39 2020-2021 The Interclub and Fellowship Initiative: Sharing Our Knowledge

Historically, Kiwanis interclub fellowship has provided a way for clubs to learn from each other. Now, during the COVID-19 pandemic, your club can conduct interclub visits without leaving the comfort of home. Your “golden ticket” is video conferencing software. The most popular one around is the Zoom app, which has become familiar to Kiwanis clubs around Ohio.

Definition of Interclub, following the format established by the Ohio Kiwanis District: Clubs with 20 members or less need 2 members to attend a meeting to qualify for credit* Clubs with 30 members or less need 3 members to attend for credit Clubs with 40 members or more need 4 members to attend for credit

How this works: If another club is having success with a unique way of running a pancake breakfast or other fundraiser, reach out to them and visit their club through Zoom to learn details. If another club is having success with an unusual service project, attend their club meeting and find out how it’s done. The same applies when your club has valuable information or a special speaker. By using zoom, you can visit each other and gain knowledge and points for your club. Your club secretary will maintain your count and report them to me ([email protected]).

Point Pride: Here is how interclub credit works. One point for each:

“Round Robin” visit every club in your division Visit one division council meeting Attend a mid-year conference Attend a district conference Attend an international conference Visit a club meeting outside your division Visit your club’s SLP twice Visit a club outside your district

Patch Pride: In addition to gaining knowledge for your club, you’ll earn recognition: Gold is 8 points; Silver is 6 points; Blue is 4 points; Certificates are 2 points.

Summary: We live in a borderless world now thanks to video conferencing software like Zoom. Clubs no longer have to travel to other clubs for fellowship. Distance is no barrier. Running your club has been a challenge since the pandemic began – but you are not alone. We are all living thorough this. Teleconferencing presents new possibilities. Literally, the sky is the limit! “It’s a Small World After All” can become your new earworm courtesy of Disney! * a meeting is an engagement, conference or service project K-Kids T-Shirt Design Contest

Direcons: Create a t-shirt design for K-Kids. Include “K-Kids” in your design. Write your name and school at the boom of the page. Be mindful that simple t-shirt designs are oen easier to create. Feel free to add ideas of words or sayings to the shirt. Winners will receive awards and prizes.

Deadline September 30, 2021.

To Submit: Email a picture of your design to [email protected]

K-Kids Video Contest

Direcons: Create a short video about K-Kids or your K-Kids Club. Menon or include “K-Kids” and “Kiwanis” (and/or the K-Kids and Kiwanis Logo) in your video and give credit to your school and those involved in making and appearing in the video. Be mindful that a clear audio is important with lile or no background noise. Lighng is also important. Too lile light (or filming towards the sun) and the subjects will be shaded. Be mindful that it is helpful to outline or plan your video and purpose. You can add props, costumes, and interesng backdrops. Your video can be educaonal. Speak clearly and slowly. Subjects should try to smile and look at the camera, like the tv news reporters. Fun and interesng videos are more appealing to watch. Short videos are easier to e-mail, post and watch. Winners will receive awards, prizes and be shared with Ohio District Kiwanis.

Important: Your teacher or advisor must have the video permission from the parents/guardians of everyone <18 years old who is in the video. This will be verified of the winners.

Deadline September 30, 2021.

To Submit: Email a picture of your design to [email protected]

-Good afternoon, my name is ______calling on behalf of the Kiwanis Club of ______, we have teams of members who are gathering insight into community needs.

Have you heard of Kiwanis?

If yes, how?

If no…… We are a worldwide non-profit service organization that exists in communities to implement ways to serve youth and children. We can do that best by connecting with community members to find out how best we can serve in our area. We would love a few minutes of your time to share some information and gain insight of what you have observed to be a vital need in our community.

What time would work best for you?

If they say they don’t understand how come we want to talk to them … respond back, - we gain the best insight into community needs by talking with the people who are supported by and provide services to all segments of the community. We support programs, charities, implement services programs for schools and do what we can to be a positive addition by providing another layer of support.

Example opening conversation for School Superintendent: There is no other person more important to talk with than the number one care take our or town’s children. You will be a great resource on how our club can support the needs of the students.

**** This is meant to be a personal conversation, gain insight, ask whom else we should contact, let them provide details….****

Be sure to take along a membership brochure, a listing of some of your club activities and information about attending an upcoming meeting, event or fundraiser.
