Broadcasting and advertising Watching TV remains a favourite pastime, but the consumer today is not restricted to a small number of public broadcasters with some local ad-funded private channels. Streaming content of choice and at the time desired has become the preference for many viewers, reducing the time spent watching the traditional broadcasters. RTL Group is one of the traditional TV broadcasters (actually largest in Europe operating in eight countries) that is managing declining ad revenue from traditional TV (still by far the most important advertising tool) to monetarizing streaming (of which it is already one of Europe’s largest).
