-operative housing to tackle the widespread affordability crisis.

Evelyne wants to CHANGE THINGS FOR THE BETTER FOR THE VILLAGES in this Division. She opposes the Tory County Council asset-stripping the landscape and heritage and notes its failure to keep proper records of what is being lost as a result of profiteering development and gravel extraction.

The Tories have cut rural bus services, affecting the young, elderly, and disabled. Our largest village, Berinsfield has only one regular bus service serving Oxford and Reading only. It is accessed from the B4074, not the centre of the village. Residents of Culham cite HGV vehicles making traffic conditions in morning and evening as ‘unbearable’. Evelyne will support community partnerships to help solve these problems. Planning for the Community The Tory government has turned its face away from any attempt to find mutual and cooperative solutions to the housing crisis. New social housing is starved of funding. We need more homes but they must be permanently affordable. Evelyne will work hard to address the affordability crisis by promoting Co-operative Housing and Community Land Trusts and protect the Historic Environment in the Planning process. Schools, Children’s Centres, Libraries and Museums These public services are the cement that helps communities thrive. They are being systematically starved of funds by a Tory administration that wants to shed these responsibilities, cut their funding, let them wither on the vine or hand them over to the private sector. Evelyne will fight to save these vital services. Health and Social Care Evelyne will support the County Labour Party who are fighting to keep these services public, oppose so-called ‘reforms’ that downgrade or close hospitals and surgeries and fail to provide adequate social care.
