Concert II: Felix Krohn Hall (where the Lahti Conservatory performs) or local church/ concert hall in Salo. Overnight in Lahti or Salo. FINLAND – ESTONIA DAY 5 - THURS, JUNE 27: SALO/LAHTI - HELSINKI – TALLINN Breakfast at the hotel. Check out of the hotel. Board buses and depart for the port in Helsinki. Travel by ferry to Tallinn. Enjoy a sightseeing tour of Tallinn including highlights such as the Upper Town – Toompea (Cathedral Hill) with the impressive Russian Orthodox Church, Dome Cathedral, Lower Town, Gothic Town Hall, Pharmacy, Great Guild Hall, and Blackheads Fraternity Houses. Lunch on your own. Check-in to the hotel. Group dinner and overnight in Tallinn. *Please note this day may be travel and perform. ESTONIA DAY 6 – FRI, JUNE 28 : TALLINN Breakfast at the hotel. ST. KAARLI CHURCH ESTONIA – LATVIA DAY 7 – SATURDAY, JUNE 29: TALLINN – SIGULDA – RIGA Breakfast at the hotel. Check out of the hotel. Depart for Sigulda and visit the Gauja National Park. You will enjoy beautiful vistas of the Gauja River Valley and visit the 13th century Turaida Castle and Sculpture Park. Group lunch en route to Riga. Check-in to hotel. Afternoon rehearsal and sound check. Dinner on own close to venue. Concert IV: GREAT GUILD HALL Overnight Riga. GREAT GUILD HALL – HOME TO THE LATVIAN NATIONAL SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA GREAT GUILD HALL LATVIA AND RETURN TO FINLAND DAY 8 – SUNDAY, JUNE 30: RIGA - HELSINKI Breakfast at the hotel. Enjoy a tour of Riga with high highlights such as the City Canal Parks, Art Nouveau Buildings, Opera House, Old Riga, Dome Cathedral, Church of St. Peter, old Guild Houses, Swedish Gate, St. Jacob’s Church, Parliament House, and Old Riga Castle. Henrik Möller Acoustical measurements were made in twenty churches in the Helsinki area, and their acoustical properties were compared to each other. The churches varied in size from small village churches to large cathedrals, were built between the 1470’s and 2005, and were built of stone, tile or wood. The churches were measured following the ISO 3382 standard. The results showed no clear distinctions between churches of different ages. The average reverberation time was longer than what is recommended for concert halls, with a small correlation to the volume of the church. The results of the modern churches were varying for all measured parameters, with no apparent correlation to the materials, sizes or ages of the churches. The average STI of 0.5 for all measured churches indicates that sound systems are needed in churches for the speech intelligibility to improve in the otherwise reverberant space.
