2018 Schloss Johannisberger Riesling Spätlese Grünlack wins "Best of Show“
At the end of August, the time had come again: 170 wine experts from 45 countries came together for the big MUNDUS VINI summer tasting 2019 and evaluated wine submissions from all over the world. A total of 14 Great Gold, 212 Gold and 928 Silver Medals were awarded by the expert jury. The 2018 Schloss Johannisberger Riesling Spätlese Grünlack was able to stand out from the competition, winning the "Best of Show Riesling off-dry Germany" award.
Schloss Johannisberger Riesling Spätlese Grünlack is a wine made from hand-picked grapes that matured in the very hot summer of 2018. Due to the continuing warmth, the 2018 harvest began almost four weeks earlier than in previous years and achieved above-average yields of very good quality. The wine presents attractive notes of white stone fruit, pineapple and passion fruit, which jointly create an intensive, juicy and long-lasting impression.

In 1775, the ‘Spätlese’ was discovered here as a new wine style by chance, when the messenger who had to obtain the harvest permit from the German city Fulda was two weeks late.
