GHANAATI shines in G1 Coronation completing Royal Ascot four timer for Shadwell

When the trained homebred, sprang a 20/1 surprise win in the 1000 Guineas at Newmar- ket in May, we knew we had something special. She was making her 2009 seasonal and turf debut in the Classic and won in very fine style. She defeated red hot favourite RAINBOW VIEW into fifth place. She was always prominent and drew away in the final furlong to win the fillies mile by a length and a half. Her rivals, dual Group 3 winner CUIS GHAIRE took second spot from Group 3 Stakes winner SUPER SLEUTH. GHANAATI proved this win was no fluke when she lined up as favourite for a very hot contest in the G1 at Royal Ascot in June. She took on a host of supreme fillies including French Guineas winner ELUSIVE WAVE, Irish Guineas first and second and LAHALEEB, Derrinstown 1000 Guineas Trial winner BALIYANA to name a few. She showed her sheer class and determination as she ran out the clear winner of her second G1 contest to beat the smart French trained filly REGGANE by two lengths, with RAINBOW VIEW staying on for third spot. She put in such a scintillation display of speed that she managed to beat the track record for a mile!

GHANAATI is the seventh foal of SARAYIR, who also has a yearling filly by Forestry and has a filly foal by Hard Spun. She is safely in foal to Medaglia D’Oro, sire of the super star race filly Rachel Alexandra. SARAYIR is a dual Listed winner herself and by Mr. Prospector out of the fantastic HEIGHT OF FASHION. This family is steeped in Champions such as , , , ALWASMI, MUKDDAAM etc.

HABAAYIB GHANAATI OUQBA

The 2009 Ascot Festival proved a very successful one for overall, with four winners in total at the Royal meeting. OUQBA kicked off on the first day of Royal Ascot when he took the G3 a race won for the second year in a row by Shadwell Racing. OUQBA redeemed himself here after a disappointing run in the 2000 Guineas and defeated the useful DEPOSER by half a length. OUQBA may now be aimed at Goodwood for the along with GHANAATI. continued on page 3 HEAVEN for MARJU with VIVA PATACA put himself firmly back into the limelight when winning the G1 Citi Champions & Chater Cup, the final leg of the Citi Triple Crown, for the third time at at the end of May. This makes this outstanding son of MARJU successful in no less than SEVEN GROUP 1 events to date with earnings in excess of €7 million and is only just short of equalling the highest earnings record of €7.5 million in Hong Kong. He battled bravely after encountering traffic problems at the top of the straight and was forced in toward the rail by rival Thumbs Up but still went on to score by a neck. MARJU’s son won this race in 2006 and 2007 and was beaten by half a length in last years renewal. He had already won the second leg of the triple crown in February, and earned his owner Stanley Ho Hung Sun an additional €200,000 bonus for securing the second leg of the series on Sunday. A delighted trainer stated after the race “The fact that he keeps winning these big races has to be recognized”. The plan with Viva Pataca now is to take him to for the Cox Plate in October.

Stakes performers by MARJU in 2009 include ENROLLER who won the G3 Dubai Tennis Championship Stakes at Newbury while REMARQUE won the Premio Le Moss in Rome in April and continued on from that success by winning the G3 Premio Tudini also at the same track in May. INTIKHAB….not WITHOUT A PRAYER!

WITHOUT A PRAYER (colt ex Prayer) landed the Listed Midsummer Stakes at Windsor in June for trainer Ralph Beckett. An impressive performance as it seemed he was outpaced from three furlongs out, but plenty under pressure and managed to find a gap and proved too strong for his rivals. He will step up in class and will be aimed at Group 3 level on his next outing. The Aga Khan’s homebred SHAMAKIYA (filly ex Shamadara), recently dead heated for third in a blanket finish in the G2 Prix Malleret at Saint-Cloud for trainer Alain De Royer Dupre after previously been only beaten by a short neck in the G3 Prix de Royaumont.
