Commenting early this month, Tattersalls Chairman Edmond
Mahony said: “As well as giving buyers an extended period in which to view the horses prior to the sale, Tattersalls will be reintroducing live internet bidding as well as telephone bidding on the day of the sale.
“On a practical level, in line with prevailing Government guidelines, the sale will be restricted to those attending in a professional capacity. Full health protocols will need to be adhered to by all those attending the sale and we will be circulating full details to vendors and purchasers alike. We are looking forward to staging the first live

SALES TALK
EBN: THURSDAY, 25TH JUNE 2020
sale of the 2020 European breeze-up season and to providing as vibrant a market for these high-class two-year-olds as we possibly can.”
With the inevitable delay and disruption to racing and sales this year, many of the horses intended for these sales have either been sold privately or put into training, among them last week’s
Gr.2 Norfolk Stakes hero The Lir Jet (Prince Of Lir), who was
intended for the Ascot Breeze-Up Sale. Comparisons to last year’s results will be pretty pointless, but for information purposes the Craven sale produced aggregate sales of 10,343,000gns, with an average of 121,682gns and a median of 85,000gns. The best-seller was a Kingman filly out of Shyrl, who was offered byTally-Ho Stud and bought by Godolphin for 850,000gns. Named Divine Spirit and trained by Charlie Appleby, she was a winner and Gr.3 runner-up last season. The Ascot sale was headed by a Knockanglass Stables-
consigned Swiss Spirit colt out of Royal Pardon, who was
bought by Jamie Osborne for £110,000. The sale achieved an 86 per cent clearance rate, with an average price of £20,552 and a median of £13,000.
Lot 138 at today's Tattersalls Craven Breeze-Up Sale is this colt by Muhaarar, consigned by Bansha House Stables. He is
out of the dual Listed-placed Venturous Spirit (Arch).

are six lots entered in the £25,000 Tattersalls October Book 1 Bonus, a further 57 who are Plus 10-qualified and five eligible for French owners’premiums.

yesterday’s meeting at Hamilton. The Kevin Ryan-trained Tinochio had finished a close fourth on his debut two weeks ago and was sent off favourite for the 5f novice. A Weatherbys Super Sprint entry, he was bred by John Malone and changed hands for €20,000 at Goffs as a foal and £35,000 at Goffs UK as a yearling.

CARTIER AWARDS
EARLY CONTENDERS STAKE THEIR CARTIER CLAIMS
The initial standings in the Cartier awards for 2020 may have been released a little later than usual, due to the delayed start or resumption of racing, but they include several stars from previous seasons, as well as last week’s Royal Ascot winners and members of the latest Classic generation. The award ceremony itself, due to take place in November, has already had to be cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but Cartier has agreed to continue support for the 2020 accolades, which will still be awarded this year.
His sire Buratino had made a winning debut in March of his juvenile season and already had three victories, including at Listed level, and two second places from five outings when he lined up at Royal Ascot for the Gr.2 Coventry Stakes. He took the lead off Air Force Blue inside the final furlong and kept on well to beat him by two lengths, and later added Gr.1 places in the Phoenix Stakes and Middle Park Stakes to his CV. From the family of Champion Sire Danehill Dancer, he has been standing this season for €5,000 and has a first crop of 88. Three races later, Kraken Power raced clear of his opponents in the 6f maiden to become the first winner for The Last Lion. The Iain Jardine-trained colt, also a graduate of the Goffs November Foal Sale and Goffs UK Premier Yearling Sale, had only been beaten a head on his debut nine days ago. The Last Lion only raced at two but managed ten outings between April and September 2016. He was never out of the first three, picking up four wins, including in the Gr.1 Middle Park Stakes and Gr.3 Sirenia Stakes, and he was placed in three other Pattern contests. A half-brother to two Listed winners, he is out of a Gr.1-placed half-sister to the Gr.1-winning juvenile and Gr.1 Irish 1,000 Guineas winner Tarascon and has a first crop of 45 juveniles.
These are the standings to 21st June:
