P A G E 2 Principal’s Ponderings As we prepare for the start of another school year, I would like to welcome everyone back to Caddo Magnet High School including our newest Mustangs – the Class of 2024. We welcome Katie Cole, Morgan Farmer, Charris Glass, Karin Goebel, Stephen Goebel, LaKiesha Graham, Eliot Haas, and Mary Lawson to our amazing faculty. In a couple of weeks, we will have a new freshman/sophomore counselor. Thank you to Mrs. Lanclos, Mrs. Miles, and Mrs. Parnell for working with our 9th & 10th grade families! While they have done an excellent job, we are looking forward to having a dedicated counselor in this role. Mustangs continue to make us proud even during the summer. Sloan Hall and Alex Lowe both placed in the George Rodrigue Art Contest! Sophia Nicolosi was selected as the Distinguished Young Woman of Louisiana and will represent our state in the national contest! Diya Desai, Sarah Johnson, and Abigail Nickelson all joined the CMHS Perfect ACT Club! That makes fourteen perfect ACT scores of 36 since the 2015-16 school year. Of course this year will have challenges like no other. First and foremost, we are dedicated to providing a healthy and safe environment to our students, staff, and faculty. We will follow the guidelines and protocols that have been put in place by Dr. Goree and his staff. Second, we are as committed as always to achieve Excellence in Education as evidenced by our teachers working, training, and preparing for weeks now during their “time off”. The Caddo Magnet faculty has shown tremendous growth since March in the use of technology and teaching in a virtual environment. Third, we will continue to offer as many opportunities to your student as possible. With the restrictions that we find ourselves under, there are some new policies that I really need everyone to follow. Students cannot arrive on campus before 8:00. While we were able to accommodate that in the past, it is not possible at this time. Once students arrive on campus, they are to go directly to their first period classroom. We cannot operate with stu- dents gathering together in common areas before class. Parents will not be able to deliver lunches during the day. While we have never encouraged this due to the logistical problems it can create, we have never turned anyone away. But this year, visitors will be limited until we come out of phase III. Please keep in mind, however, that all students are able to eat for free from the cafeteria, both breakfast and lunch. Meals will be in grab and go bags and consumed in a small group setting in the classroom. While we will still have after-school tutoring, extracurriculars, athletic practices, etc., students not involved in any official school activity need to leave the campus in a timely manner as soon as school is over for the day at 3:55. Students may not congregate in the front and wait for hours after school to be picked up. Please make sure your child has a mask to wear each day. We will have some disposable versions for those that forget, but this cannot become a habitual situation with the same stu- dent. Our supplies are limited. While we have chromebooks to issue to students, if possible, we encourage your child to use their own device. We will not be sharing chromebooks from a cart each period as in the past. Students on the hybrid schedule will carry the device with them from class to class. We are prepared to be flexible and make changes as needed. We are all dedicated to mak- ing this work. While there are many changes, one thing that has not changed is our commit- ment to your family! I promise we will strive to do our best every day, will learn from our mis- takes, and will continue to help ALL of our students reach their full potential! Thank you for continuing to believe in us! Michael Ilgenfritz BACK - TO- SCHOOL EDITI ON BACK - TO- SCHOOL EDITI ON P A G E 3 Visitor Policy With the current COVID restrictions, outside visitors to campus will be limited. Parents will be allowed to be on campus for things such as check-outs and parent meetings (if not done virtually). Parent delivery of lunch will not be allowed until we leave phase III. All visitors must have a mask in order to enter the school grounds. We do have a limited supply of masks for those in need. 8/24 & 8/25 Regular Bell Schedule Schedule 8:00 Students may be on campus / report 8:00 Students may be on campus / report to 1st to 1st period classroom period classroom 8:00-8:30 Temp checks / Announcements 8:00-8:30 Temp checks 8:30 1st period tardy bell 8:30 1st period tardy bell 8:20-9:25 1st Period (55 minutes) 8:20-10:30 1st Period Info Talk / chromebook check out / Canvas Tutorial 9:30-10:25 2nd Period (55 minutes) 10:35-11:00 2nd Period (25 minutes) 10:35-11:25 3rd Period (25 minutes) 11:05-11:25 3rd Period (25 minutes) 11:30-12:55 4th Period (55 minutes of class time/30 minutes of 11:30-12:55 4th Period (55 minutes of class lunch time) time/30 minutes of lunch time) 11:25-11:55 1st lunch shift (30 minutes) 11:25-11:55 1st lunch shift (30 minutes) st 12:00 1st lunch tardy bell 12:00 1 lunch tardy bell 12:25-12:55 2nd lunch shift (30 minutes) 12:25-12:55 2nd lunch shift (30 minutes) th 1:00-1:55 5th Period (55 minutes) 1:00-1:55 5 Period (55 minutes) 2:00-2:55 6th Period (55 minutes) 2:00-2:55 6th Period (55 minutes) th 3:00-3:55 7th Period (55 minutes) 3:00-3:55 7 Period (55 minutes) END OF SCHOOL DAY END OF SCHOOL DAY BACK - TO- SCHOOL EDITI ON P A G E 4 First Day of School Virtual Friday Schedule Virtual students should report to campus either on Thursday, August 20th, between the hours of 8:30-9:20 1st Period (50 minutes) 2:15-3:30, or on Friday, August 21st, between the hours of 8:30-9:45.
