Quist started playing the guitar at age 6 – moving to London in his teens to study at the UK version of Musicians Institute (G.I.T), where he was awarded the title “Outstanding Guitarist of the Year” - after which he landed a scholarship to study at the world-renowned Royal Academy of Music. At the Academy, Quist studied under John Ashton Thomas (X-men, Ice Age, Kung Fu Panda, Night at the Museum), amongst others. Having his recording debut for Sony Music Denmark whilst still a student, Quist has since had more than 40 of his tracks synced and featured on TV, radio, films and computer games. He keeps a steady output of new music, with increasing emphasis on his love of music for moving pictures. With his current role as lead guitarist for UK rock legend Bryan Ferry, over 32 million views on his own youtube channel QuistJam, as well as regular features in Guitar Techniques Magazine and two international (guitar) book releases behind him, Quist is already well-known in the guitar world…. But let’s be clear – Quist is on a mission to reach far beyond the world of guitarists with his music! He remains an active session guitarist, having appeared across the world at major festivals like Coachella and Glastonbury, venues like Royal Albert Hall and Abbey Road, on TV shows like Jools Holland, BBC Breakfast and Le Grand Journal (in France) - working for labels like BMG, Decca, Polydor, Warner, Sony, Mercury, Universal, Ninja Tunes and Brownswood.     Rock and Roll has Tender Moments too... ! Photographs by Chalkie Davies 1973-1988 ! For as long as I can remember people have suggested that I write a book, citing both my exploits in Rock and Roll from 1973-1988 and my story telling abilities. After all, with my position as staff photographer on the NME and later The Face and Arena, I collected pop stars like others collected stamps, I was not happy until I had photographed everyone who interested me. However, given that the access I had to my friends and clients was often unlimited and 24/7 I did not feel it was fair to them that I should write it all down. I refused all offers. Then in 2010 I was approached by the National Museum of Wales, they wanted to put on a retrospective of my work, this gave me a special opportunity. In 1988 I gave up Rock and Roll, I no longer enjoyed the music and, quite simply, too many of my friends had died, I feared I might be next. So I put all of my negatives into storage at a friends Studio and decided that maybe 25 years later the images you see here might be of some cultural significance, that they might be seen as more than just pictures of Rock Stars, Pop Bands and Punks. That they even might be worthy of a Museum. So when the Museum approached me three years ago with the idea of a large six month Retrospective in 2015 I agreed, and thought of doing the usual thing and making a Catalogue.

    MAGNUS FIENNES COMPOSER Magnus Fiennes is a British composer, record producer, songwriter and creator of music-driven entertainment. He has written music for over a hundred hours of film, television and videogames and has worked with recording artists as diverse as Shakira, Tom Jones, Neneh Cherry, Massive Attack, Morcheeba, Marriane Faithfull, Bryan Ferry and Pulp. Magnus’s film scores include Onegin (1999), Chromophobia, (2005), Donkeys (2007), The Pervert’s Guide To Ideology (2011) and several animated features such as Casper’s Scare School (2006) and Here Comes Peter Cottontail (2005). He has written and produced additional music for Johnny English (2003), Five Seconds To Spare (2000), The Next Best Thing (2000) and Addicted To Love (1997).
