Red Neighbours ...the LFC newsletter for residents of Anfield Issue: April/May 2020 Dear Neighbour, Welcome to our April/May Red Neighbours newsletter, which provides you with the latest news and updates about what’s happening in your local community with Red Neighbours. Due to the coronavirus outbreak, we have extended this edition KEY CONTACT of our newsletter, to provide you with the most up-to-date information from the club and the local community as well as some LFC themed games and activities, which will hopefully bring INFORMATION some light-hearted relief and keep your brains active while staying at home. Some activities will be available online, including Red Neighbours chair based yoga sessions and LFC Foundation physical activity and mindfullness sessions. More information on how you can get involved in these sessions will be available on liverpoolfc.com and foundation.liverpoolfc.com Further information on the postponement of activities, adapted sessions and new initiatives are outlined in the Community News section. To keep the spirits up of our elderly community who may be feeling the effects of social isolation during these uncertain times, we are inviting Community and school our young residents and their families to send us their pictures. The new initiative, which is a part of the club’s community response sessions postponed during the coronavirus outbreak, looks to bring some colour and cheer to our elderly neighbours in Anfield and Northwood Kirkby. The health and safety of our local community, fans, participants, players and staff remains our top priority at this challenging time. Y.N.W.A LFC Supports North Liverpool Foodbank Liverpool FC has made a £40,000 donation to Fans Supporting Foodbanks following the postponement of Premier League fixtures due to the coronavirus outbreak. The appeal, which is administered by the LFC Foundation, will donate 100% of the funds raised directly to the Trussell Trust, which supports a network of foodbanks in Liverpool and Merseyside.

    John Aldridge A Real Irishman By Matthew Brown [1] This article is a case study of an Irishman in Spain. It is not a conventional story - there are no Wild Geese and religion plays no part in the protagonist’s travels. Instead, a Liverpudlian spends two years in San Sebastián, learns very little Spanish, scores a lot of goals, gets spat on, and goes home to play for Tranmere Rovers. It concludes by concurring with Eduardo Galeano’s observation that football, travel and national identity are bound together in surprising ways, that ‘el fútbol y la patria están siempre atados’ (Galeano 1995: 38). Who was John William Aldridge? He was born in Liverpool on 18 September 1958. He played football for Newport County and Oxford United, before moving to Liverpool. He won the League Championship in 1988 at the end of his first full season, though he famously became the first person to miss a penalty kick in the British F.A. Cup final, seeing his kick saved by Wimbledon goalkeeper Dave Beasant. The following season Aldridge was on the pitch during the tragic Hillsbor- ough stadium disaster, in which ninety-six football supporters were killed. This event affected Aldridge profoundly. Within six months Aldridge had left Liverpool and signed for Real Sociedad in the Basque Country. During this same period Aldridge established himself in the Irish national team managed by Jack Charlton. It is not the intention of this article to explore just how Irish Aldridge ‘really was’ in the face of his birth, accent and home. He played plenty of times for the Irish national team during its most successful period.

I watch every home game on dvd and away game • I was born in Liverpool and raised in Hunts Cross as a child • My project is to explain how good my work is and I work very Hard • My project is about the years I have lived in Liverpool Where I have lived in Liverpool • I used to live in 55 Hill foot Avenue with my mum and dad • I spend my childhood at home • I was born in may 3rd 1963 • My dad worked in Standard Triumph • My mum worked in mpte in Hatton Garden • I don’t remember my 1st Birthday 1964 Where I went to school • I went to Otterspool school for boys in 1975.
