Instead, it was Spider-Girl who faced the new Green Goblin, and twin legacies were born anew. Peter and Mary Jane Parker initially forbade May from adopting her new role, but they soon realized that their protests were in vain, and Peter chose to help teach his daughter the skills she would need to survive. As Spider- Girl, May encountered many new villains and allies in her war against crime. Most importantly, she convinced Nor- man Jr. to abandon his pointless feud, and they co-founded a loosely banded super-team of "New Warriors." In a battle with the super-villain Killerwatt, who controlled electricity, Spider-Girl was severely shocked. This apparently caused her to lose her powers, until, in a battle with the new Spider-Man, she fell into a generator, where she was, again, shocked severely. -

The Source of data that the user is taken from the original subtitle of the movie. This study formulated two research questions concerning the form of dark jokes and translation technique in the subtitle of dark jokes. This study applied the theory of Molina and Albir (2002) to analyze the translation technique. The result of this study finds two forms of dark jokes which are dialogue and monologue. Both of form has 6 data of the study. Then, the study found 7 translation techniques that were used in translating dark jokes of the Joker movie 2019 subtitle. Those are adaptation, borrowing, Linguistic Amplification, Linguistic compression, Literal Translation, Modulation, and Reduction. Translation techniques used were 7 linguistic compressions, 7 literal translation, 3 adaptation, 2 borrowings, 2 modulations, 1 linguistic amplification, 1 reduction. Linguistic compression and literal translation are a most applied technique that used in dark jokes of joker movie subtitle.. PRIVILEGED ATTORNEY-CLIENT COMMUNICATION EXECUTIVE SUMMARY SECOND AMENDED AND RESTATED LICENSE AGREEMENT (“SPIDER-MAN”) CREATIVE ISSUES This memo summarizes certain terms of the Second Amended and Restated License Agreement (“Spider-Man”) between SPE and Marvel, effective September 15, 2011 (the “Agreement”). 1. CHARACTERS AND OTHER CREATIVE ELEMENTS: a. Exclusive to SPE: . The “Spider-Man” character, “Peter Parker” and essentially all existing and future alternate versions, iterations, and alter egos of the “Spider- Man” character. All fictional characters, places structures, businesses, groups, or other entities or elements (collectively, “Creative Elements”) that are listed on the attached Schedule 6. All existing (as of 9/15/11) characters and other Creative Elements that are “Primarily Associated With” Spider-Man but were “Inadvertently Omitted” from Schedule 6. The Agreement contains detailed definitions of these terms, but they basically conform to common-sense meanings. If SPE and Marvel cannot agree as to whether a character or other creative element is Primarily Associated With Spider-Man and/or were Inadvertently Omitted, the matter will be determined by expedited arbitration. All newly created (after 9/15/11) characters and other Creative Elements that first appear in a work that is titled or branded with “Spider-Man” or in which “Spider-Man” is the main protagonist (but not including any team- up work featuring both Spider-Man and another major Marvel character that isn’t part of the Spider-Man Property). The origin story, secret identities, alter egos, powers, costumes, equipment, and other elements of, or associated with, Spider-Man and the other Creative Elements covered above. The story lines of individual Marvel comic books and other works in which Spider-Man or other characters granted to SPE appear, subject to Marvel confirming ownership. -

From my point of view, every performance by a powerful character like Wonder Woman, Daisy Duke, or Princess Leia, served to highlight her drive, ability, and intellect in a wholly uncomplicated way. What I did not notice then was the often-problematic performances of female power that accompanied those narratives. As a performance studies and theatre scholar, with a decades’ old love of all things popular culture, I began to ponder the troubling question: Why are there so many popular narratives focused on female characters who are, on a surface level, portrayed as bastions of strength, that fall woefully short of being true representations of empowerment when subjected to close analysis? In an endeavor to answer this question, in this dissertation I examine what I contend are some of the paradoxical performances of female heroism, womanhood, and feminine aggression from the 1960s to the 1990s. To facilitate this investigation, I engage in close readings of several key aesthetic and cultural texts from these decades. While the Wonder Woman comic book universe serves as the centerpiece of this study, I also consider troublesome performances and representations of female power in the television shows Bewitched, I Dream of Jeannie, and Buffy the Vampire Slayer, the film Grease, the stage musical Les Misérables, and the video game Tomb Raider. -
The Political Appropriation of Foreign Comic Book Superheroes in Korea
Situations 8.2 (2015): 49–65 ISSN: 2288–7822 Embedding Nostalgia: The Political Appropriation of Foreign Comic Book Superheroes in Korea Roald Maliangkay (Australian National University) Abstract Comic books have long expressed socio–political concerns and objectives, regardless of their origin. This article examines the political appropriation of foreign comic book superheroes in Korea. By contemplating a range of examples of such forms of appropriation, I show that one and the same foreign superhero can represent different socio–political views, including anti–communism, orientalism, and patriotism. I argue that because they are associated with innocence, superheroes can be used to summon nostalgia and a strong sense of community, even among those who were unexposed or indifferent to them. This strong association with the local culture allows them to be politicized and stands in the way of the icons becoming truly transnational.1 Keywords: anti–communist, appropriation, comic book, nostalgia, politics, South Korea, superhero, Tokto, webtoon 50 Roald Maliangkay Introduction Stories of superheroes are as old as religion, but in the form of comic books their history barely exceeds half a century. Although local heroes continue to exist and occupy a significant share of the market in many countries across Asia, the notion of a superhero has become increasingly associated with the imaginary universes created by DC and Marvel Comics. Icons of these universes have been known throughout Asia for some time. In 1949, Western superheroes began to circulate in Asia for the first time when National Periodicals (later DC Comics) licensed the Japanese publisher Shōnengahōsha–ban to publish translations of Superman.2 Similar licenses began to be issued in Indonesia in the 1950s,3 and throughout the region from around the 1970s. -

In spiders the five pairs of appendages of the prosoma (one of the two main body sections) that follow the chelicerae are the pedipalps followed by four pairs of walking legs. The pedipalps are modified to serve as mating organs by mature male spiders. These modifications are often very complicated and differences in their structure are important characteristics used by araneologists in the classification of spiders. Pedipalps in female spiders are structurally much simpler and are used for sensing, manipulating food and sometimes in locomotion. It is relatively easy to tell mature or nearly mature males from female spiders (at least in most groups) by looking at the pedipalps -- in females they look like functional but small legs while in males the ends tend to be enlarged, often greatly so. In young spiders these differences are not evident. There are also appendages on the opisthosoma (the rear body section, the one with no walking legs) the best known being the spinnerets. In the first spiders there were four pairs of spinnerets. Living spiders may have four e.g., (liphistiomorph spiders) or three pairs (e.g., mygalomorph and ecribellate araneomorphs) or three paris of spinnerets and a silk spinning plate called a cribellum (the earliest and many extant araneomorph spiders). Spinnerets' history as appendages is suggested in part by their being projections away from the opisthosoma and the fact that they may retain muscles for movement Much of the success of spiders traces directly to their extensive use of silk and poison.
