Reviews Keith Loria, on theatermania.com, called the show “a tender glimpse into the Hineses’ rise to fame and a touching tribute to a brother.” Benjamin Tomchik wrote in Broadway World, that the show “seems determined not only to love the audience, but to entertain them, and it succeeds at doing just that! While Tappin' Thru Life does have some flaws, it's hard to find anyone who isn't won over by Hines showmanship, humor, timing and above all else, talent.” In The Washington Post, Nelson Pressley wrote, “’Tappin’ is basically a breezy, personable concert. The show doesn’t flinch from hard-core nostalgia; the heart-on-his-sleeve Hines is too sentimental for that. It’s frankly schmaltzy, and it’s barely written — it zips through selected moments of Hines’s life, creating a mood more than telling a story. it’s a pleasure to be in the company of a shameless, ebullient vaudeville heart.” Maurice Hines Is .

  • John Lennon – Człowiek I Artysta Niespełniony?
Tom 12/2020, ss. 43-72 ISSN 0860-5637 e-ISSN 2657-7704 DOI: 10.19251/rtnp/2020.12(3) www.rtnp.mazowiecka.edu.pl Andrzej Dorobek Mazowiecka Uczelnia Publiczna w Płocku ORCID: 0000-0002-5102-5182 JOHN LENNON – CZŁOWIEK I ARTYSTA NIESPEŁNIONY? JOHN LENNON: A MAN AND ARTIST UNFULFIILLED? Słowa kluczowe: kompleks, trauma, dominacja, „krzyk pierwotny”, gwiaz- dorstwo, artyzm, niespełnienie Summary: In this essay, the author attempts at a synthetic insight into the biography of John Lennon, both as a confused genius of popular music and a victim of the childhood complex of motherly neglect: later transformed into the one of female domination and transferred onto Yoko Ono, his second wife and avant-garde “muse.” Consequently, their marriage, largely idealized by media, is shown here in the context of Lennon’s relations with other women (mainly his mother and aunt Mimi), his contradictory psychological traits and artistic/ ideological evolution that resulted in being torn between pop superstardom, avant-garde artistry and, in last five years, virtual creative impotence.

  • Tonight’S Documentary About John’S Late Father, Arthur Rubinstein, Airing in PBS’ "American Masters” Series
TV SPOTS Remembering Rubinstein For some children, getting to know their father — if it happens at all — comes through honest conversation. For actor John Rubinstein, it came through watching his late father play the piano, which he says provided "an absolutely pure knowledge of a person’s soul.” It’s one of the many insights in tonight’s documentary about John’s late father, Arthur Rubinstein, airing in PBS’ "American Masters” series. Much of "Rubinstein Remembers” (WNET / 13 at 9; WLIW121 Friday at 9) spins off a visit made by the Rubinstein family earlier this year to Lodz, Poland, which was Arthur’s birthplace. With the aid of John’s narration, old photos and film clips take viewers through Arthur’s early years as John Rubinstein a musical prodigy, his Paris playboy days where his buddies were Picasso and Cocteau, his points of despair, and his years of world preeminence. There’s also footage of Arthur talking in new and old clips, and illustrating his remarks on the keyboard. Next month, "American Masters” will repeat the three "Unknown Chaplin” programs, an acclaimed analysis of Charlie Chaplin’s career that included previously unseen footage of the silent-film comedian. The shows hagin Aug. 3. Other August programs will spotligm George Gershwin and Maurice SanAtk Tonight 9:00 PM ® CD AMERICAN MASTERS. “Ru binstein Remembered: A 100th Anniversary Tri bute." • Here Are a Number of Recognizable Singers Who Are Noted As Prominent Contributors to the Songbook Genre
Music Take- Home Packet Inside About the Songbook Song Facts & Lyrics Music & Movement Additional Viewing YouTube playlist https://bit.ly/AllegraSongbookSongs This packet was created by Board-Certified Music Therapist, Allegra Hein (MT-BC) who consults with the Perfect Harmony program. About the Songbook The “Great American Songbook” is the canon of the most important and influential American popular songs and jazz standards from the early 20th century that have stood the test of time in their life and legacy. Often referred to as "American Standards", the songs published during the Golden Age of this genre include those popular and enduring tunes from the 1920s to the 1950s that were created for Broadway theatre, musical theatre, and Hollywood musical film. The times in which much of this music was written were tumultuous ones for a rapidly growing and changing America. The music of the Great American Songbook offered hope of better days during the Great Depression, built morale during two world wars, helped build social bridges within our culture, and whistled beside us during unprecedented economic growth. About the Songbook We defended our country, raised families, and built a nation while singing these songs. There are a number of recognizable singers who are noted as prominent contributors to the Songbook genre. Ella Fitzgerald, Fred Astaire, Rosemary Clooney, Nat King Cole, Sammy Davis Jr., Judy Garland, Billie Holiday, Lena Horne, Al Jolson, Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, Mel Tormé, Margaret Whiting, and Andy Williams are widely recognized for their performances and recordings which defined the genre. This is by no means an exhaustive list; there are countless others who are widely recognized for their performances of music from the Great American Songbook.
