Andy Warhol. Performance. Vida & obra. Bioescrita. ABSTRACT BARROS, Juliana Carvalho de Araujo de. We will also use biographical and critical contributions (Fernanda Medeiros, Sergio Cohn, Arthur Danto, Tony Scherman, David Dalton, Octavio Paz, Nicolas Bourriaud, besides Warhol and Chacal bioescritas) in order to investigate these articulations seeking to establish the analytical frameworks of similarities and differences between the two in their production and reception contexts. • Archives of American Art Journal, Vol. 49 Nos. 1-2: the Anniversary Issue
From the director This year marks the fiftieth anniversary of theArchives of American Art Journal. What started as a modest pamphlet for announcing new acquisitions and other Archives’ activities soon blossomed into one of the signature publications for the dissemination of new research in the field of American art history. During its history, the Archives has published the work of most of the leading thinkers in the field. The list of contributors is far too long to include, but choose a name and most likely their bibliography will include an essay for the Journal. To celebrate this occasion, we mined the Journal’s archive and reprinted some of the finest and most representative work to have appeared in these pages in the past five decades. Additionally, we invited several leading scholars to prepare short testimonies to the value of the Journal and to the crucial role that the Archives has played in advancing not only their own work, but its larger mission to foster a wider appreciation and deeper understanding of American art and artists. I’m particularly grateful to Neil Harris, Patricia Hills, Gail Levin, Lucy Lippard, and H. Barbara Weinberg for their thoughtful tributes to the Journal. Additionally, I’d like to thank David McCarthy, Gerald Monroe, H. Barbara Weinberg, and Judith Zilczer for their essays. And I would like to make a very special acknowledgement to Garnett McCoy, who served as the Journal’s editor for thirty years. As our current editor Darcy Tell points out, the Journal’s vigor and intellectual rigor owe much to Garnett’s stewardship and keen Endpapers inspired by the Artists' Union logo.

  • By Stanislaw Mucha
BY HOPE STANISLAW MUCHA HOPE SYNOPSIS HOPE BY STANISLAW MUCHA When a deeply moral and well-respected art historian steals an invaluable painting from a church, righteous and fanatic Francis records the crime on video to blackmail the perpetrator. Much to the thief’s bafflement, the young man is not interested in money but demands that the piece of art be returned to its original place. The borders between idealism and madness blur when it is revealed that Francis’ brother is in jail and his girlfriend has to tolerate Francis’ bizarre self-afflicted tests of courage … STANISLAW MUCHA DIRECTOR Born in 1970 in Nowy Targ, Poland, Stanislaw Mucha studied acting at the Federal Theater Academy “Ludwik Solski” in Krakow´ . After initial successes as an actor, Mucha left Poland to study directing at the The Film & Television Academy (HFF) “Konrad Wolf” in Potsdam-Babelsberg. He became well-known for his quirky documentary ABSOLUT WARHOLA (2001) tracing the origins of the US pop artist Andy Warhol to Poland, Slovakia and the Ukraine. HOPE is Mucha’s first feature film. DIRECTOR’S COMMENTS CAST DIRECTOR’S HOPE Franciszek/Francis HOPE is the story of extortion. An acclaimed art historian and moral authority steals a RAFAL FUDALEJ precious painting from a church… and is caught by a young fanatical do-gooder. Klara/Clare KAMILLA BAAR Hope. You know: “the mother of the stupid”, “hope springs eternal”, etc. I think that Benedykt/Benedict hope is an indispensable element of life. In every life; in my life too. While observing WOJCIECH PSZONIAK reality I feel as if there is no hope, as if it should be invented as fast as you can.

Through the visionary lens of fashion, Bellissima. Italy and High Fashion 1945-1968 (December 2, 2014 – May 3, 2015), curated by Maria Luisa Frisa, Anna Mattirolo, Stefano Tonchi, portrays Italian culture at a time of extraordinary creativity in cinema, art, architecture, theater, and photography. The exhibition will recreate the alluring atmosphere of Italian high fashion at a time when designers like Emilio Schuberth, Sorelle Fontana, Germana Marucelli, Mila Schön, Valentino, Simonetta, Roberto Capucci, Fernanda Gattinoni, Fendi, Renato Balestra, Biki, Irene Galitzine, Emilio Pucci, Fausto Sarli and many more were making important contributions to the image of Italy around the world. The main partner of this event is Bulgari, the most famous Italian jewelry house in the world and a symbol of style and creativity for the past 130 years. A richly illustrated book, in collaboration with Altaroma, pays tribute to the cities and personalities that helped write one of the most beautiful chapters in the history of Italian life and culture. The book is published by Electa. A display installation by the architect Maria Giuseppina Grasso Cannizzo will highlight the relationship between the worlds of art and cinema. Clothing, accessories, and jewelry will be shown alongside important works of art. The backdrop for this visual extravaganza is Rome - the star of the Jubilee in 1950 and of the Olympics in 1960, the city of cinema and Hollywood divas, of the Via Veneto and the Dolce Vita - as well as cityscapes of Turin, Milan, Florence, Venice and Naples.
