ALHAARTH INTIKHAB Shadwell’s takes u.s. classic & lands u.s. group 1

Jazil ran smoothly from the rear to challenge the leaders, and on the Focus On 2 home stretch powered past favourite and Derby runner up Bluegrass Cat taking the third leg of the American Triple Crown by 1¼ lengths. Derrinstown Apprentice Series 2

This was a strong comeback for Jazil after finishing in a dead heat for Derrinstown Derby Trial 2 forth place in the Kentucky Derby in May. He is now being aimed at the Breeders’ Cup Classic. Marju on a Royal 3 Connections of the winner were jockey Fernando Jara, trainer Kiaran McLaughlin and Shadwell Farm in Kentucky. Alhaarth (1993, by ) is out of Irish Valley (by Irish River) and is a homebred. Irish Valley is half sister to multple Gr. 1 winner Green Dancer (Nijinsky) and Alhaarth is half brother to blacktype winner Green Pola (Nijinsky) winner of the Gr. 3 .

As a 2yo Alhaarth was undefeated in 5 races and crowned ‘Champion 2 YO’ of Europe in 1995. Focus A proven top class juvenile, he won 8 races overall. Among his victories were the Gr. 1 Generous , Gr. 2 Laurent Perrier Champagne Stakes, Gr. 3 Lanson Vintage Stakes, on Gr. 3 Solario Stakes, Gr. 2 Prix du Rond-Point, Gr. 2 Prix Dollar and Gr.2 Budweiser . He also gained placings in 5 other Group races including Gr. 1 Sussex alhaarth Stakes and Gr. 1 Champion Stakes.

Alhaarth stood his first season at Derrinstown Stud in 1998. The caliber of his progeny are top notch and include Group 1 winners and Phoenix Reach. Global star Phoenix Reach’s victories include Gr. 1 Cathay Pacific Hong Kong Vase, Gr. 1 Pattison Canadian International Stakes and Gr. 1 Dubai Water Front . He is now being aimed at the Gr. 1 Arlington Million in Chicago in August. Haafhd, a Classic winner for Alhaarth, has his first foals on the ground. His wins include the Gr. 1 Ultimatebet.com 2000 Guineas, Gr. 1 Emirates Airline Champion Stakes and Gr. 3 Bet365 Craven Stakes.

Other prominent blacktype progeny include Bandari, multiple Gr. 2 & Gr. 3 winner; Hoh Buzzard, Gr, 2 winner in the States; Dominica, Gr. 2 and Gr. 3 winner; Misterah, Gr. 3 winner; Maharib, Gr. 3 winner; Hallowed Dream, Gr. 3 winner on 2006 and Waterways, Listed winner as a 2yo last year.

Alhaarth’s progeny at the sales made a big impact with yearlings in 2005 making up to €612,000 for two fillies out of Colorsnap and Khamseh and €550,000 for Hattaaleb, a colt out of stakes performer Alluring Park. Yearling prices averaged €110,000. Foals also did well in 2005 making up to €221,000 for a colt, half brother to Gr. 1 winner Rebelline and Gr. 2 winner Quws. A mare in foal to Alhaarth, namely Dalara who is three parts sister to Darshaan and the dam of Gr. 1 Coronation Cup and Gr. 1 Hong Kong Vase winner Daliapour sold for €1 million at Goffs.

2. Marju on a ROYAL Invincible

• Gr. 1 Classic winner Marju Snip... As a sire Intikhab is proving consistent at producing classy progeny both young and old that are gaining remarkable results. This is easy to see from his recent performers below starting with his older crops:

Moon Unit (5yo f) winner of the Gr. 3 Greenlands Stakes last year, came second in the same race this year and was also 2nd in the LR Naas Sprint.

Soviet Song Soviet Song Soviet Song has produced many fine performances over the years but none as exciting as the Gr. 2 Windsor Forest Stakes at Royal Ascot in which she sailed home to win in great style. Four years ago at Ascot she took the Gr. 1 Fillies Mile and thereafter won the Gr. 1 two years running, the Gr. 1 and Gr. 1 Matron Stakes. To date she has won over €1 million in prize-money and is rated 126 Paita at Chantilly (11.07.2006).

Sir Gerard was another flag bearer for Marju at Royal Ascot when he won the Britannia Stakes. Elnadim also has a blacktype winner in New Zealand called Pendragon who is a Gr. 2 and Gr. 3 winner and twice Gr. 1 placed.

3. Listed win for Almutawakel’s ancus martius Shadwell

Ancus Martius (out of White Evening) provided Almutawakel with a Listed winner recently in the LR Pr. Criterium in Italy. He comes from Almutawakel’s 2yo crop which also includes Eddie Jock who has won twice in England. Eddie Jock is Maraahel (2001 by Alzao) gave Sheikh out of a Mujtahid mare Al Euro who is a half-sister to the Gr. 1 Queen Elizabeth II Hamdan Al Maktoum a Royal Ascot win Stakes winner Air Express. Other 2yo winners in Italy include Croce Del Sud and when taking his fourth Group victory in Golfo Degli Angeli. As yearlings last year, this crop sold for an average price of €33,000. the Gr. 2 Hardwicke Stakes.
