In Atty. Virgilio del Rosario 2011, the Davao City Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCCI) has actively spear-headed both a Corp. I had the honour and pleasure to represent CanCham at both events with CanCham’s presence recognized and James Dantow appreciated. Tammy Lipana Davao City’s strategic plan for increasing investment and trade includes a number of areas that closely match the focus of CanCham, notably agri-business, ICT/BPO, education and training, and regional Ernest Loignon financial services. It is also striving to expand as a regional hub for support of extractive industries, air Flora Naces-Mateo transport and sea transport as well as tourism. The focus of Davao on these areas will provide a natural core for the building up Canada-Philippines business relationships based in Davao as has been the case Nick Oosterveen in Cebu and I look forward to building up a Davao-based membership group in 2012. With this in mind, CanCham has signed a Memorandum of Cooperation with the DCCCI that includes substantive provisions for cooperation, the main three being: PRINCIPAL OBJECTIVES • To exchange information and perspectives on: BOARD OF GOVERNORS »» Business and economic conditions Davao City and in Canada; Amb. Christopher Thornley • To represent the collective business interests of the membership »» Business opportunities for international trade, foreign investment, transfer of technology and Jack Gaisano • To increase the business profile and Canadian connection of the skills, and mobility of human resources; »» Ways and means to enhance international trade, foreign investment, transfer of technology and Robert Lee members skills, and mobility of human resources; and • To advocate improvements in the Philippines business environment Roger Mandriak » to benefit members » Challenges and issues of common interest to the business communities represented by the two Richard Mills chambers; • To assist Canadian business get established in the Philippines • To keep relevant authorities informed of the cooperation and to jointly advocate the development Julian H. 10 October — December 2011 October — December 2011 11 CanCham Executive Management Series 2011

“I learned that the secret of good relationship is au- thentic communication!” “It was very motivational! It made me realize my potential!” “I learned that there is a fine line between ‘Manager’ and ‘Leader’…And to start leveling up from a tech- nician role to a manager, then eventually a leader! NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE!”

These are just a few of the take-away insights gained by participants of the 2011 Cancham Executive Management Se- ries. Sponsored and organized by the Canadian Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines in partnership with Integrative Learning (IL) International, the Executive Management Series covered themes such as Authentic Communication, Raising the Bar: Empower the Manager- Leader in YOU and Creat- ing the Game You Love: Leveraging Your 3 Business Roles. As part of CanCham’s continuing goal of providing a forum for ideas and new business opportunities to its member organizations and companies, the series was facilitated by Mr. Jerry Perez de Tagle, Founder and President of IL International. All sessions were held at the New World Hotel in Makati City and attended by an interesting mix of participants from various sectors such as IT, legal, consultancy, security, BPO, telecommunications, and freight services. All were eager to discover new “ways of working” & achieving their goals. IL International presented a unique framework for achieving high impact productivity, while at the same time trans- forming the heart of the organization—its Human Resource! The framework combines three competencies: Personal Mastery, Breakthrough Project Management, and Transformational Coaching, and works to create a shift in individuals’ mindsets, empowering them to achieve breakthrough results and unprecedented levels of productivity. The sessions introduced transformational leadership with outstanding impact on the organization’s bottom line & ROI. One example includes one of the business units of a major Multinational Food Company moving from a recur- ring -5% growth in the market to a miraculous +34% market growth increase within 8 months! This breakthrough performance gave their Philippine division the distinguished Global Award for the Best Turnaround, besting 300 other companies worldwide. Other success stories included a mul- tinational company which experienced a 200% increase from US$45M to US$100M+ in 18 months, and another company which achieved US$5.9 million in stretch goals. As a result of the successful collaboration, IL and CanCham will partner again to provide an Executive Management Series for 2012. CEOs, VPs and managers can look forward to breakthrough sessions which will provide in-depth discussion on how Transformational Organization Development (OD) can be chan- neled to produce unparalleled increase in pro- ductivity and bottom-line results. Integrative Learning International, Inc. is an international training and consulting firm with 25 years of cutting edge and trans- formational experience in HR/OD consult- ing and coaching. Through its wide range of programs, IL helps its clients worldwide to adapt to & transform the environment, shift paradigms, and create radical breakthroughs in personal and team productivity, such that the organization will never be the same again. The success of IL’s development programs is rooted in the Rapid Learning Methodology using multiple intelligences. The ability to immediately use newly acquired knowledge to produce breakthrough result. This is the “edge” which IL guarantees its clients.
