DR243 Line Tracker Instructions

How it works

The technology behind this line tracker belongs to 2 sensors located on the bottom of Dalek. Each sensor has a pair of infrared LEDs and an infrared light sensor that controls the corresponding motor. The infrared LED generates the signal to the paper and the receiver will obtain the reflected signal to differen- tiate the line from the surrounding area. Once the detects the line, it will drive the wheels to run. So, the reflection of the light is key to drive the wheels!

Drawing a line for the Dalek to follow

A) Line color It must be BLACK otherwise the reflected infrared signal will not be received by the sensor and the corre- sponding motor won't drive. B) Line width The line width should be narrower than the distance between the 2 sensors. However, we cannot make the line too thin. Please search and view the pdf “DR243 – Guide Paths” on http://www.zeonltd.co.uk/filesearch-zeon.php for examples on the width of the lines that need to be drawn.

First use of the Dalek Line Tracker

Running on Straight line To start, draw a long straight line with BLACK marker on WHITE paper. The line must be 0.8 ~ 1 cm wide. Turn on the power switch, place the Dalek on the middle of line and it will run along the line immediately. DR243 Dalek Line Tracker Instructions

Draw a Parking Line Draw a thicker line perpendicular to the straight Line like a “T” shape. The Dalek will stop in front of the parking line.

Run on a Circle Draw a Ø18cm circle, line width 0.8 ~ 1 cm. The Dalek will run continuously along the circle. You can download the above Learning Template at follow link: http://www.zeonltd.co.uk/filesearch-zeon.php and search for “DR243 – Guide Paths”

Create your own fantastic Track Now, you are ready to create different paths for the Dalek to run! However, make sure the line is 0.8 ~ 1 cm and the curve must not have too sharp a turn; it's better to have no less than a 9cm radius.

ATTENTION: The wheels may not turn because the sensors do not receive a signal. However, the unit still con- sumes battery power. Switch off the Dalek after use. DO NOT STARE IN TO THE INFRARED LED AT SHORT RANGE

Troubleshooting

Q) The Dalek didn’t follow the track properly and it's not working A1) The accuracy of the infrared source can be affected in a bright environment I.e. in sunlight or a brightly lit room. It is recommended to use this product out of sunlight and spot lights. A2) Make sure the battery is installed with correct polarity. Replace the battery if necessary. A3) The radius of the line may be too small or the turning path has a sharp angle. A larger and smoother radius is recommended for the Dalek to follow. Try to modify your route with correction fluid if necessary. A4) Make sure the ground is white and the line is solid black color, the line width needs to be between 0.8 ~ 1 cm.

Battery Information • We recommend the battery replacement is done under adult supervision. • Non-rechargeable batteries are not to be recharged; • Rechargeable batteries are only to be charged under adult supervision; • Rechargeable batteries are to be removed from the product before being charged; • Batteries must be inserted with the correct polarity; • Exhausted batteries are to be removed from the product; • The supply terminals are not to be short-circuited; • Different types of batteries or new and used batteries are not to be mixed; • Only batteries of the same or equivalent type as recommended are to be used. • If the unit is not to be used for a prolonged period, such as a month of longer, remove the batteries to prevent possible leakage. • To save power, turn off if not in use.

Battery replacement This product require 2 x 1.5V, AAA size batteries. (NOT Supplied) 1) Unscrew and remove the battery cover 2) Remove the old batteries and insert new battteries (2 x AAA) into the battery compartment as indicated by the polarites shown in the above sketch. 3) Replace the battery cover and secure it with the screw.
