Winx must undoubtedly be one of the most photographed horses in history and we have asked some of the photographers who have played their role in the making of a legend to submit their favourite shots of the great mare, many of whom will be taking their final pictures of her at Randwick today.

Sharon Lee Chapman - 2017 Taken at Altona Beach the day after Winx's third Cox Plate. The water was ice cold, but I knew the money shot had to be with the city skyline behind her. As I waded out knee deep, I stepped off the safety of the sand bank and the water was up to my chest (not hard when you're a 5 foot nothing photographer). As soon as she walked past me, seemingly walking on water, I hardly took a breath as I knew I had captured a moment in history and was the only person who was on this side of her. , in my haste to wade out to Winx, I had forgotten that my car keys were in my pocket, an expensive 92 kilometre tow home to recover my spare key! But it was totally worth it.

Vince Caligiuri - 2017 I grew up in Moonee Ponds and when I was a teenager I started learning photography by taking photos at the races at Moonee Valley. If you told me that I would be taking photos one day of the greatest horse of the modern era and she would win four Cox Plates I wouldn’t have believed you, but Winx has given every racing fan that joy. I have a few favourite pictures of Winx but this image of Ben Cadden and strapper Umut Odemislioglu leading Hugh Bowman and Winx out onto the track in 2017 before winning her third Cox Plate would have to be a one of my favourites. The atmosphere was amazing. I was waiting up in the stewards tower as Winx came out and everyone had their phones out filming her, including the opposition strappers and trainers. The fact the entire crowd was there just to see her was such a special moment.

Bronwen Healy - 2017 It is hard to choose a favourite image of a horse like Winx. This would go close though. Taken after the 2017 Cox Plate with a 500mm lens it is full frame without any cropping. Watching Hugh through the lens I knew he was about to throw the helmet to the crowd. I wasn’t sure I would get it in frame as I was running out of room. That night I realised how lucky I was to have seen Winx race at all after being seriously unwell in late 2014 with cancer. During that year’s Spring Carnival I had surgery and a brutal six weeks of radiation. In the middle of treatment my oncologist told me, in exasperation as he implored me to do less, he was trying to ensure I would be alive to photograph the 2015 Cox Plate. That lecture was nearly five years ago. My Winx library wouldn’t exist without the medical skills of Neil Vallance and Andrew Coleman.
